Freels, Velma Magill, age 90, of Lenoir City, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2002 at Life Care of Athens. She was a member of Hopewell Springs Missionary Baptist Church. Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Harold C. Freels; daughter, Joyce Brown. She is survived by her children: Nancy Hachmann of Chattanooga, Bill Freels and wife, Sue of Farragut, Harold (Gene) Freels and wife, Brenda of Madisonville; nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; sisters, Gertrude Jenkins of Atlanta and Naomi Brummitt of Clinton; several nieces and nephews. Cooper, Connie Elbert, age 83, of West Knoxville, passed away early Monday morning August 26, 2002 at Park West Hospital. Connie was retired from the United States Navy with 25 years of service. He was also retired from the Knoxville News Sentinel. Survivors: wife of 58 years, Marjorie Hawkins Cooper; daughter, Constance Bradford of Farragut; son, Robert Cooper of Newport; grandchildren, April Bradford of Knoxville, Trisha Bradford Rhea and husband Kelly of Knoxville, Molly Cooper and Shane Cooper both of New Hampshire; brother, Donald Cooper of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews; Family and friends will gather 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery on Lyons View Pike for graveside with full military honors conferred by the U. Green, Tom Henderson, age 83, of Loudon, passed away suddenly Monday, August 26, 2002 at his home. Tom was a truck driver for Bacon Hosiery Mill for 39 years. He was a Christian of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by parents, Lee and Laura McCarroll Green; brother, Glen Green; brother and sister-in-law, Orville and Ruth Green; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sam and Ada Green Hamilton, Hubert and Gladys Green Thomas; sister-in-law, Carrie McCone Green; brother-in-law, Ben Walker. Hughes, Susan Stewart Umpleby, age 59, of Tellico Village Community, Loudon, passed away Wednesday morning, August 28, 2002 at her home. Susan was a member of Tellico Village Community Church where she was a Stephen Minister Leader and a member of Tellico Village New Villagers Board. She was retired from Christian Ministries of Delaware County, Muncie, Indiana where she was Executive Director. She was preceded in death by parents, Robert G. Umpleby and Mary Stewart Sheetz Umpleby; and brother, Jay Umpleby. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Gordon Hughes; children, Christopher W. Hughes of Greenville, S.C., Susannah H. Snyder and husband, Shawn of South Bend, IN, Patrick J. Hughes and wife, April of Muncie, IN; grandchildren, Hunter Patrick and Isabella Marie Hughes. Guinn, Lucille Kizer, age 96, of Lenoir City, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2002 at her home. She was a member of Cental United Methodist Church where she was one of the oldest living members and a member of the Keystone Sunday School Class. She loved to play bridge. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Guinn; granddaughter, Fran Ledbetter; and sister, Gladys Baker. Robinette, Robert Allan, age 68, of Kingston, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2002 at the Park West Hospital. He attended Smith Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Allan was retired from Martin Marietta Y-12 Plant. He served in the U. S. Army. He enjoyed restoring antique farm equipment. Preceded in death by parents, Isaiah and Velma Robinette. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Ann Robinette; step-children, Rev. Beaver Branham and wife, Bobbie of Lenoir City, Rick Phillips and wife, Shane of Kingston, Karen Coulter and husband, Randy of Lenoir City, Julie McGill and husband Scott of Kingston; several step-grandchildren; brothers, Grover Robinette and wife, Myrtle of Gulf Shores, AL, J. Davis, Michael Wayne, age 49, of Knoxville, passed away Friday morning, August 30, 2002 at his home. Michael was baptized on May 4, 1961 at Mt. View Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving as a crew chief in the United States Air Force. Michael was predeceased by his mother, Lorene Archer Johnson. He is survived by his sons, Michael Garrett Hicks and Daniel Norton both of Knoxville; daughter, Angel; grandson, Braden Michael; father, Garrett Davis of Toledo, Ohio; sister, Linda Hicks of Knoxville; brothers, Mark Honeycutt and wife, Melinda of New Tazewell, Larry Davis and wife, Linda, Billy Davis of all of Toledo, OH; several nieces and nephews. Elliott, Mary Frances age 95, formerly of Potomac, Maryland, passed away Saturday Morning, August 31, 2002, at the Farragut Health Care Center. Mary was a member of the Potomac United Methodist Church. She established the Happy Hearts Program, in which children make get well cards to be distributed to other children that are critically ill. The program started at Potomac United Methodist and then spread to churches across the country. Mary received special recognition from the Pen Women in 1997 for establishing Happy Hearts. born in Mt. Ranier, Maryland, Mary moved to Georgetown (DC) at age 12. She graduated Western High School class of 1924 in Washington, DC and received their life time achievement award. She graduated Wilson Teachers' College and the University of Maryland, studying communications. She taught in the D.C. Public Schools for 25 years. She pioneered creative techniques in Elementary Education via demonstrations in the classroom for teacher groups. She produced a children's story time radio show and one of the first children's television programs. Upon retirement from teaching, she moved to Daytona Beach, Florida, where she became an artist. Her work has been placed in private collections in Washington, South Carolina, New York, Florida, Sweden, Denmark, England and Norway. She moved to Potomac, Maryland in 1975, spending her summers painting in Maine. She came to Knoxville in 2001. