WILLIAMS, Suzette Jean Luttrell
WILLIAMS, Suzette Jean Luttrell, age 39, of Knoxville went to be with Jesus on Oct. 26, 2003, at Fort Sanders Park West Medical Center. Williams was born in Charleston, W.Va., but grew up in Knoxville. She was a member of Rocky Hill Baptist Church. Williams was a teacher’s assistance with Rocky Hill Elementary School. She was a wonderful wife and mother and was always an encouragement to others. Everyone enjoyed her laughter. She will be dearly missed. Williams was preceded in death by her grandfather, Garfield Woods; Nessie and Aubrey Luttrell. Survivors: husband of 20 years, Stacy Edwin Williams; son, Stacy Edwin (Eddie) Williams II; parents, Bob and Sue Luttrell of Knoxville; grandmother, Virgie Woods of Lenoir City; sister and brother-in-law, Traci Sue and Brian Clayton of Knoxville; brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Alicia Luttrell of Knoxville; aunts, Rose Mary Calloway and Elizabeth Price, both of Lenoir City; uncles, Joe, Jim and John Luttrell, all of Lenoir City; mother-in-law, Jewel Williams of Blaine; brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-laws, Eric and Vicky Williams of Knoxville, Stephanie and Rick McMullen of Alliance, Ohio, Jenifer and Michael Throesch of Ocean Side, Calif.; nieces and nephews, Sandra Williams, Tabitha McMullen, D.J. McMullen, Tyler and Collin Throesch; several other aunts, uncles and close family. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel with Dr. Phillip Nations officiating. Interment followed in the Rocky Hill Cemetery. SHEWBROOKS, John Burke (Jack)
SHEWBROOKS, John Burke (Jack), age 85, of Farragut passed away early Thursday morning, Oct. 23, 2003, at his home. Shewbrooks was born Oct. 19, 1918, in Wilmington, Del. He was retired from TVA as a mechanical engineer. He was also a nautical engineer and worked in a shipyard as a certified electrician. For several years he was a yacht captain based out of Lighthouse Point, Fla. Shewbrooks was a boat racer of inboard hydro planes until he retired at the age of 64. He was a member of Concord United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army. Jack was preceded in death by his twin brother, William and brother, Nevin. Survivors: wife of 37 years, Edna Shewbrooks; son and daughter-in-law, John and Debi Shewbrooks of Waverly, Ohio; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and John Reynolds of Tallahassee, Fla., Ruth and Bryan Cook of Farragut; step sons and step daughters-in-law, Sandy and Karen Weeks of Vonore, Mike and Paula Weeks of Cleveland; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; brother, Fred Shewbrooks of Wilmington, Del.; several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life was held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel with the Rev. Catherine Nance officiating. Interment was in the Tennessee State Veteran’s Cemetery. REYNOLDS, Harold Edward
REYNOLDS, Harold Edward, age 62, of Knoxville passed away suddenly Wednesday Oct. 22, 2003. Reynolds was born July 18, 1941. He helped organize the Junior Golfers Association and was its first president. He graduated from Knoxville Catholic High School – Class of 1959 – and was captain of the golf team. He attended East Tennessee State University where he was captain of the golf team. Reynolds was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Hawaii for two years. He was editor of the sports section of the Navy paper and played on the Navy golf team. Reynolds was a retired PGA golf pro after 40 years in Castro Valley, Calif. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Thomas Reynolds Sr., Knoxville. Survivors: son, Andrew Reynolds of San Francisco; mother, Mary R. Reynolds of Knoxville; sister and brother-in-law, Jim and Kathy Brennan of Farragut; brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Karen Reynolds of Clearwater, Fla.; several nieces and nephews and devoted friend, Patricia Lotrean of Castro Valley, Calif. The family received friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel followed by a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Graveside services were at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Tennessee State Veteran’s Cemetery on Lyons View Dr. with Father John Dowling officiating. MASSENGILLE, Carol K.
