Sandlin, Charles E. (Chuck), age 61, of Lenoir City, passed away Saturday, August 4, 2001 at the Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born and raised in Oklahoma City, OK. Chuck was a retired x- ray technician at Woods Memorial Hospital in Etowah. He served in the United States Air Force. He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer Thomas and Leona Dowda Sandlin. Chuck is survived by his wife of 30 years, Linda Sandlin; children, Ryan Sandlin, Dana Davis and husband Chris all of Lenoir City; grandchildren: Kaylen Sandlin, Tristen Davis, Linsie Davis and Bryson Davis; brother, Harold Sandlin of Houston, Tx.; 3 nieces and a nephew. McDaniel, Helen "Ruth" age 84, of Lenoir City, went home Monday evening, August 6, 2001, at her home. Ruth was a member of Bell Avenue Baptist Church. She was a retired inspector from Charles H. Bacon Company with more than 40 years of service. Ruth was an avid cook and seamstress. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Raymond Williams,Sr. and Robert Lee McDaniel; parents, Charlie and Laura Monday Moss; sister, Ruby Sherrill; brother, Charles Moss all of Lenoir City. Kruger, Ronald Dean, age 73,of the Abindon VA, formerly of Omaha NE, passed away early Tuesday morning August 7, 2001, at the Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol TN. Ron was a veteran of the Merchant Marines. He was retired from Kerr McGee Corp. in Oklahoma City after 44 years of service. Ron was a member of the Christian Church. He is survived by his wife, Temple Kruger; daughters, Kay Hupperts and Carolyn Kruger; sons, Jeff Kruger and Steve Kruger; step sons, Bob G. Roe and Roger A. Shadday, Merton A. age 76, of West Knoxville, passed away Tuesday evening, August 7, 2001, at Park West Hospital. Merton was an elder in the Presbyterian Church. He was a Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies in Knoxville. Merton was a veteran of World War II serving with the Army. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Connie Woods. Goodman, Rev. William Thomas (Tom), age 63, of Lenoir City, passed from this life on Saturday August 11, 2001 at the Park West Medical Center. Tom had long suffered from numerous illnesses.Tom was a retired Baptist minister. He was ordained January 11, 1976 at Gospel Light Baptist Church in Lenoir City. He served as assistant pastor of Beasons Chapel Baptist Church in Lenoir City and later pastored The Old Country Church in Sweetwater and Light House Baptist Church from which he retired. He drove school buses in Loudon and Knox County as well as working for Smith Chair Factory, Hartsook Realty and American Duralite. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Daniel Goodman and Mary Frances Goodman Decker Smith; step-father, R.L. Decker; sister, Sammie Jean Arden; mother-in-law, Josephine McMahan. Tom is survived by his wife of 45 years, Barbara McMahan Goodman; son, William (Billy) Goodman and wife, Martha; daughter, Patricia Leslie Clark and husband, David (Ike) Clark Jr.; grandchildren, Matthew and Heather Clark all of Lenoir City; step-grandchildren, Jerry Williams of Lenoir City and Bobby Jenkins of Loudon; brothers: Ivan Goodman and wife Betty, Dennis Goodman and Barbara and Emmitt Goodman all of Loudon; sisters: Agnes Clemmer of Calhoun, TN, Janice Decker Hicks of New York and Mary Kathy Hill of Florida. Beard, Richard Nelson, age 67, of Seymour, TN, formerly of Terre Haute, IN, died Tuesday morning, August 14, 2001, at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville, TN., following a brief illness. Dick was born in Indianapolis, IN to the late Norman and Marie Beard. He attended Rose Hulman Institute and Indiana State University in Terre Haute, IN. Dick was an active member of the Terre Haute Community Theatre for 30 years. He worked backstage, as an actor and served on the Board of Directors. Dick began working for the Merchants Savings Association in 1958, serving as president of the company in the 70's and 80's, prior to his retirement. In 1990 he and his wife, Manon, decided to move closer to the Smokey Mountains, an area they had visited and enjoyed many times. He settled in Sevierville for several years and finally in Seymour. Dick enjoyed working as a volunteer at the Sugarlands Visitor Center in Great Smokey Mountains National Park. He enjoyed good food, great literature and all kinds of music. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Manon; daughters, Ronda Krum and husband Jeff of Kansas City, MO, Lydia Gilpatrick and husband Jim of Atlanta, GA, Abby Filter and husband Greg of Indianapolis, IN,; 4 grandchildren. Sometimes wise and always witty, he will be missed by all. There will a memorial open house at the family home in Seymour, Saturday, August 18, from 2-4 p.m.. He was a former member of Concord Presbyterian Church. Hal was retired from Union Carbide Y-12 plant. He was a former employee of TVA and Knox Porcelain. Hal was a member of Choto Masonic Lodge # 253 F&AM, a former member of the Farragut Lions Club and past president of AARP. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Housley, Clyde Edgar of Friendsville, after 82 years on Earth, joined loved ones in Heaven on Thursday, August 16, 2001. Clyde was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Maryville. He was retired from Harrison Construction Company. Clyde was a veteran of the U. S. Army and served during World War II. Evans, Iva Mae Daniels, age 74, of Lenoir City passed away quietly at her home with her family present, Friday morning, August 17, 2001. She was of the Baptist Faith. Iva, along with her husband, Fate, operated Evans Boat Dock for 35 years. They also operated Riverside T Restaurant. Iva and her husband, Fate, was founder and owner of Feed My Children Missionary in Lenoir City for the past 7 years. Preceded in death by mother, Willie Dotson; father, James Daniels; sisters, Jewel Daniels, Barbara Daniels and Helen Jenkins; nephew, Jerry Daniels; and son-in-law, James Lee. Chaney, Emma Lou Rasar Adcox, age 83, of Lenoir City, passed away Saturday afternoon, August 18, 2001, at the Loudon Health Care Center. Emma Lou was a Charter member of Nelson Street Baptist Church. She helped raise money, cook meals for the volunteers that helped build the church, and was a faithful member until her marriage to Rev. Earl Chaney. Along with Rev. Chaney she ministered to several churches until his death, at which point Emma Lou returned to Nelson Street Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ernest Lee Adcox and Rev. Chaney; parents, Robert Elcaney Rasar and Margaret Thomas Rasar; 7 brothers. Orrin, Robert Sr., age 83 of Lenoir City passed away Friday morning, August 24, 2001 at the Baptist Healthcare Center. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 21, 1918. He graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1940 with a degree in civil engineering. He received a masters degree from the University of Tennessee in 1975 for environmental engineering. Bob was employed by T. V. A. during the building of Ft. Loudon Dam. He retired from Union Carbide after 35 years. He was a member of the Rotary Club. Bob enjoyed trout fishing, hunting and raising roses. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Agnes Orrin; son Robert C. Orrin, Jr. and wife, Martha Orrin of Lenoir City; daughter, Elizabeth A. Brown and husband, Dr. Douglas R. Brown of Dacula, Ga.; grandchildren, Tracy and Gail Orrin, Gretchen Orrin, Scott and Beth Brown, Mac and Amy Brown, Wesley Orrin, and Missy Orrin; cousin, Mrs. Marge Hasselbusch of Sarasota, Fl. Young, Eloise M., age 80, of West Knoxville, passed away Friday evening August 24, 2001 at the Farragut Health Care Center. Mrs. Young attended the University of Arkansas Monticello. She was a resident of Chattanooga for 35 years, before she and her husband moved to Knoxville to be near their son. Mrs. Young was a member of Church Street United Methodist Church, the Newcomers and the Welcome Wagon. While in Chattanooga, Mrs. Young was active in community and religious endeavors, serving many years as a volunteer at Memorial Hospital. She retired as Deputy Clerk for the Hamilton County Sessions Court. Mrs. Young is survived by her husband of 57 years, Harry F. Young, a member of the Arkansas Gazette and Chattanooga Times news staffs for almost 40 years; son, U. S. Army Reserve LT. Col. Franklin Young, a veteran of the Vietnam and Gulf Wars. Sponseller, Norman W., age 68, of the Tellico Village Community,formerly of Canton, Ohio, passed away Friday, August 24, 2001, at the Park West Medical