PRIBOR M.D. Ph.D., Hugo C.
age 78, of Farragut, formerly of Westfield, N.J., Nashville and Tampa, Fla, died peacefully at home, Sunday morning, June 3, 2007, surrounded by his family. Dr. Pribor was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church. He received his doctorate and medical degree at St. Louis University. Dr. Pribor was an active clinical pathologist for 50 years. He served as director of laboratories at Perth Amboy General Hospital in Perth Amboy, N.J. Thereafter, he founded and served as CEO and chairman of the board of Center for Laboratory Medicine Inc., a publicly-listed reference laboratory based in Metuchen, N.J. For more than 20 years, he served as medical director of Quest Diagnostics in Nashville. For the last several years of his life, Dr. Pribor devoted himself to the practice of age management medicine. He was an avid sailor, survived Hurricane Agnes during the famous 1972 Newport-Bermuda Yacht Race with son, Jeff, in crew, and a member of New York Yacht Club and St. Petersburg Yacht Club. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judith Smith Pribor; children, Jeffrey Pribor and wife, Susie, of Madison, N.J., Elizabeth Pribor M.D. and husband, Don Emery II. of St. Louis, Mo., Kate Schulte and husband, John Schulte M.D., of Farragut; grandchildren, Jeffrey Pribor Jr., Molly Pribor, Tucker Pribor, Dusty Pribor, Madeline Emery, Gwendolyn Emery, Ricky Schulte, Rory Schulte and Rebecca Schulte; brother, Don Pribor of Toledo, Ohio; several nieces and nephews. A Mass was celebrated Thursday at St. John Neumann Catholic Church with the Rev. John Dowling, celebrant. Family and friends will gather at 9 a.m., Friday, at Pleasant Forest Cemetery for graveside services with full military honors conferred by the Volunteer State Veterans Honor Guard. TAUBE, Raymond H. (Ray),
age 80, of Knoxville, went to be with the Lord early Sunday morning, June 3, 2007, at his home. Ray was a retired salesman from Newlyweds Foods, having spent more than 30 years selling spices and seasonings to regional and national food processors. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Navy. Ray was a loving husband and father, with a keen sense of humor. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Anna and Harold Taube; and brother, Edward Taube. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Patsy Faye Byrd Taube; daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Kent Rowland of Knoxville, Joanne and Ken Towery of Louisville, Ky.; stepchildren, Jerry Barger and wife, Roxie, of Rockford, Ill., Debbie Lynch and Jackie Appel, both of Ringgold, Ga.; grandchildren, Michael Plichta and wife, Nicole, Eric and Adam Rowland, Crystal and Nikki Appel, Emily and Michael Barger; great-grandchildren, Colin and Madison Plichta; and a step great-grandchild. PITT, Ernest Morris, Sr.,
age 85, of Knoxville, died peacefully Sunday evening, June 3, 2007, at the Ben Atchley State Veteran’s Nursing Home. He was a member of Gallaher Memorial Baptist Church. Mr. Pitt was a World War II U.S. Army veteran who received the Purple Heart, the World War II Victory Medal, the American Service Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the Combat infantryman Badge and the Parachutist Badge (Airborne). Following graduation from George Peabody College in Nashville with a master’s degree, Mr. Pitt began his career as a very successful head football coach at Jo-Byrns High School in Robertson County and the Joelton High School in Nashville. A highlight of his career was an invitation for his Jo-Byrns squad to play in the first ever Little Bowl in Lawrenceburg against a Huntland High School team coached by Shirley Majors. Although ahead for most of the game, coach Pitt’s squad lost following a Johnny Majors’ punt return for a touchdown. Mr. Pitt also was a member of the Old Hickory Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Virginia Pitt in 1992; and by brother, Ralph Pitt. Ernest is survived by his devoted sons and daughter-in-law, Ernest M. Jr. and Patricia Pitt and Gregory Lee Pitt; beloved grandsons, Gregory Lee Pitt Jr. and Brian James Pitt. Funeral service was Wednesday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with the Rev. Ron Bright officiating. Family and friends will meet at Sherwood Memorial Gardens Thursday for an 11:00 a.m. interment service. GARLAND Sr., Dr. William C. (W.C.),
age 79, of Knoxville, died Monday, May 28, 2007. He was a member of Central Baptist Church of Bearden and a member of the Baptist faith. Dr. Garland was a graduate of The University of Tennessee, the Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and became the associate pastor of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church in Knoxville. He also was the pastor of First Baptist Church in Covington, Texas, the pastor of Valley Grove Baptist Church on Chapman Highway, the pastor of First Baptist Church in Humboldt, the First Baptist Church in Florence, Ala., and the pastor of the First Southern Baptist Church in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Dr. Garland served on the Hawaii Pacific Baptist Convention from 1986-1992, where he served as president from 1981-1984, the executive board from 1981-1985, president from 1984-1986, the director of disaster relief, the evangelism director for the islands of Hawaii, Guam and Western Samoa, the director of evangelism and the director of missions for the H.P.B.C. Dr. Garland was a trustee to the Union University in Jackson from 1961-1968 and the adjunct professor to the Wayland Baptist University in Hawaii from 1979-1986. Dr. Garland was also the interim executive director for the Alaska Baptist Convention from 1995-1996. W.C. is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Jo Thompson Garland, whom he was married to for the past 57 years; sons and daughters-in-law, W.C. (Nick) Garland Jr. and Jenine Garland and John Mark and Pat Garland, daughters and son-in-law, Leanne and Col. Terry DeRouchey and Cynthia Rutherford; grandchildren, Joshua and Jodi Garland, Mark and Andrew Garland, Ashley Hosse, Joe and Garland DeRouchey, Whitney, Luke and Chase Rutherford; great-grandchildren, Dalton and Dominic Garland; honorary grandchildren, Asia, Amari and Elijah Gosnell, brothers and sisters-in-law, Shirl and Agnes Garland and Lowell and Ruth Garland; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Elmer (Doll) and Virginia Thompson; niece, Janice Thompson Petrone; and aunt, Ollie Mae Thompson Hopper. A celebration of the life of Dr. W.C. Garland Sr. was Saturday at Central Baptist Church of Bearden with the Rev. Nick Garland and Dr. Larry Fields officiating. Interment followed at Lynnhurst Cemetery with full military honors presented by the Volunteer State Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers were Mark and Drew Garland, Joe DeRouchey, Luke and Chase Rutherford and Grant Newman; honorary pallbearers were all ministers and pastors. BRIMI, Dr. Robert John,