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Jesse and Virgil Elliott. Survivors: sister, Mildred E. Berl of Washington, D.C.; sister-in-law Birgit Elliott of Longs, SC; nephew Herbert E. M. Berl and wife Mary of Knoxville; niece Marianne Oystese and husband Brynjulv of Oslo, Norway; niece Janet Berl Burman and husband George of Syracuse, NY; nephew Robert M. Sexton, Gordon N., age 89, of Lenoir City, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2002 at his home. Gordon was a member of the Presbyterian Church. He was a retired inspector with The Department of Energy and served in the pacific with the United States Army during World War II. Gordon was an avid bowler and a former Sr. Olympic National Title Holder in bowling. He was preceded in death by his parents, Othenal and Elizabeth Sexton; sister, Agatha Hampton; brothers, Fred and Jim Sexton. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lois Dunn Sexton; children: Dana Freshour of Lenoir City, Terri Tallent of Loudon and Nanette Fritts of LaPlace, LA.; 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; sister, Linda Evans of Houston, TX; several nieces and nephews. Vaughn, Gerald Lynn, age 55, of Lenoir City, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2002 at the Parkwest Hospital. Gerald was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints. A retired construction worker. He was preceded in death by mother, Cora Lee Vaughn; sister, Patricia Ann Vaughn. Pierce, Virginia Wolff Clark (Ginny) passed away Sunday, December 1, 2002 at Park West Medical Center after a long illness of congestive heart failure. She was a native of Pittsburgh. She was a current member of Faith Lutheran Church and a long-time former member of Messiah Lutheran Church, serving on Church Council, Altar Guild, Pastor Advisory Committee, representative on the board of Williams-Henson Home for Children, Contact Teleministries for 11 years and as a volunteer in several other capacities. She and her husband were avid travelers, visiting over 60 countries on 6 continents. She loved sports, golf, tennis and bowling and was a member of Fox Den Country Club for 33 years. She was also a member of several local bridge clubs. She received her degree from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, and was employed by Gimbels of Pittsburgh prior to enlisting in the Women's Army Corps. She served three and one half years during World War II specializing in procurement while in the states and in Graves Registerarion France, achieving the rank of captain. She last worked for Millers as personnel manager, opening their West Town Mall Store. She is survived by her husband, Ralph; son, Gregory H. Clark of Atlanta, GA; stepsons, Russell Pierce and family of Brighton, CO, and Paul Pierce and family of Athens, TN; stepdaughter, Wendy Valentine of Kingston, TN; sister, Oliffe Leix; and brother, Dr. Regis Wolff, both of Pittsburgh; sister-in-law, Jean Wolff of Atlantis, FL; several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Christopher W. Clark, daughter, Cynthia Clark, previous husband, Hugh Clark, mother and father Charles and Anna Wolff of Pittsburgh, sisters, Kathryn McDonaugh and Mary Grace Divers of Pittsburgh, and brother, Dr. Charles R. Green, Daney R., age 72, of Lenoir City, passed away December 1, 2002 at his home. He had fought a battle with cancer for 3 1/2 years. He was of Baptist faith. Preceded in death by father, David D. Green; mother, Judy Stella Johnson Green; sisters, Josephine Harris, Kathleen Headrick and Ellen Casey. Moats, Carl R., age 79, of Lenoir City, passed away Monday, December 2, 2002 at his home. He was a member of Sixth Avenue Church of God. Carl owned and operated Little M Market #2. He was a 50 year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union #760 in Knoxville and had worked mainly for T. V. A. A veteran of W. W. II serving in the U. S. Navy on Boganville Island in the South Pacific. Carl was an avid Nascar fan. He was preceded in death by son, Hoyt W. Moats; parents, Lon and Daisy Moats; brothers, Bonnie, Glenn, Gene and Ray; sisters, Clara, Helen and Elsie. Survived by his wife of 56 years, Glenn U. Braun, Mildred C. (Millie), age 89, of Farragut, TN formerly of Rochester, NY and Toledo, OH passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2002 at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville, TN. Millie was also a former member of Young Matrons in Toledo, OH. She attended All Saints Catholic Church. Millie enjoyed sewing, knitting, and was a loving mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Maxwell Faustman and Cecelia Faustman. former husband, Albert Braun, and her only sibling, Evelyn Simpson. Survivors: daughters Marilyn Braun of Atlanta, GA, Barbara Yosick and husband, Paul of Knoxville; son, Bob Braun and wife, Joan of Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Matthew, Maggie and Bailey Braun, Gina