John Durward Brannon, age 77, of Lenoir city, passed away suddenly Saturday morning, August 26, 2000 at his home. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Jim Scarbrough Sunday School class. John graduated from the University of Florida and came to Lenoir City in 1949 to coach football and teach math at Lenoir City High School. He later coached baseball at Lenoir City and continued to teach until his retirement In 1987. John served in the U.S. Marines during WWII. He was a former sports editor for the Lenoir City Newspaper. During the summer he reported on tobacco allotments for farmers in Loudon County. He was preceded in death by his parents, John S. and Beth Brannon. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Lillian Brannon; step-mother Louise Brannon of Geneva, Ohio; brother, Selby Brannon and his wife Angela of Geneva, Ohio; nieces, Connie and Beth Brannon. Buchanan, Pauline Hamilton (Polly), age 86, of Lenoir City, passed away Friday afternoon, August 25, 2000, at Mt. View Assisted Living Center. Polly was a member of Sixth Avenue Church of God and Ladies Sunday School #25. She was employed with Emery Store from 1960 to 1965, J. W. Wilburn Hardware for 18 years and with Walmart for several years. Polly was a member of the Ladies Auxilary of American Legion Post #70. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Buchanan; a infant daughter; parents, George and Minnie Allen Hamilton; sisters, Mary Kate Lovelace and Lucille Kollock; brothers, Roy Hamilton, W. J. Johnson, Jessie F. III, age 55, of Knoxville, formerly of Vicksburg Mississippi, passed away suddenly Friday, August 25, 2000 at St. Mary's Hospital. Jessie was a tow boat operator for the majority of his life. Preceded in death by his father, Jessie F. Johnson Jr.; granddaughters, Jessica Lawson & Jenny Johnson. Survived by his wife, Bonnie Johnson; children and spouses, Jessie F. Jenkins, Richard Lee, age 36 of Lenoir City, passed away Saturday August 26, 2000, from injuries received from a fall. Pendleton, Mary Virginia Billings, age 84, of Lenoir City TN, passed away early Sunday morning August 27, 2000, at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville TN. Virginia was born March 13, 1916 in Thomasville Ga. She was the daughter of Clarence Herman Billings and Annie Estell Carter Billings. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister who died in infancy. In 1927 she moved, with her parents, from Atlanta Ga to Miami Fla. She attended Riverside Elementary School, Ada Merritt Jr. High School, and graduated from Miami Senior High School in June 1935. She graduated from Southern Business College, Miami Fla. in 1936. Virginia and Edgar Roscoe Pendleton were married in Riverside Baptist Church in Miami on October 2, 1938. She worked for several business firms in Miami. During World War II, worked as a Personnel Clerk with the Air Supply 1105th AAF Base Unit, CRBD, ATC, Miami Army Air Field from August 1944 until January 1946, when she was transferred to the Veterans Administration, Nautilus Hospital, Miami Beach Fla. She resigned in September 1946 after her husband returned from being overseas in Manila PI and Yokohama/Tokyo Japan with the Army. Virginia and Ed made a permanent move from Miami to Lenoir City in 1976. She was a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Lenoir City, and was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Lenoir City. She is survived by husband, Ed R. Pendleton; son, James Carter Pendleton of Dania Fla; two granddaughters and several great grandchildren, who reside in New Mexico. The family will receive friends from 1-2 P.M. Gladys had lived in Clearwater Florida for over 40 years until moving to Tennessee. She was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church in Clearwater and the Kings Daughters Sunday School Class. Giare, Kamla Devi, age 86, of Lenoir City Tennessee, formerly of Patiala, India, departed for heavenly abode, early Saturday morning April 1, 2000 at her sons home. Mrs. Kamla Giare was a member of the Hindu Temple in Lenoir City and her faith in God was instrumental in inspiring the formation of the Hindu Temple in this area. She was very active in the Temple activities, and in helping the poor, both in the United States and India. Mrs. Kamla Giare was preceded in death by her husband, Kishan Lal Giare. Louise was a very special, loving and caring woman, who will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. She noticed everyone, had no limit, and her life was a flame, that always remained lit. Smith, Willie Lou Stinnett, age 82, of the Cave Creek Community, Loudon passed away Monday morning, April 10, 2000 at U. T. Hospital. Willie was a member of Hilltop Baptist Church. Preceded in death by her parents, David Crockett Stinnett and Callie Mae Proaps Stinnett; brothers, Robert, Calvin, Lloyd and Haskell Stinnett. Survived by her husband of 63 years, Lum Smith; children and spouses, Fawn & Allen Mills, Lynn & Ruthie Louise Smith, Robert & Annie Smith all of Cave Creek ; Grandchildren, Roger Mills & wife Tracey, David Mills & wife Joanne, Jeff Smith & wife Joyce, Sherry Coffey &husband Mitch, Teresa Smith and Jason Smith; 12 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; sisters, Mary Alice Brown of Lenoir City, Margaret Burns of Kingston; several nieces and nephews. Selvidge, Florence Jones, age 92, of West Knoxville, passed away Monday evening April 10, 2000 at the Norris Mariner Nursing Home. Florence was of the Baptist faith. She was retired from Ashe Knitting Mill. Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Selvidge. Grandson, Roger Allison. Bailey was preceded in death by her great grandparents, Lloyd Barnett, Anna Jean Davidson, Olan and Agnes Underwood, Ed and Hulah Randolph. Lethgo, Maynard Alvin, age 79, of Lenoir City passed away Tuesday morning, April 11, 2000 at the Loudon Hospital. He was a member of Bell Avenue Baptist Church where he was choir leader for 40 years. Maynard was retired from Scovill Manufacturing Co. A veteran of W. W. II serving in the U. S. Navy. Preceded in death by first wife, Lillian Juanita Lethgo; daughter, Patsy Gail Brennan; parents, Frank & Laura Bell Lethgo; sisters, Cora McCarroll, Edith Flora, Ibbie Smith, Frances Lane, Ruth Johnson; brother, William Lethgo. He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Ella Brown Lethgo; son and daugher-in-law, Benny & Virginia Lethgo; grandchildren, Randy Lethgo, Richard Lethgo, Bari Brennan, Joey Brennan and Christopher Brennan; great grandchildren, Nicholas Scragg, Jodi Lethgo, Jake Lethgo and Zackery Lethgo; several nieces and nephews.
