HURLEY, Steven Michael,
age 26, of Knoxville, passed away suddenly Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007. Steven was the beloved son of Pamela and Charles Dingess of Knoxville; father of, Paris Lashae and Ashlynn Rose; brother of, Peyton Hurley and Brittney Dingess of Knoxville, Corey, Brandon and Lea Hurley of KY. He was employed as a driver with Gouffon Moving and Storage. Steven was preceded in death by his Father Richard Keith Hurley. Funeral services were Friday in the Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel. GRITZNER, Wilona “Willie,”
age 89, of Farragut, died Jan. 26, 2007. Mrs. Gritzner was a member of Concord United Methodist Church, and a longtime employee of the Farragut Library. She was an avid bridge player and an enthusiastic baseball fan. Mrs. Gritzner was preceded in death by her husband: Charles Lyle Gritzner; and granddaughter, Cheryl White Pryor; sister, Eleanor “Billie” Whipple. She is the beloved mother of son and partner, Michael and Cesar Rojo of San Diego, Calif., son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Karen Gritzner of Lenoir City, daughter and son-in-laws, Patti and Steve Flesser of Spring Valley, Calif., Sandy and David White of Knoxville; grandchildren, Cheryl, Angie, Michael, Kristi, Kayla, Shaina and Tamarah; great-grandchildren, Shelby, Andy and Cameron. Funeral service was Monday, Jan. 29, at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with Pastor Eddie Chasteen officiating. The family and friends met Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Highland Memorial Cemetery for an interment service. ROBINSON, Halbert (Chick),
age 85, of Knoxville, formerly of Loudon, passed away early Wednesday morning, Jan. 10, 2007, at Loudon Health Care. Halbert was a resident of Manor House Assisted Living for the past three years. He was a member of Martel United Methodist Church and Thorngrove Baptist Church. Halbert was retired from Kmart with 30 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Navy. Halbert was an avid fisherman and sports fan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Heaton Robinson; daughter, Lisa Robinson Brown; parents, John L. Robinson and Oda (Robbie) Long Robinson; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Nadine Robinson; sister, Faye Harrison. Survivors: daughter and son-in-law, Ginger and Dana Shubert of Lenoir City; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Mary Anne Robinson of Panama City, Fla.; grandchildren, Jennifer Myers and husband, Eric, of Knoxville, and their daughter, Jordan, Chris Shubert of Portland, Ore.; niece, Dr. Phyllis Gilreath and husband, Dr. Jim Gilreath, of Myakka, Fla. BLUM, Claudia Anne,
age 80, died peacefully Sunday morning, Jan. 21, 2007, at her Heiskell home. She was born on Oct. 6, 1926, in Atlanta, Ga., and was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She was retired as an registered nurse from Knox County Health Department and was previously the head of Pediatric Nursing at Long Island Jewish Hospital. Claudia was preceded in death by her parents, John Gavin Laing and Leora Pollock Hair; husband, Louis Blum; and brother-in-law, Harry Blum. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Dr. William Gavin and Sharon Laing; nieces and nephews and their spouses, Leslie and Joe Taylor, Lance and Hilary Laing, Grant and Michelle Laing, Catherine and James Wike and Cynthia and Ken St. Germain; great-nieces and nephews, Grayson Taylor, Olivia, Pierce and Serena Laing, Gavin, Jacob and Connor Wike and Nicholas St. Germain.; friends and caretakers for Mrs. Blum, Thomas and Christine Brown, Charlotte Sands, Pat Harrison and H.B. and Delia Bunch; very close friends, Jane Worth, Anne Knight, Holly Watts, Hilda Lype, Barbara Colby and Glenda Brown, who took the time to visit and care for Claudia often and with love. Her extended family includes Harold Lee, June M. Laing, Ralph Kay, Larry Blum, Annie Laurie and Robert Blum; and special friends, Greg and Sherry Harris, Allan, Kris and Nathan Brown, Helen Sharp, Rex Welch and Ann Roe. A very special thanks to the CARIS Health Care and Dr. Bhandari and Dr. McCachren for their special care and support during Mrs. Blum’s illness. SHARPE, Gordon Emert,