and Mark Yosick and Julie Yosick Cutler. Eleanor was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. She was a former high school teacher in Pennsylvania. Eleanor was an avid hiker and was a wonderful artist. Weaver, Cecil H., age 97, of Knoxville, formerly of Bristol, passed away suddenly Friday afternoon December 6, 2002 at Park West Hospital in Knoxville. Cecil was of the Presbyterian faith. He was retired from Davis Piping Company. He was an avid fisherman. Cecil was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie W. Weaver. Survivors: daughter, Phyllis A. Calhoun of Mulberry, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Marvin (Sonny) and Ellen Weaver of Knoxville, with whom he made his home for the last 16 years; grandchildren, Barbara Watters of Savannah, GA, Marvin Weaver Jr., Lynn Wright, Charles Escue, Emily Escue, Jacob and Tom Weaver all of Knoxville; 7 great grandchildren and a great great grand daughter; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel. Family and friends will gather at 2 p.m. Monday at East Lawn Memorial Park in Kingsport for graveside services and interment with Rev. A. J. Crawford officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 900 East Hill Ave., Suite 240, Knoxville, TN 37915. Gillis, Alberta Christine Littleton, age 78, of Lenoir City, passed away Saturday morning, December 7, 2002 in Oklahoma City. She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Lenoir City and a former employee of Care Inn in Loudon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Gillis; sons, Charles William and Dan Monroe Gillis; brothers, Curtis and Edward Littleton; parents, Wiley P. and Lena Fritts Littleton; sisters: Louise Stinnett, Elizabeth Wilson and Vivian Littleton; infant twin great grandsons. Alberta is survived by her son, Curtis E. Gillis of Lenoir City; daughter, Mary Lou Myers and husband, O.J. of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren: Christy Glover and husband, Kevan, Mike Gillis and wife, Kandace, Daniel Gillis and wife Tonya all of Loudon, Michelle Walls and Steven West both of Oklahoma City; eight great grandchildren; sister, Irene Norman of Lenoir City; many nieces and nephews and special friend, Patricia Anderson of Loudon. The family will receive friends from 5-6:45 p.m. Monday followed by funeral service at 7 p.m. Monday in the Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Doug Henson officiating. Family and friends will gather at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Lenoir City Cemetery for graveside services and interment. Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City is serving the family of Alberta Gillis.

Gregory, Ray, age 82, of Lenoir City, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2002 at the Loudon Health Care Center. He was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church. Ray retired from Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant. He served during World War II in the United States Army. He was a member of American Legion Post 70. Ray was active with Avery Masonic Lodge F&AM 593 and was a 32nddegree Scottish Rite. He was preceded in death by his parents, Izra Lee and Iva Jane Sparks Gregory and his brother, Asa Gregory. Ray is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mae Gregory; sister, Oca Crain of Niota; brother, Bob Gregory of Sweetwater; several nieces and nephews and many special friends. The family will receive friends from 6-7:45 p.m. Monday followed by a Masonic Service at 8 p.m. conducted by Avery Masonic Lodge. Family and friends will gather at Click Funeral Home by 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and proceed to the Loudon Co. Memorial Gardens for a 2 p.m. graveside service. Rev. Tony Collins and Rev. Walter Hicks will officiate. Pallbearers will be : Bernard Bostic, Homer Lee, Wayne Pierce, Melvin Pressley, C.W. Holland, and Dewey Purkey, Honorary Pallbearers will be: J.D Click, Clarence Cusick, Rousseau Browder, Lee Ellis, Gerald Campbell, Calvin and Van Shaver. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Highland Park Baptist Church Building Fund or the Charity of your choice. Oslizly, Thelma Faulkner (Granny O), age 91, of Lenoir City, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2002 at Parkwest Medical Center. She was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church. Preceded in death by her husband, Master Sgt. John Oslizly; son, Rev. Paul Faulkner, daughters and sons-in-law, Delores and Jim Underwood, Barbara and Bob Light; grandson, Mike Underwood. Thelma is survived by her son, Roger Oslizly of Delaware; special daughter-in-law, Barbara Faulkner Rogers of Lenoir City; grandchildren: Steve Underwood, Bill Faulkner, Connie Norton, Sandra Harvey and Amy Faulkner all of Lenoir City, Kevin, Kelley and Kasey Light all of Georgia, several great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City. Friends may also call at the home of granddaughter Connie Norton in Lenoir City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m Tuesday in the Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Frank Parris officiating. Burial will follow in the Lakeview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Gus Faulkner, Don Turner, Mike Harvey, Randy Norton, Jason Lankford and Chris Smith. Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City is serving the family of Thelma Faulkner Oslizly.