Center. Norm was born in Canton September 1, 1932 to Glen and Hazel (Shatzer) Sponseller. A graduate of Middlebranch High School and attended Capital University. He served as Plain Township Trustee from 1962 to 1968 when he was elected Stark County Commissioner, an office he held for twenty years. He resided in Canton until October 1996 when he and his wife, Daryl moved to Tellico Village and became active in community activities. He served on the Tellico Village Home Owners' Assoc. Board of Directors as Government Liason for four years and the Tellico Village Property Owners' Assoc. Communication Advisory Committee. Norm was awarded the 2000 Tellico Village Area Government Service Award. Gov. Don Sundquist appointed him Colonel Aide de Camp in March 1998. He chaired the Loudon County 20 Year Growth Plan Coordinating Committee and served on the Chamber of Commerce's Education Committee, the County Geographical Information Systems Board and the Boys and Girls Club. Norm was a member of the Lenoir City Civitan Club and was featured in the Tellico Village newspaper in the "Movers and Shakers" column in April 1999. He attended St. Paul Lutheran Church in Vonore. Norm is survived by his wife, Daryl; daughter, Vickie Sponseller of Henderson, NV.; sons, Norman Steven Sponseller and wife, Beulah of Henderson, NV. and Scott Glen Sponseller of Canton, OH.; stepdaughters, Toni E. Lesowitz of Chicago, IL. and Mrs. Ron (Abby) Eibel of Paris, OH.; sisters, Mrs. Lloyd (Betty) Colvin of Canton, OH. and Mrs. Miriam Weirough of Tucson, AZ.; mother-in-law, Miriam Schwartz of Lauderhill, FL. Norm also leaves special friends, Chip and Tammy Miller of Lenoir City. Funeral services are being held in Canton. A memorial service will be held Friday, September 7, 2001 at 7 p.m. in the Tellico Village Community Church with Rev. Nancy Andrews officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Helton, Robert J., age 81, of Lenoir City, passed away Saturday evening at his home. Bob was a member of Silver Ridge Baptist Church. A fifty year member of Pipe And Steamfitters Local 102. A member of Avery Masonic Lodge #593 as well as the Scottish Rite, York Rite and Shriners. Bob was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Timmy Helton. Survived by his wife, Stella Helton; children: Joyce Phibbs, Joe E. Helton and Pat Embry; grandchildren: Donald W. Phibbs Jr., Joe T. Helton, Robbie Helton, Todd Helton, Scott Embry and Mike Embry; 11 great grandchildren; sisters, Inez Carroll and Iva Lane; brother, Charles Helton. Thomas, Mabel Stavely, age 93, of Knoxville passed away Monday morning, August 27, 2001 at the Farragut Health Care Center. She was born in Stewart County, TN March 21, 1908, wife of the late Buford E. Thomas and daughter of the late Joe and Minnie Parker Stavely. She was a member of Madison Street United Methodist Church in Clarksville, TN where she resided until 1992. Mrs. Thomas was a graduate of Austin Peay University and taught in Montgomery County schools from 1945 until she retired in 1973. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Country Women’s Club, Rook Club, Soda Club, Home Demonstration Club and the Clarksville-Montgomery County Retired Teachers’ Organization. She served as a volunteer at Clarksville Memorial Hospital for over 25 years. Mrs. Thomas was an avid gardner, known for her orchids and African violets. She landscaped and cared for the grounds at Smith-Trahern Mansion in Clarksville. In the 70's, she was instrumental in working with the Governor’s office to begin a wildflower planting program along interstate system. She was preceded in death by brothers, Robert and Frank Stavely. She is survived by daughter, Nelda Thomas Kersey and son-in-law, Mel Kersey of Loudon, TN; grandchildren, Sherri Harrell Tipton and Husband Charles of Memphis, Jill Harrell Wheeler and husband Jeff, of Kennesaw, Ga., Ben Harrell and wife Diana of Portland, OR; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Bess Lancaster, Dover, TN (currently residing in Waverly, TN) and Charley Stavely, Stewart, TN (currently residing in Winston Salem, NC). A Memorial Service will be held 4 p.m. Wednesday the Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel with Rev. Eddie Click Officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
