BRITT, JOHN L., age 66, of Morristown, passed away at his home, January
26, 1999. He was a member of Lowland Baptist Church. He was a Marine
veteran of the Korean War. Preceded in death by his mother, Lexie Britt;
father, Ralph Britt; brother, Fred Britt and sister, Ruby Cantwell.
Survivors: wife of 44 years, Grace L. Britt; children, Debra Miller,
John M. Britt, Rhonda Britt, Melissa Dowless and Crystal Britt;
sons-in-law, Jerry Miller and Graham Dowless; daughter-in-law, Pam
Britt; grandchildren, Amanda and Steve Waites, Alicia Miller, Mark Britt

CRAWFORD, THERESA M., age 88, of Morristown, passed away Wednesday,
January 27, 1999 at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare Center. She was a
member of Jehovah’s Witness. Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law,
Barbara and Tony Watson of Morristown; son, Ronald Watson of Japan;
granddaughters, Shanna Crawford of Morristown, Angela Davis and fiancee
Charles Stubblefield of Jefferson City; grandsons, Anthony Watson of
Morristown, and James Burton; several great-grandchildren; dear friends,
Lora and Mark Williams of Morristown, Mark and Mitzi Callis of

DEBORD, KENNETH H., Highway 31, Mooresburg, died Monday, January 25,
1999 at his residence. At the time of his death Mr. DeBord was retired,
and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Mooresburg. Mr. DeBord was
preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Hugh and Pearl Richardson
DeBord; one infant sister and two infant brothers. Survivors include one
son, Brant DeBord of Milwaukee, WI.; three sisters, Mrs. George (Norma
Lochiel) Livesay of Kingsport, Mrs. Gordon (Pauline) Hopson of
Greeneville and Mrs. Ronald (Lillie) Dickensen of Kingsport; five
brothers, Elmer DeBord, Clyde DeBord and Larry DeBord, all of Kingsport,
Dwight DeBord of Church Hill and Hugh Kyle DeBord of Morristown; a
number of nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00
p.m. Friday, January 29, 1999 at the Broome Funeral Home. Funeral

EVANS, PAUL J., 84, Bean Station, TN., passed away on January 26, 1999
at Morristown-Hamblen Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 60 years,
Marie Kaylor Evans. He was retired from U.S. Steel Corp. of West
Virginia and Kentucky divisions as chief chemist, having been in their
employ for 36 years. He attended Central United Methodist Church, Bean
Station, TN., was a member of Morristown-Hamblen Cancer Support Group
and VBI Vision Support Group. Survivors in addition to his wife; sons,
Eric of Pilot, Va., Richard and wife, Ginger of Bluefield, W. Va., Nolan
of Fort Worth, TX., and daughter-in-law, Mary Ann of Bedford, TX.; one
grandson; three granddaughters and one great-granddaughter; two
brothers, Norman E. Evans of Bristol, TN., and Howard B. Evans of
Golden, Co. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.J.
Evans of Morristown, TN.; and a sister Edith Evans Jone of Dayton, Ohio.

