A member of the Old Harp Shape Note Singers in Knoxville. A veteran of the Korean War serving in the U. S. Navy. Retired from Martin Marietta, K-25 plant in 1993. A devoted husband and father. Preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Flora Bowles. C. was retired from Lakeshore where he worked as a security guard for 18 years. He was Taxi driver in Lenoir City for many years. He was a veteran of W. W. II serving in the U. S. Mashbern, Kenneth Neal, age 77, of Lenoir City, passed away early Saturday morning March 25, 2000 at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center. Kenneth owned and operated Mashbern Jewelers in Lenoir City for over fifty years. He was a Director for the First National Bank. He was active in the Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Merchants Association for many years. Kenneth attended Central United Methodist Church and the Volunteer Sunday School Class. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the Army Air Corp. Kenneth was a member of Avery Lodge #592 F&AM, the Scottish Rite Bodies, Eastern Star #188, and was a 32 Degree mason. He was preceded in death by his parents, P.A. and Inez Dodson Mashbern. Survivors: wife of 58 years, Roberta Alford Mashbern. Leon was an ordained deacon and a member of Dixie Lee Baptist Church. He was a member of Iron Workers Local #395 in Hammond Indiana. He was a member of Chota Lodge #253 F&AM, the Scottish Rite Bodies and a 32 degree mason. Leon was a veteran of World War II serving with the Navy. Maxie was a first grade teacher at Sam Houston Elementary School in Maryville from 1951 until her retirement in 1973. Gouge, Wayne, age 65, of Lenoir City passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2001, at his home after an 18 month battle with cancer. He was a graduate of Knox Central Class of 53. Wayne served in the U. S. Marines from 1953- 1955. He retired from Bell South with 36 years of service. He loved his family, his 1982 Dodge pickup, tour-bus travel, and his morning walk with his friend, Dewey Easton and Pepper. Billington, Lester C., Age 71 of Knoxville died Saturday, January 6, at his home. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Knoxville. Lester was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the army. He was employed at Honeywell in MN before moving to Knoxville. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a mechanical engineer at Allied Signal and Union Carbide. His favorite past times were fishing and hunting. He was preceded in death by his father, Lester Gail Billington, brothers Kenneth and Gary. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Bonnie J. Jim was retired from the United States Air Force. After his retirement, he worked in real estate in Florida before returning to Tennessee and enjoy farming. Hall, Pauline Dunlap, age 91, of 2300 Diggs Road, Knoxville passed away Sunday, January 7, 2001 at the Country Place Health Care Center in Crossville. Pauline was a member of Everett Road Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Hall; and son, Herbert Hall Jr. Survived by her sons & daughters-in-law, Bill and Margie Hall of Crossville, Ray and Elizabeth Hall of Knoxville; grandson, Mickey Hall of Knoxville; 2 great grandchildren, Ashton and Aaron Hall; sister, Imogene Pavey of Knoxville; brother, Eugene Watt of Seymour; several nieces and nephews. Cummins, Robert M., age 73, of Loudon Tn., formerly of St. Louis Mo., passed away suddenly Monday afternoon January 8, 2001 at his home. Bob was a member of Loudon Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the church choir. He was a dedicated volunteer for the Ft. Sanders Hospital in Loudon. Bob was retired from Cargill Inc. in Dayton Ohio and Minneapolis Minn. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the Army and the Merchant Marines. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Mattison and Chloe Wicks Cummins. Survivors: wife of 53 years, Dolores (Dee) Cummins; children and spouses, Barbara and John McShane, Robert J. and Gwen Cummins, Cheryl and Steven Ebel all of St. Louis Mo., Michael Cummins and David Cummins both of Atlanta Ga., Mary Ellen and Rick Brannaman of Baltimore Md., Teresa and Adam Delong of LaFayette Ind.; 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; brother, Bill Cummins of Belleville Ill.; 2 nieces and a nephew. Culberson, Emily McDaniel, Age 80 of West Knoxville, formerly of Seguin Texas, passed away Tuesday evening January 9, 2001 at Parkwest Hospital in Knoxville. She graduated from Texas Lutheran College. Emily was a member of Church Street United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and participated in the church’’s Soup Kitchen program serving the less fortunate. Emily was dedicated to being a homemaker to her family. Over the years she also served as a Girl Scout leader in Corpus Christi TX and Charlotte NC, participated in Meals on Wheels and spent thousands of hours as a volunteer at Children’’s Hospital in Knoxville. Emily was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard King McDaniel and Emma Enck McDaniel; sisters, Leona McDonald and Margaret Albers. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Oran L. Culberson; daughters and son-in-law, Suzanne and Robert Kita of Bailey CO, Eileen Schlatter and Carol Rimmer both of Farragut; grandchildren, Oran Kita and wife Jennifer, Scott Kita, Valerie Richardson and husband Jay Hoodenpyl, John Michael Schlatter, Steven Rimmer; great grandchildren, Jack and Phillip Hoodenpyl; brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Nita McDaniel of Garden City KS, and brother-in-law John Albers, Seguin TX. Griffith, Evelyn Duff Cardwell, age 82, of Oak Ridge, formerly of the Oral Community and Kingston, passed away early Thursday morning January 11, 2001 at the Briarcliff Nursing Home in Oak Ridge. Evelyn was a member of Kern Memorial United Methodist Church in Oak Ridge. She was retired from the Kingston City School System with 17 years of service as an elementary school teacher. Evelyn was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Rev. Marcus Cardwell and Mack Griffith; daughter, Amy Cardwell Clayton; parents, Leonard Duff and Allie Byrd Duff; Survivors: sons and daughters-in-law, Lynn and Joyce Cardwell of Oak Ridge, Ken and Norma Cardwell of Overland Park, Kansas; son-in-law, Roger Clayton of Atlanta, Georgia.; grandchildren, Marc Cardwell and wife April of Columbia, South Carolina, Teri Browne and husband Patrick of Overland Park Kansas, Eric Cardwell and wife Charlene of Olathe, Kansas; several great grandchildren; sister, Frances Henry of Nashville, sister and brother in law Martha and Bob Tripp of Waxhaw, North Carolina, brother and sister in law Calvin and Donna Duff of New Castle Indiana, sister in law Dixie Cardwell of Strawberry Plains; several nieces and nephews.
