LAUGHLIN, Frank
age 78, died Nov. 22, 2004, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. To all who came and went thru his hospital doors, we give great praise for their caring, sharing and comforting words. Laughlin was preceded in death by his loving wife Johnnie Laughlin; parents, Jake and Pansy Laughlin; brothers Bob, Carl and Melvin Laughlin; and sisters Louise Brown, Mary Brown, Francis Wolfe and Nell Slagle. Laughlin is survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth Branson, Grace and Harvey Booher, Ruby and Bill Beets and Gin and David Gregg. He will be missed by his loving dog Fritz, family, nieces, nephews, relatives and his many, many friends. Family and friends met at the main entrance to Greenwood Cemetery Friday for a graveside service with the Rev. Harvey Booher and the Rev. David Gregg officiating. HEAGERTY, Pat Jr.
age 62, of Knoxville, died Tuesday morning, Nov. 23, 2004, at Brakebill Nursing Home. A native of Knoxville, he was the son of the late Patrick James Heagerty Sr. and Anne Regina Sharpe Heagerty. Heagerty was a charter member of the Ivy St. Rockbusters, a ring announcer for numerous Amateur Athletic Union and Golden Gloves Boxing matches, and a lifelong member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. He had retired from All American Shows and was a lifetime member of the American Showmens Association. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Sara Heagerty, Chris and Kim Heagerty of Knoxville; grandchildren, Mary Kate, Keeley and Sloane; and his brother, Greg Heagerty of Atlanta. Family and friends met at Calvary Cemetery Friday for a graveside service with the Rev. Xavier Mankel officiating. GUINN, Oletha Susan (Mimi)
of West Knoxville, passed away Nov. 17, 2004. She was born June 22, 1924, in Greeneville. She has gone home to rejoin the loved ones who preceded her in death: her husband, Fred; son, Tommy, grandson, Brian; parents, Clarence and Stokely Jennings; sister, Faye Grubb; and brothers, Perry, Kay and Jack Jennings. She leaves with sweet memories of her presence on this Earth her daughter, Carol Guinn; sons, Greg and Ray Guinn; son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Brenda Guinn; grandsons and their wives, Jeff and RaeAnn, Rob and Amber, Steve and Sandra, Tom and Stephanie, Chris and Shannon and Scott and Belinda; great-granddaughters Cammie, Caitlin, Taylor, Morgan and Reid; and great-grandson Keston; devoted and loving caregiver and friend, Trula Rucker; and several nieces and nephews. She was a woman of great character and strength who always did what needed to be done. She will be missed by all whom knew and loved her. Family and friends met Sunday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel and proceeded to Edgewood Cemetery for a graveside service. Pallbearers were grandsons. GAGNE, Peter André
age 48, of West Knoxville, formerly of West Suffield, Conn., went to be with the Lord early Friday morning, Nov. 26, 2004. Gagne was employed by NISYS Corporation in Oak Ridge. He was a member of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church and coordinator of the Helps Ministry. Gagne led a men’s Bible study group, and was a member of the Seeker’s Sunday School class. He was a member of Toastmasters. An avid lover of nature, he was an assistant Boy Scout master with Troop No. 444. He was a devoted husband and father. Survivors include: wife of 24 years, Lesleigh Gagne; children, Michelle Gagne, Jennifer Gagne and Jason Gagne, all of the home; parents, Norman and Betty Gagne of West Suffield; sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy and Jim Quinn of W.Va., Ann Gagne of Connecticut, Jane and Jim Randall of Massachusetts, Cindy and Gary Nason of Georgia; several nieces. A service was held Monday, Nov. 29, at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Roy Zinn officiating. The family visited with friends following the service. WALSTON, Charles Edward
age 82, of Knoxville, passed away Friday morning Dec. 31, 2004, at St. Mary’s Residential Hospice Center. He was an alumnus of Male High School and the University of Louisville. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946 and was present at the invasion of France and most of the invasion of the Phillipine Islands. He was promoted from apprentice seaman to petty officer first class. He worked for the Courier Journal newspaper in the press room from 1946 to 1968. Walston then transferred to the News Sentinel as superintendent of the press room. He retired in 1990. He was a member of Central Baptist Church of Bearden and the Kings Men Bible Studies taught by Paul Walker. For four years, Walston was vice president of the Top 50 senior club of Chilhowee Hills. He was a member of Holston Hills Golf Club for 10 years. He also worked with Dr. George Wagner and others to start the Senior Computer Program and taught classes for five years at the O’Connor Center. While working at the News Sentinel, he was active with the literacy program helping adults learn to read. He was preceded in death: by his mother, Francis; father, Gene; brother, Joseph Walston; and stepson, Gary C. Day. He is survived: by his beloved wife, Bobbie Clark Day Walston; his children living in another state, Paula, Charles Jr. and Lynda; sister, Edith Metcalf; a host of nephews, nieces and grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Debbie Day; and granddaughter, Lindsay Day. Family and friends met at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel Monday to travel in procession to Greenwood Cemetery for a graveside service with Dr. Larry Fields and the Rev. Archie Fendley officiating. Military honors will be presented by the East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers included: Chad Simpson, Ray Keeney, Wayne Parker, Sonny Day, Paul Walker and S.G. Walker. Honorary pallbearers were members of Kings Men Bible Studies Class. RIGGS, David J.
age 62, of Knoxville, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at home. He was the preacher at The Oak Ridge Church Of Christ for 23 years. He was preceded in death by parents, John Paul and Mary Ballard Riggs. He is survived: by his wife of 43 years, Wanda Riggs; three daughters, Kim Cripps, Becky Williams and Cindy Hudson.; seven grandchildren; and eight brothers, Norman, Steve, Pat, Sherman, Phillip, Richard, Johnny and Dennis Riggs; sisters, Bernita Buschermohle, Janet Pabon and Mary Ann Shemo. Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, in The Chapel of Highland West with Murray Wade officiating. THOMAS, Gerri
age 72, of Knoxville, formerly of Washington, Ill., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004. Thomas was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and a former member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Washington. She founded A C Tax Service in Peoria, Ill., in 1970. She moved to Knoxville in June 2004 to be close to her daughter and granddaughter. Thomas was preceded in death: by the father of her children, Clark Smith; and husband, Jerre Thomas. Survivors include: son, Kevin Smith, and wife Renee, and their son, D. J. of Marquette Heights, Ill.; daughter, Kathy Ely, and husband, Keith, and their daughter, Karie, of Knoxville; sister, Mary Ann Lenz of Waupun, Wis.; two nieces and two nephews. A mass was celebrated Friday at All Saints Catholic Church with the Rev. Chris Michelson officiating. Interment was Monday in Peoria.