of Farragut passed away Monday, Jan. 15, 2007, at 2:14 a.m. at Saint Mary’s Hospital. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Concord, where he served as a deacon. Gordon was born Nov. 19, 1938, to the late Mattie Lynn (Emert) Sharp Trammell and Ottis Orlie Sharp of Gatlinburg, at the same Saint Mary’s Hospital. He grew up in Gatlinburg, and after graduating from Pi Beta Phi High School and East Tennessee State University, was employed in Development and Research for Great Lakes Carbon Fiber in Elizabethton. The company became Fortafil Fibers of Rockwood, and he retired from there in 2004. Gordon was a member of Cherokee Lodge No. 728. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Charles S. Trammell, who was his “Dad” beginning when he was 4. Mr. Trammell, a close friend of his father, married his mother after Mr. Sharp died; by grandparents, Tillman McCaga Sharp and Clarissa Emert Robertson; and John Jones Emert and Martha Caroline Layman. Gordon is the loving husband of Freda Castle Sharpe; he remains father, “Daddy,” “Dad” of Teresa Michele Gray, Rebecca Elaine Sharpe and Gordon Nathanael Sharpe; He will always be “Gran-pere” to Trainor McAllister Gray and John Castle Gray. A Masonic Service was held by Cherokee Lodge Thursday followed by a Funeral Service at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with the Rev. Steve Peek officiating. Honorary pallbearers: deacon’s, past and present, First Baptist Church, Concord. The family and friends met Friday at Shiloh Cemetery, Pigeon Forge, for an interment service. LINEBAUGH Jr., George Phillips,
a well-known figure in the Nashville legal community, passed away Jan. 25, 2007, in Knoxville due to complications of Parkinson’s disease. George was born in Nashville December 1, 1927. His father owned and operated Linebaugh’s Restaurant on 4th and Broad, a popular eatery for Opry and local folks alike. George graduated from West High School and The University of Tennessee, where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. His college years were interrupted by service in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean War, where he earned a Bronze Star. His engineering unit was charged with building roads through the Korean mountains to bring supplies and troops to the front lines. Upon his return from service in 1953, he graduated from UT College of Law, and then met and married his wife, Ann, Jan. 22, 1954. They returned to Nashville and three sons followed. George practiced law for more than 40 years, often serving as substitute general sessions judge. He finished his career as a Metro Night Court Magistrate, which provided a source of many fascinating and often entertaining stories. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mabel Rhodes Linebaugh Wulk; father, George Phillips Linebaugh Sr.; brother, James R. Linebaugh; and stepfather, Clifford G. Wulk. He is survived by his loving wife, Ann Harsh Linebaugh; son, George P. Linebaugh III of Washington, D.C.; son and daughter-in-law, David and Ellen Linebaugh of Marietta, Ga.; and half-sister, Gayle Wulk of Greensboro, N.C.; grandchildren, Maria and Sophia Linebaugh of Marietta, Preston, Matthew and Daniel Linebaugh of Knoxville. The family received friends Monday at Brentwood UMC followed by the funeral service. Interment with military honors was Tuesday at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Nashville. GREANEY III, James Edward,
born April 17, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pa., and raised in Lakewood, Ohio, a loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007, surrounded by his family after an extended illness. He was a Catholic and a 40-year member of Sacred Heart Cathedral, spending most of those years singing in the choir and in various local and state offices with the Knights of Columbus. He retired as a vice president of John Beretta Tile Company. He graduated from Xavier University in Cincinnati where he met his surviving wife of 45 years, Sandra. He also is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Mark Christopher; son, James Greaney IV; daughter, Kathryn Greaney; grandchildren, Christopher Carver and Heather Christopher, all of Knoxville. Funeral Mass was Wednesday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church with the Rev. T. Allen Humbrecht and Monsignor Xavier Mankel officiating. Interment followed at Highland Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Cathedral Choir, 711 Northshore Drive, Knoxville, TN 37919. HURLEY, Mary Lynn Sherrod,
age 53, of Mascot, died suddenly, Wednesday, April 23, 2008. A Knoxville native, she was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church and a deputy court clerk with the Knox County Criminal Court. Mary Lynn loved life, but now rests in peace with God and will be waiting for all by whom she is sadly missed. She was a great mother, daughter, sister and good friend. Her survivors include her children, Jacob Daniel Hurley and Caitlin Shea; parents, Frank and Carolyn Sherrod; sisters, Cathy Johnson and husband, Doug, Peggy DeVenney and Kai; brother, Mike Sherrod and wife, Sherry; former husband, Daniel John Hurley; special cousin, Dan Housley; nieces, nephews and special friends. She also leaves her dog, Lilly. Funeral mass was Saturday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church with Monsignor Xavier Mankel officiating. Interment followed in Greenwood Cemetery.
