Shubert, Irene Glass, age 83, of Lenoir City, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2002 at the Loudon Health Care Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Millard Shubert Sr.; sons, Millard Shubert Jr. and Leroy (Bo) Shubert; grandson, Michael (Bull) Shubert; twelve brothers and sisters. Irene is survived by her children: Richard Shubert and wife, Imogene of Lenoir City, Mary Smith and husband, David of Lenoir City, Nancy McMahan, Peggy Thompson and husband, Benny of Loudon; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great-great grandson; several nieces and nephews. Levine, Jack, age 76, of Knoxville, passed away Sunday evening, May 5, 2002, at NHC Health Care of Ft. Sanders. Jack was a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the Navy in the Naval Armed Guard. He worked for many years as an advertising consultant and had traveled extensively. Jack was survived by his wife, Marie Cole Levine. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the in the Cokesbury Center Asbury Chapel with Rev. Stephen DeFur and Carol Hollar, Director of Congregational Care, officiating. Button, Lloyd A., age 75, of the Tellico Village Community, Loudon, TN, formerly of Middlesex, NY, passed away Monday, April 8, 2002. Lloyd was former owner of Dudley Poultry, a Middlesex Town Justice, a Fire Chief of the Middlesex Hose Company, and an honorary Deputy Sheriff of Yates County, NY. His wife, Dorothy Waterman Button, preceded him in death. Survivors: son, Lloyd A. Button of Freehold, NJ; sisters, Maxine Oppelt of Canandaigua, NY and Dorothy Meath Merriman of Rushville, NY; brother, Clair (M.C.) Button of Costa Mesa, CA; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service at the Middlesex United Methodist Church is scheduled for Saturday May 18, 2002 at 1PM. Liu, Mai Shian, age 66, of Knoxville, TN, formerly of Highland Park, IL and Hsin-Chu, Taiwan, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning May 5, 2002 at University of Tennessee Memorial Hospital in Knoxville, TN. The journey took Mai as a young peasant girl in rural Taiwan to the some of the most prominent schools of world. She graduated from the National Taiwan University with a B.S. in Pharmacy, earned a M.S. in Pharmacology at the University of Montreal, and a PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Chicago. Her endeavors required persistence, hard work, and a fluency in Taiwanese, Japanese, Chinese, French, and English. She was a researcher and an assistant professor at the University of Illinois Medical School for over ten years after earning her doctorate. She resigned from a promising academic career to spend more time with her husband and two young boys. She later retired as a pharmacist from St. Theresa Hospital in Waukegan, IL in 1998 after twenty four years of service. Mai was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cheng-Huey and Mei Yang Su; and sister, Dr. Mei Quey Shih. Proaps, Bruce Alan - age 38 of Knoxville, passed away May 9, 2002 in Fort Payne, Alabama. Bruce was born October 31, 1963 in Loudon, TN He was employed by Midway Rehabilitation Center in Knoxville where he was a former employee of the year. He was the son of the late Robert R. Proaps Jr. and Virginia Proaps Holloway who resides in Narragansett, R.I. Bruce is survived by two brothers, Don Proaps and wife, Coralee and David Proaps; one sister, Helen P. Bryson and husband Jeffery; three nephews, Randy and Ronnie Proaps, Michael Bryson; two nieces, Sabrina Reeves and Jessica Proaps; great niece, Linsey Proaps; two step-sisters and faithful companion, his dog Tinky. Bea was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church. Mrs. Hopper was an avid and very accomplished pianist. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Lee Hopper and Pink Grubb, who was the father of her children; son, James Robert (Bobby) Grubb; sisters, Lillie Clough and Mattie Thomas. She was a longtime member of the Order of Eastern Star #188. A member and past officer of Scovill, Inc. Union. Lorene was retired from Scovill, Inc. after 27 years service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Vaughn; parents, John Blaine Gossage and Beulah Baker Gossage; sister, Ruby Gossage Way; brothers, Coy Gossage and Bert Gossage. Wampler, Bobby Joe, age 64, of Lenoir City went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at Parkwest Hospital. He was the beloved son of Joe and Agnes Norris Wampler who had preceded him in death. Those left behind were his brothers and sisters and their spouses: Harry Wampler and wife, Jennifer, Violet Wilburn and husband, Richard (Bud), Bennie Roach and husband, Wayne, Newell Grimes and husband, Leonard, Riley D. Fine, Robert H., age 74, of the Westel Community in Cumberland Co. passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. He was a retired cattle farmer. Bob owned and operated Fine's Electrical and Refrigeration Service in Roane Co. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the 43rd Infantry Division in the U. S. Army. He was well known in his community as a honorable hard worker. Bob will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Alvin Fine and Sarah Haynes Luttrell Fine; brothers, Joseph L. Fine, James M. Fine and Glen Edward Fine. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:45 p.m. Friday with funeral services to follow at 8 p.m. in the Click-Hawkins Chapel at 102 B Street, Lenoir City. Rev. Scott Wells and Rev. Bill Webb will officiate. Geiger, Arlene Elizabeth, age 62, of the Lenoir City, Avalon Community, passed away at home on Tuesday, May 14, following a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was born Arlene Elizabeth Naughton on November 20, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of the late Florence (McErlean) Naughton and the late James Naughton. Her childhood and school years were spent in the Chicago area. She was joined in marriage on October 1, 1960, to her high school sweetheart, Edward. Besides Chicago, they made their home in the Cleveland area and the West Bloomfield area of Detroit before moving to Hendersonville, North Carolina. They then moved to Tennessee to retire in the Avalon community. Arlene was a devout Catholic her whole life and most recently was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Farragut. She worked at various part time jobs, although her favorite and most important job was that of mother and homemaker. Arlene is survived by her loving husband, Edward, W. Geiger, 3 daughters and son-in-law, Tracy Lynn Geiger of Phoenix, AZ, Kelly Maureen Geiger of Pensacola, FL, Kimberly Ann and Robert W. Mansfield of Kalamazoo, MI; one grandson, Mitchell Edward Mansfield, sister and brother-in-law, Carl and Maureen Ott of Chicago and one nephew, Jeffrey Ott of FL. Arlene is also survived by her friends from every place she has lived, plus the new friends she made here in the Knoxville area. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Sunday with a Rosary to follow at 8 p.m. in the Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John Neumann Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 871 Weisgarber Road, Knoxville, TN 37909. Beal, Boyd Vernon Jr., age 55, of Knoxville, passed away suddenly Sunday May 12, 2002. Survivors: children, Stephanie Beal, Carmen Lawson, Linda Brown, Tricia Hillard and Danielle Beal; 13 grandchildren; sisters, Martha Bryant and Nancy Valentine; brother, William Beal; several nieces and nephews. Smallen, Margaret Griffitts, age 92, of Lenoir City, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2002 at Baptist Health Care Center. Margaret was a member of Central United Methodist Church. Retired from Bailey Brothers Laundry. She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Smallen; parents, Roy C. Griffitts and Louella Bryant Griffitts; 2 brothers; and 1 sister. Survived by nieces, Gayle McCallister of Lenoir City and Patricia Bunnell of Kentucky; nephews, Jerry Griffitts of Lenoir Ctiy and Jimmy Griffitts of Gray, TN The family will receive friends from 1-2:45 p.m. Saturday followed by Funeral services at 3 p.m. in the Click Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Mark Gooden and Rev. Doug Crowder will officiate. Burial will follow in the Lenoir City Cemetery. Barringer, Fred C., age 70, of Knoxville, passed away early Saturday morning, May 18, 2002, at the Loudon Health Care Center. Fred was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving the Army. He was a retired draftsman from T. V. A. Fred was an avid fisherman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Castro Barringer and Edna Hixon Barringer. Survivors: wife of 9 years, Mary Ann White Barringer; son, Jeff Barringer of Knoxville; step son, Vince Ballew and wife Camille of Michigan; step grandsons, Anthony and Alex Ballew; brother, Charles Barringer of Florida; sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Mel Watson of Missouri; special niece, Annette; mother-in-law, Mary Irene Rinadi of Knoxville. The family will receive friends from 3 to 3:45 p.m. Sunday followed by funeral services at 4 p.m. in the Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel with special friend Rev. Kenny Seal officiating. Sharp, Walter Edgar, age 86, of Knoxville, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2002 at the St. Mary's Medical Center. Walter was a veteran of W. W. II serving in the U. S. Army where he was wounded in Germany. He attended Dutch Valley Church of God and was retired from Cas Walker Grocery. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mable Lee Sharp; brother, Charles Sharp and sister, Rose Reeb. Walter is survived by his children: Paul Sharp and wife, Elizabeth, Linda Foust and husband, Larry, Carol Diane Clowers and husband, Mike all of Knoxville; 3 grandchildren; brothers, Elmer Sharp and Jack Sharp both of Knoxville; sister, Mable Stull of Florida; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Tuesday at Dutch Valley Church of God with funeral services to follow at 3 p.m. Rev. Jack Dean will officiate. Family and friends will proceed to the Greenwood Cemetery for graveside services and interment. Pallbearers will be: Jeremiah Clowers, Mike Sharp and Charles Orr. Flanagan, Steven West, age 28, of Lenoir City, passed away, Monday, May 20, 2002. He was an employee of Kirby Manufacturing. He was preceded in death by great grandfather, William Flanagan; grandparents, Cecil and Laura Coates. Survived by wife, Angie Flanagan; son, Dakota Flanagan; step-son, Michael Crabtree; parents, Danny and Dorothy Flanagan all of Lenoir City; grandparents, Arthur and Betty Flanagan; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
