Kathleen Kerley, age 96, of Mooresville, NC passed away Wednesday morning, September 12, 2007 in Knoxville, TN. Kathleen was a member of Southside Baptist Church since 1940. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Kerley, who died in service of his country in 1944, and parents, Noel and Addie Torrence and half-brother, Thomas Proctor. Kathleen served her church faithfully as a Sunday School department leader for more than 40 years. Survivors include daughter, Janet Kerley Gabriel and husband Tony Gabriel of Knoxville; grandchildren, Alicia Gabriel of Mooresville and Mark Gabriel of Knoxville; half-sister Georgia Sharpe Ward of Jacksonville, FL; many nieces and nephews. Ernest Rudolph "Rudy" McConnell, age 85, passed away, Tuesday, September 11, 2007 on his 59th wedding anniversary. He resided at Loudon Healthcare Center and formerly lived in Rossville, Georgia. Rudy served with U.S. Coast Guard during WWII and was retired from DuPont. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Walter Ernest and Laura Emma Creech McConnell; his brother, Robert Ralph ''Bobby'' McConnell, Sr.; his sister, Wanda Riddle; and brother-in-law, Turner Riddle. Pauline E. Morgan, age 61, of Knoxville, passed away Tuesday morning, September 11, 2007 at Parkwest Hospital. Polly was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by husband, Vaughn Morgan Sr; parents, Paul and Velma Maples and sister, Edith White. Frances Hitch Moore, age 84, of Concord, Tennessee passed away on September 12th, 2007. Frances was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, J. C. Moore and parents Raymond and Laura James Hitch of Blount county. She is survived by sister Erma Hitch, brother Bud Hitch and sister Wilma Haun, son and daughter in-law Tony and Karen Moore of Powell, Tennessee, daughter and son in-law Lisa and Joe Ellsworth of Port St. John, Florida and son and daughter in-law Brad and Cathy Moore of Concord, Tennessee, grandchildren Rusty Shinpaugh, Joshua Ellsworth, Laura Ellsworth, Joseph Ellsworth, Rachel Moore, and Rebecca Moore. Frances was a devoted wife and loving mother. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, Concord for 52 years. She was a member of WMU and the Farragut garden club for many years. She was a giving and caring lady, always thinking of others needs before her own. Robinson, William Glenn "Burhead", Sr., age 82, of Lenoir City, passed away Friday September 14, 2007 at his home. He was a retired electrician for TVA and later J. W. Wilburn Hardware. Glenn was a faithful member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Lenoir City, where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Board Member and Steward/Trustee. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the US Army and later the TN National Guard. He was preceded in death by his parents, Doyle and Nelle Robinson; a son, William "Bill" Glenn Robinson, Jr.; and four brothers, Elwood, Jim, Joe and Jack. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Ruth Nichols Robinson; son, Vic Robinson and wife, Teri of Roanoke, VA; daughter-in-law, Sandra Robinson Tilley and husband, Ron of Lenoir City; granddaughters, Holly Robinson of Herscher, IL, Andrea Housley and husband, Larry of Lenoir City, and Season Robinson of Roanoke, VA; great-grandson, Landon Housley; sisters, Mary Ruth Nick ell and husband, Joe of Maryville, Agness Richardson of North Port, AL; brother, Carl Robinson and wife, Vivol of Lenoir City; and a host of extended family and friends. Thomas McLean Inman, age 69, of Farragut went to be with the Lord Sunday afternoon, September 16, 2007. Tom was a charter member and Elder of Faith Fellowship Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was retired from Norfolk Southern Railway claims department with 27 years of service. Tom was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Ethel McLean Inman; sister, Patsy Gardner who were all from Laurinburg, NC. Jean McElroy Miller, age 61, of Lenoir City, TN, formerly of Needham, MA and Shrewsbury, MA died of complications from breast cancer on Sunday, September 16, 2007 in Knoxville, TN. Jean was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church. She attended Boston University. Jean enjoyed writing and had written articles and short stories for several magazines. She published non-fiction in Home and Portfolio magazines, mainstream fiction in Chips Off The Writer's Block and Agapae, plus two horror stories in After Hours. She received an Honorable Mention in 1987 Writer's Digest writing competition, article category. Presently, she was working on a horror novel. She also enjoyed cross stitching and painting. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Rosalie McElroy; brother-in-law, Karl Seger. Donald Ray Stryker, age 82, of Farragut, TN, formerly of Deerfield, IL, passed away Sunday Morning, September 16, 2007 at his home. Don was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Farragut and a former member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Deerfield. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U S Navy. He was retired from ARA Services in Libertyville, IL with over 30 years of service. Don's grandfather was one of the first doctors in Deerfield and started Knaak Pharmacy in 1884. He was preceded in death by his parents, Amanda Knaak Stryker and Romayne Stryker; brother, Alvin Stryker; sister, Romain Stryker. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Jeanette Lorenz Stryker; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Kevin Connors of Knoxville; grandchildren, Kimberly Connors and Ryan Connors. Ella Jane Berven, age 57, died peacefully at home in Knoxville on September 17, 2007, after a 2 year battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family. Ella is survived by her life companion Gayle Hansen Browne, children, and grandchildren-Katie Berven of Knoxville, Matthew and Tonya Berven (and their children, Andrew and Jacob) of Oak Ridge, Rita Gayle Browne of Knoxville, Jennifer and Jason MacIsaac (and their daughter Fiona) of Knoxville, and Paul and Yelim Browne of Meriden, CT. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law Cindy and Frank Crocetti of Chestnut Hill, MA; her nephew Paul Crocetti of Chestnut Hill; and her niece Mary Crocetti, also of Chestnut Hill. Ella was predeceased by her mother Mary Jane Shea and her father Delmas Clay Stutler. born on March 27, 1950, in Washington, DC, she moved to Oak Ridge in 1979 and to Knoxville in 2000. Ella raised her two children, and then went back to school, graduating summa cum laude from Roane State Community College and earning the President’s Award. She then went on to Maryville College, graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. She then finished her education at the University of Tennessee, graduating again summa cum laude with a Master’s degree in Special Education. A gifted student, Ella’s essay “Cry, Wolf,” which described the reintroduction of gray wolves into Yellowstone National Park, won the December 1995 Beulah Davis Outstanding Freshman Writer Award and is published on the Web. For the past 4 years, Ella taught the Special Education Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) class at Eagleton Elementary School in Blount County. Combining her immense creative skills with her deep love for children, Ella taught functional living skills to kindergarten through fifth grade special education students. Ella loved her job and even after being diagnosed with terminal cancer, continued to teach until the last weeks of her life. The children she taught gave color, meaning, and depth to her life. A life-long Episcopalian, Ella served in many roles at churches around East Tennessee, including St. Luke’s in Knoxville, Church of the Resurrection in Loudon, and St. Stephen’s in Oak Ridge. She served in multiple capacities, including Acolyte Master, Youth Group Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Vestry Member, and delegate to Diocesan conventions. She led wherever she served and will be deeply missed by those in the parishes whose lives she touched. Ella was passionate about animals. She adopted countless numbers of stray dogs, including her special favorites Ganch and Beau. She was also an equestrian and had horses for a time at the East Tennessee Riding Club in Oak Ridge. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2007, at 2:00 pm at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 600 South Chestnut Street, Knoxville, TN. Phone: 522-4244. Dorothy Emma Kiggans, age 84, of Lenoir City, passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at Parkwest Medical Center. She was a 32 year member of First Baptist Church Lenoir City where she was a member of the Virginia Breazeale Sunday School Class. Dorothy retired from the Lenoir City Schools after 22 years service where she was the manager of the cafeteria. She was a volunteer at the Good Samaritan Center. Preceded in death by her husband, Jim Kiggans. Dan E. Nowlin, age 77, of the Tellico Village Community, Loudon, TN formerly of Valparaiso, IN passed away Thursday, September 20, 2007. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Dan was a member of Tellico Village Community Church. He retired from IBEW Local 531 in La Porte, IN. Dan was a former member of First Presbyterian Church in Valparaiso and the Elks Club. He was active with the Loudon County Habitat for Humanity. Dan was an avid golfer, gardener and a dedicated Lady Vols Fan. Preceded in death by parents, Everett and Dorcas Nowlin; brother, Don Nowlin. Mary Katherine Scarbrough, age 92, of Asheville, NC formerly of Lenoir City, TN passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2007 in Asheville, NC. She was the daughter of William R. and Jodie Mae Scarbrough. Preceded in death by parents, brothers, Robert, Gilbert and Melford Scarbrough; sister, Betty Shore . She was a graduate of Lenoir City High School, Carson-Newman College (S.C.L.), Master of Arts degree in History and honorary membership in Phi Kappa Phi. A teacher and counselor in Tennessee public schools for 32 years, including two years on leave from Knoxville City schools, teaching in the History Department of the University of Tennessee at the time of the influx of W. W. II veterans, returning from active service. Mary Katherine retired from public schools in 1969 and spent the next 16 years working in the administrative office of Warren Wilson College, Swannanoa, NC. Frances was a former Avon Representative and operated a booth at Sweetwater Flea Market. She was an avid bowler. Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Gorman Taylor Kincaid; son, Teddy Kincaid; parents, Clyde Harper and Anna Shamblin Harper; sisters, Ruth Stillwell, Dorothy Mosely, Stella Conner, Betty Purdy and Blanche Bates; brothers, Russell, Max, Charles and G. He was an avid deer hunter and boater. Efe was preceded in death by his grandfather, Robert Paul LaRue; grandmother, Mildred Luttrell. Mark Allen Wyrick, age 44, of Knoxville, passed away suddenly at 5:30 p.m. Friday, September 21 into the arms of his Lord and Savior. Mark was a member of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church. He was a graduate of Farragut High School and attended the University of Tennessee. Mark was the beloved son of the late Robert Wyrick. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Thomas and Ruth Wyrick, Robert and Deborah Ailor. Mark is survived by his mother, Wanda Ailor Wyrick; brothers, Joseph Wyrick, James Wyrick and wife Vicki; seven nieces and nephews; best friend Celine Ferrah; Godparents, Harvey and Helen Parrish; many friends and relatives. Mark was a very loving and caring person, always helping others in need. True to his spirit, all of his body was donated for transplant and research. It has been confirmed that most has been matched to recipients. This will bring great comfort to Mark as well as his family. The family request your love and prayers that God will sustain us during the trying period. Mark will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Jean (O'Brion) Gibbs, 83, of Lenoir City TN, died Monday, September 17, at Park West Hospital, Knoxville, TN. She was born January 21, 1924, in Missouri, and was preceded in death by her husband, Philip H Gibbs of Carver and her parents, Carlton E. and Myrtle Della George OBrion of Portland, ME. She graduated from Deering HS, Portland ME in 1942, Westbrook Jr. College, and Portland, ME in 1944 and attended University of Texas, Austin, TX for two years. Jean was active for many years in 4-H and Farm Bureau at the local and state levels as well as the S. E. Mass Sheep Breeders Assoc., the AFS Student Exchange Program and the Cape Cod Cranberry Growers Association. Mrs Gibbs worked tirelessly for many years to promote the cranberry industry & products to the general public, creating and managing the Massachusetts Cranberry Festival and the Cranberry Connection. She was honored for her many contributions to the cranberry industry by the CCCGA upon her retirement in the late 1980’s. Additionally, she worked many years as a field supervisor for the USDA. A former resident of Siesta Key, FL for 12 years, she was active in local arts programs and a supporter of the Sarasota Arts Center. In 2004, she relocated to Lenoir City, TN where she lived with her daughter, Hilarie, and was an active member of the Tellico Art Guild. An accomplished artist, she worked from her home studio for the last 17 years of her life. She is survived by her daughters: Deborah G. Sellon and husband Loring (Skip) of W. Wareham, MA; Hilarie H Gibbs-Sykes and husband Mel of Lenoir City, TN; Christy G. Kendrick and husband Scott of Carver, MA; Victoria G. Folsom and husband Frederic of Sarasota, FL; three granddaughters: Kimberly-Anne Sellon and husband Joe Victor of Mimbres, NM; Elizabeth L. Sellon of W. Wareham, MA; Andrea B Pontz of Norfolk, VA, and brother-in-law Homer L Gibbs, Jr. of Southport, ME. A Memorial Service will be planned for spring 2008. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean's name, to either the CCCGA (attn. J. LeFleur, Exec. Joseph Henry Obie Price, age 78, of Farragut passed away Thursday, September 27, 2007 at St. Mary's Medical Center. Obie was a member of the Church of Christ. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Obie was owner of Armstrong Co. Automotive Paint. He was preceded in death by his parents, Millard and Elma Price of Temple, GA; sister, Delores Lindsey of Atlanta, GA. Survivors: Marjorie, wife of 54 years; children, Vicki and Ed Copeland of Cookeville, Joe Price, Allan and Karen Price, Brian and Lisa Price all of Knoxville; grandchildren, Ethan and Braden Copeland, Landon, Madison and Grayson Price and Jared, Jordan and Jacob Price. Booth, Stephen (Steve) Michael, age 18, of Lenoir City, passed away suddenly Wednesday, September 26, 2007. Steve attended Greenback School. He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Booth and grandmother, Sherry Law. William David Johnson, age 58, of Knoxville, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2007 at St. Mary's Hospital. David was of the Baptist faith. He was a devoted husband and father. David was preceded in death by his parents and brother. Survivors: wife of 36 years, Patricia; sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Stephanie Johnson, David and Misti Johnson; grandchildren, Tiffany, Jacob and Caleb Johnson. Ricky Lynn Range, age 40, of Lenoir City, passed away suddenly Thursday morning, September 27, 2007. He was a 1985 graduate of Lenoir City High School. Ricky was a former employee of Maremont Corp. for 17 years and was presently employed at TLC of Vonore. He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Colleen Range; grandparents, Dewey and Josie Range and Ella (Granny) Carmack. Survived by his father, George (Babe) Range of Lenoir City; sister, Brenda Green Glandon and Ronnie Peters of Columbia, S.C.; brother and sister-in-law, Eddie and Nancy Wayne Range of Lenoir City; niece, Amanda Smallen Busbee and husband, Jason of Columbia, S.C.; nephews, Tyler and Blake Range of Lenoir City; great niece and nephew, Haley and Logan Busbee of Columbia, S.C.; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
