KOPKAU, Arthur Carl Jr.
age 80, of Lenoir City, died Thursday morning, Jan. 27, 2005, at Farragut Health Care Center. Kopkau was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Carl Kopkau Sr. and Frances Gibson Kopkau, and son-in-law, Anthony Galko. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Arlene Faye Neal Kopkau; children, Arthur Carl Kopkau III and wife, Ruth, of Hot Springs, Ark., Jon E. Kopkau and wife, Toni, of Farragut, Mary Galko of Hollywood, Fla.; grandchildren, Allison, Cord, Auburn, Kimberly, Michele, Brian, Susan, David and Erin; great- grandchildren, Hannah, Jeremy, Conor, Jayson and Alexandra; brother, Clair Kopkau of Michigan. HALLOM, William C.
age 55, of West Knoxville, formerly of Naperville, Ill., died suddenly Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at St. Mary’s Medical Center. The owner of the White Hen Pantry in Naperville, Hallom later became a vice president of sales for health and beauty aids. In Knoxville, he had been gallery director for the past four years at the Thomas Kincaid Gallery in West Town Mall. Hallom enjoyed boating, fishing, his dogs, and especially working with his customers at the gallery. He is survived by his wife, Stephany; three children, Billy, Lara, and Michael, all of the Chicago area; his brother, Bob Hallom of Colorado; an aunt, Beverly Nichols of Littleton, Col.; a cousin, David Henney of New York; as well as several nieces & nephews. Friends and customers are asked to join the family in a time of remembrance and celebration of his life during 1-6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 30 at the gallery in West Town Mall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Liver Foundation, 1010 June Rd., Memphis, TN 38119. Arrangements by Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.

FOWLER, Marlene Gilliland
of the Rocky Hill community, passed away Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005, at University of Tennessee Hospital. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister and friend. Especially important to her were her Joy Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church and PEO Chapter AH in Knoxville. She also enjoyed her membership in the Sewing Club and the 1st Friday Book Club. She was past president of the Lyon’s Crossing Homeowner’s Association, and was a 50 year member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She had a special interest in animal welfare and environmental causes. She was born and grew up in Missouri, then moved to Knoxville, where she met her husband of 38 years, Robert Z. Fowler. She graduated from Cornell University and raised her children in Ithaca, N.Y., before retiring to Knoxville in 1992. She was preceded in death by her husband and is survived by her daughters, Ruth Krumhansl and husband, Peter, of New Hampshire and Jennifer Toth and husband, Samuel, of Colorado; grandchildren, Robert and Kira Krumhansl, Carrie, Justin, and Dawson Toth; her two brothers, Richard Gilliland of California and Gene Gilliland of Florida. A service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29 in the chapel of the First Baptist Church of Knoxville with Dr. William D. Shiell officiating. Burial was in Oak Glen Cemetery, Aurora, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 510 W. Main St., Knoxville, TN 37902, or the Knox County Pets for Seniors Project, P.O. Box 51650, Knoxville, TN 37950-1650. GRIFFITH, Ruth Phillips
age 97, died Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 25, 2005, at her Sequoyah Hills home with friends and family by her bedside. She loved her church, Church Street United Methodist, where she had been a member since 1948. She most enjoyed reading, learning, and encouraging others to do the same and was fortunate to spend her career in this practice as librarian at Tyson Junior High School for 36 years until her 1973 retirement. She was preceded in death by her father, Adams Phillips; stepmother, Gladys Wilson Phillips; and sons, Neil Adams Griffith and Robert Noah Griffith. Her survivors include her daughter, Barbara Ruth Griffith of Knoxville; granddaughter, Terri Griffith-Gilbert and husband, Robert Zan Gilbert, of Knoxville; grandsons, Gregory Lloyd Griffith and wife, Robin, William Adams Griffith all of Knoxville, and Scott Eric Griffith of Nashville; great-grandchildren, John Adams Griffith and Kelsey Nicole Griffith; and extended family, Emily Evans York, Cali Ruth York and Shulamith Dawn Walker. The family expresses their thanks to Ruth’s special caregivers, Sondra Silvey Cash, Maria Pickel, and Ava Randolph. The family received friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28 at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel. Funeral service followed at 7:30 p.m. with the Rev. William J. Fowler and the Rev. Cabel W. Trent officiating. Family and friends met at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29 at the W. Adair entrance to Lynnhurst Cemetery Saturday for the interment service. Memorials may be made to Church Street United Methodist Church Outreach Program, Rejoice, 900 Henley St., Knoxville, TN 37902.

WRIGHT, retired Captain Paul Michael, U.S. Marine Corps
age 57, of West Knoxville, died Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 26, 2005, at Parkwest Medical Center. He was a kind, common, gentle man and a loving father. Wright received a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from West Virginia University and a master’s degree in business administration at Pepper-dine University in California. For 27 years, he had been a practicing certified public accountant in Knoxville. He served his country as a helicopter pilot off the coast of Vietnam for six years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. His parents, Paul Edward and Marguerite Williams Wright, preceded him in death. He is survived by his son, Paul Joseph Wright of Knoxville; sister and brother-in-law, Becky and Gordon Heins of Knoxville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary and Pat Wright of Knoxville, Steven and Alesia Wright of Atlanta, Ga.; nieces and nephews, Anna, Jacob, and Alex Heins, Grace and John Wright, all of Knoxville, Sydney and Lindsey Wright of Atlanta. Family and friends met at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, at Tennessee Veterans’ Cemetery for a graveside service with military honors presented by the Volunteer State Veterans Honor Guard. Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel in charge of arrangements.

RICHARDSON, Margaret Richmond,
age 91, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005. She was a member of Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church. Richardson was preceded in death by her husband, Harry W. Richardson. She is survived by her brother, Frank C. Richmond of Miami, Fla., and beloved cousin, Martha Johnson, as well as several other cousins. The family would like to thank her friends and the staff at Brakebill Nursing Home for the many prayers, cards, visits, and kindnesses shown to her during her illness. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 27, at Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church. The family received friends following the service. SPITZER, Rev. Julian W.
born Oct. 9, 1914, passed away Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Tennessee and with a Bachelor of Divinity degree in 1943 from the Union Theological Seminary, Richmond, Va. In 1959, he was given an honorary doctorate degree from King College. He served in the U.S. Navy as Chaplain June 1943 to August 1945. Upon his return to America, he became the assistant pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Knoxville 1946-47 to organize a program to begin Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Twanda Brogdon Spitzer; daughter, Janet Spitzer Frey and husband, David M. Frey; son, Julian (Judd) W. Spitzer Jr.; two loving granddaughters, Amy Frey and Rachel Frey. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, at Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church with Dr. William R. Barron officiating. A private interment will be in Lynnhurst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church, 3700 Keowee Ave., Knoxville TN 37919. Arrangements by Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.