MASSENGILLE, Carol K., age 54, of Knoxville, died suddenly Oct. 21, 2003. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Knoxville. Carol was a graduate of Bearden High School and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She was a teacher with the Knox County School System and taught at Farragut Middle School for the last 20 years. Her father, Robert B. Massengille, precedes her in death. Carol is survived by her loving mother, Ruth B. Massengille, sister and brother-in-law Barbara and John Fasolino of Dallas, Texas; sister and brother-in-law Suzanne and Jack Woodhouse; nieces, Lael Kmecza, Nicole Hattler and husband Richard, all of Asheville, N.C.; and the nephew she was so proud of, Anthony Fasolino of Dallas, Texas. She leaves behind her loving schnauzers, Fred and Mike, and numerous other family, friends and colleagues. A memorial service was held Oct. 25 at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel where the Rev. HASKINS SR., The Rev. Thomas G.
HASKINS SR., The Rev. Thomas G., age 79, of Knoxville, formerly of Sweetwater, went home to be with the Lord early Wednesday morning, Oct. 22, 2003, at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Haskins retired from REVCO in 1989. He was a Southern Baptist minister. He retired from Mt. View Baptist Church in 1986. For more than 20 years he was “Tom the Barber” at the Marble Front and Farragut Hotel Barber Shops. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with distinction in the U. S. Navy aboard the USS Jupiter A K A 37. After seeing action in eight separate battles, G.M.F.C. Haskins personally viewed the raising of the U.S. flag over Iwo Jima. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 120 in Loudon. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Florence Burton Haskins. Survivors: daughter and son-in-law, Peggy Haskins Snow and Clifford Snow of Oak Ridge; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas G. Haskins Jr. and wife Sherry Lynn Haskins of Knoxville; 19 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Agnes Acuff of Greensboro, NC; brother, Verlin Haskins of Sweetwater; several nieces and nephews. The family received friends from 5 to 6:45 p.m. Friday at the Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel followed by funeral services at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Don Long and the Rev. Chris Bunn officiating. Family and friends gathered at 11 a.m. Saturday at Forkner’s Chapel Cemetery for graveside service with full military honors conferred by American Legion Posts No. 120, and No. 70 and VFW Post 5150. HARPER, Margaret Harris
HARPER, Margaret Harris, age 92, a longtime resident of West Hills, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003. She was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church and former member of First Baptist Church of Knoxville. Harper was a former member of Ossoli Circle, U.D.C., D.A.C., and was an avid bridge player. She was the widow of Horace L. Harper Sr. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Horace L. Jr. and Mary Harper, Bob and Becky Harper, all of Knoxville; grandchildren Wade L. Harper and wife Susan of Knoxville, Margaret Ann Barrow and husband Mark of Columbia, S.C., Mary Carol Wehinger and husband Craig of Knoxville, Cynthia Lynn Job and husband Matt of Charlotte, N.C.; and 12 great-grandchildren, Will, Jack, Sidney, and Caroline Harper, Mary Margaret, Steven, and Robert Barrow, McKensie and Ann Marie Wehinger, Madeline, Sophie and Ava Job. The family wishes to express special thanks to the management and staff of the Echo Ridge Community for their friendship and care. GILBERT, Steven Craig
GILBERT, Steven Craig “Steve,” age 48, of Loudon, died suddenly Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003. He was a member of Loudon Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Gilbert grew up in Maryville where he graduated from Maryville High School in 1974. He attended East Tennessee State University on a football scholarship. In 1983, Gilbert entered the United States Naval Service where he graduated as section commander in his Great Lakes training center class. Afterwards, he served in the Naval Medical Corps in Oakland, Calif., before returning to Tennessee. Gilbert settled in Loudon after marrying his wife, Vann Blair, a descendent of one of Tennessee’s first families. Gilbert worked in the home building and painting trades. Gilbert was a kind, loving individual who will be sorely missed by family and friends. Survivors: wife, Vann Blair Gilbert; stepson, Barkley Wiseman, both of Loudon; father, Buddy Gilbert and wife Peggy of Alcoa; mother, Carolyn Dyer Butcher and husband Allen of Johnson City; brother, C. Coulter “Bud” Gilbert of Knoxville; sister, Joni Gilbert Cannon and husband Roger; nieces Sarah and Leah Cannon, all of Murfreesboro; mother-in-law Mrs. J.J.