died peacefully on Monday May 28, 2007, at his home. He was born July 16, 1918, to Dr. Carl Linnaeus and Elizabeth Brimi of Cooperstown, N.D. He was a charter parishioner of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Dr. Brimi received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Minnesota in 1943. Dr. Brimi completed an internship and residency in pathology at Wayne County Hospital, Detroit, Mich., and an internal medicine residency at Minneapolis General Hospital. Dr. Brimi served as captain in the U.S. Army in World War II. He moved to Knoxville in 1951 where he practiced internal medicine for 38 years, retiring in 1989. Dr. Brimi was one of the Pioneer Teaching Physicians of the University of Tennessee Medical Center. He was a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, and the Knoxville Academy of Medicine. He also was a member of the Serra Club of Knoxville and a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. Bob, who will be greatly missed, was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, physician and storyteller. He enjoyed many interests including music, literature, math, baseball, the Golden Gophers, bridge and his pipe. Dr. Brimi also is preceded in death by his son, William Francis Brimi; his grandson, Thomas Sever Rhinehart; his sister, Elizabeth Leighton; and his brothers, William and Carl Brimi. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Hazel Catherine Kaiser Brimi; children, John and wife, Betty, Barbara, Robert and wife, Connie, Paul, Mary Kay, Elizabeth and husband, Eric Redheffer, Carol and husband, Robert Rhinehart Jr., and Patricia and husband, Thomas Janney; grandchildren, Ben and Lore Mandrell, Hunter and Carrie Brimi, Jeff Moffitt, Jill Moffitt, William, Brian and Catherine Perkins, Sara and Jason Ogle, Robert and Michael Rhinehart and Caroline Low; step-grandchildren Ginger Shillings, Greg Shillings and Nicholas Redheffer; and great-granddaughters, Kerrigan Elizabeth and Anna Marie Mandrell. His brothers- and sisters-in-law, Cary Fardette, Magdalen Pech, the Rev. Thomas Kaiser, Lloyd Kaiser, Bernard and Patrica Kaiser, Glenn and Eileen Marron, and Jody and Donald Miller. CAUBLE Jr., Daniel Webster,
age 90, of Louisville, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007, at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center from complications of emphysema. Born Oct. 15, 1916, in Knoxville, the son of the late Daniel Webster and Texie Pamelia Cauble, he grew up on the family farm on Peltier Road and graduated from Central High School. He began a career in pest control in 1939 with Orkin Exterminating Company and in 1957 acquired Biltmore Pest Control in Knoxville and Chattanooga. He served as president of the Tennessee Pest Control Association and on the Tennessee Pest Control Licensing Board. He was a founding member and officer of the Tennessee Valley Sportsmen’s Club, a Boy Scout troop leader, and active in Kiwanis and Lions Clubs. A Scottish Rite Mason, Mr. Cauble was a member of Bright Hope Lodge No. 557 F&AM and Church Street United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Fern Strader Cauble; brothers, Earl and Loyall Cauble; and sisters, Clevo Naugher Atchley, Rose Graham and Ocie Cauble. He is survived by his wife, Betty Henson Cauble; daughter, Jeanette Dean; sons, Dr. Daniel Webster Cauble III and wife, Ellyn Clapp Cauble, E. Christopher Cauble and wife, Linda Palmer Cauble; stepchildren, Jean Shufelt and husband, George, and Robin Cauble; grandchildren, Pamela Kincaid, Becky Wyatt, Jason Dean, Amanda Dean, Beth Gross, Megan Cauble, Eric Cauble and Christopher Cauble; great-grandchildren, Katherine and Jack Kincaid, Bradie Hastings, and Ellis Marie Gross; niece, Betty Jo Reagan Case; cousin, Fred Smith; and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. Following a private interment service, there was a memorial service Friday at Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church with Dr. William R. Barron officiating. ROSE, James Varnell,
age 81, of Knoxville, died peacefully Aug. 4, 2007, at Shannondale Health Care Center. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension and a charter member and officer of the Knoxville Downtown Sertoma Club, the Men’s Cotillion Club, Cherokee Country Club for 55 years and on the board of directors for the Old Gray Cemetery. James attended Sequoyah School and then enrolled in Asheville School for boys in Asheville, N.C. He then attended The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. James then joined the U.S. Air Force. He was retired from Miller’s Department store where he worked for 35 years as vice president and treasurer, where he saw the store expand from one single store to many stores. James will be forever remembered as a wonderful friend, husband, father and sportsman. James is preceded in death by his parents, D. Morton and Katherine Varnell Rose; and niece, Patricia Murphy. James is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Joan Rankin Rose; daughter, Katherine Ann Rose of Lynchburg, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, James V. Rose Jr. and Julie Guion Rose of Asheville; grandchildren, Emily Rose Morgan, Andrew, Alex and Daniel Rose; brother and sister-in-law, D. Morton and Emily Fritz Rose; sister-in-law, Betty Rankin Graves; and nephews, Charles R. Murphy and Elizabeth Wood.