HAGANS, MATTIE ELEANOR HOPKINS LORINO, age 90, passed away early
Wednesday morning, January 27, 1999, at her home on 314 East Second
North Street, Morristown. Mrs. Hagans was born on October 17, 1908, in
Hopkins, North Carolina to George Alexander Hopkins and Frances Maranda
Colvard Hopkins, the fifth of ten children. She is preceded in death by
husband, Frank Norman Lorino. He and Mattie were married in August 1929
and settled in Morristown. Together they opened the Franklin Cafe, the
Tennessean and the Little Dutch Restaurant. Mr. Lorino passed away on
January 28, 1970. On November 16, 1975 Mattie married Mr. Frank Maywood
Hayes Hagans, formerly of Ohio. Mr. Hagans passed away January 11, 1997.
Mrs. Hagans was a member of the First Baptist Church, Morristown, where
she first became a member in 1930. She was a member of the Eastern Star
for over fifty-five years, a member Emeritus of the Pilot Club and a
member of the Methodist Hill Garden Club. Mrs. Hagans leaves her
children, Mrs. Rita Lorino Smith of Morristown, Mrs. Deloris Lorino
Smith and husband, Robert of Knoxville, Mr. William John Lorino and his
wife Bette B. of Arlington, Virginia, and Mrs. Frankie Lorino Moyers and
her husband, Charles of Morristown. In addition Mrs. Hagans leaves
eleven adoring grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sisters,
Mrs. Viola Reece of Mountain City, Mrs. Jean Hart of Bristol; and
brother, Mr. George Hopkins of Wyoming, Pennsylvania; several nieces and
nephews; and devoted caregivers, Gereldine Rice and Mary Thomas. Stetzer
Funeral Home is in charge. The family will receive friends Friday
evening, January 29 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. The funeral services will
follow the visitation. Rev. Randy Davis will be officiating. Graveside
services will be Saturday morning, January 30, at 11:00 a.m. at Jarnagin

POTTER, HAZEL MADELINE, age 71, of Greeneville, died Wednesday night at
Laughlin Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. She was known as a
loving wife, mother and grandmother. A well known volunteer with the
AMVETS Post 7 in Morristown serving as Hospital Chairman to Mountain
Home Veteran’s Hospital and Green Valley, having received Volunteer of
the Year Award for two years. Survivors include husband of 52 years,
Junior E. Potter; son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Mary Lou Potter of
Greeneville; daughter and son-in-law, Jimmie and Kenny Paxton of
Greeneville; daughter-in-law, Mary Lynne Potter of Greeneville;
brothers, Charles (Chuck) Dyer and wife Janet of Greeneville, William
(Bill) Dyer and wife Mylene of Greeneville; sister, Lucille Seals and
husband Doyle of Talbott, TN.; sister-in-law, Flora Mae Gregg of
Mosheim; brother-in-law, J.B. Wells of Mosheim; four granddaughters,
Angie and Libby Potter of Greeneville, Nicole Norton of Greeneville,

TOLLIVER, DOIL WILLIAM, age 52, of Matthews Loop, Mohawk, died
unexpectedly Wednesday evening (1/27/99) at his home. He was retired
from Berkline Corporation. Survivors include his wife: Boby Jo Tolliver;
one son, Robert Tolliver of Bean Station; one daughter, Kellie Tolliver
of Middlesboro, Ky.; three step-daughters, Brenda Williams and Linda
Lawson both of Mohawk and Barbara Dyer of Talbott; one brother and two
sisters-in-law, Roy and Ellen Tolliver and Cookie Tolliver, all of
Mohawk; six step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was
the son of the late Clarence and Rosie Tolliver and was preceded in
death by one brother, Kenneth Earl Tolliver; three half-brothers,
Maynard Tolliver, Charles Marshall, and Hal Marshall; and a half-sister,
Imogean Secrist. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday
(1/30/99) from St. Joseph Chapel Free Will Baptist Church with interment

WHITEHEAD, LEOLA, age 92, formerly of Middletown, Ohio, passed away at
her home in Morristown, January 26, 1999. She was a member of Faith
United Methodist Church. Survivors: son, Fred Whitehead of Morristown,
Jack Whitehead; daughters, Linda Lucaello, Zidne Martin; seven
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Services will be at

YOUNT, RALPH ELLIS, age 69, of Sneedville, went to be with the Lord on
Wednesday, January 27, 1999 at the Baptist Hospital in Knoxville
following a long battle with heart disease. He was a member of Yellow
Branch Baptist Church. He was a Mason and Shriner. He was preceded in
death by his parents, Brownlow and Ethel Yount; brother, Clifton Yount.
Survivors: wife, Ruth Yount of Sneedville; children, Gary Yount and son
Jamie of Sneedville, Janet Seal of Sneedville, Larry Yount of
Sneedville; grandchildren, Shara Seal, Gavin Seal, and Caitlin Yount;
