Darrell Green (Gip) Vanzant Sr., age 51, of the Solway Community, Knoxville, passed away peacefully at his home Tuesday morning, April 4, 2006 with his family by his side. Darrell was an active member of Cave Creek Baptist Church in Roane County. He was a Vietnam Era Veteran serving with the U S Army. Darrell was employed with Remotec in Clinton. He was an avid outdoorsman, his specialities being White Tail Deer, Turkey, and large mouth bass. He treasured spending time with his family and many friends. Darrell was preceded in death by his mother, Sally Vanzant. Dr. Robert W. (Bob) Frazier, age 62, of Farragut passed away suddenly Tuesday morning, April 11, 2006 at his home. Bob was a member of Concord United Methodist Church. He was principal of Farragut Intermediate School for 33 years. He had received the Knox County PTA Principal of the Year Award, Tennessee State PTA Principal of the Year Award, NAESP National Distinguished Principal Award, United States Department of Education Blue Ribbon School of Academic Excellence Award and was Past President of Tennessee Association of Elementary and Middle School Principals. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Albert R. Myrick and Pearl Sharp Frazier Myrick. Survivors: wife, Ruth Ann Frazier; children, Robert W. Frazier Jr., Dr. J. Mary Jean Miller, age 49, of Lenoir City, died on Monday, April 10, 2006. Mary Jean had worked at Carboloy in Lenoir City for almost 20 years as a System Support Specialist. While growing up in Powell, Mary Jean attended Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church with her family. After moving to Lenoir City, she joined the 1st Presbyterian Church of Lenoir City. Mary Jean graduated from Powell High School and the University of Tennessee. A member of Primitive Baptist Church of Lenoir City. Tommy retired from Charles H. Bacon Hosiery Mill after 47 years service. He was a veteran of W. W. II serving in the U. S. Air Force. Lemons, Ronald Alan “Ronnie”, age 52, of Loudon, passed away Monday, April 10, 2006 at his home. He was of the Baptist Faith. A member of IBEW Local #166 and was an electrician by trade. Ronnie was an avid hunter and outdoors man. His great sense of humor will be missed. Preceded in death by parents, Dennis Ray Lemons and Edith Moore Lemons. Wilcox, Charles E., age 85, of Lenoir City, passed away Wednesday morning April 12, 2006 at his home. Charles was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church and the Men’s Sunday School Class. He was a veteran of W.W.II serving the U.S. Army. He was wounded in combat and awarded the Purple Heart. Charles was one of the first to land on Normandy Beach. A member of American Legion Post #70 and D.A.V. Post #1090. He was retired from Rust Engineering and was a member of Teamsters Local #519. Preceded in death by his parents, James Taylor and Amelia Andrews Wilcox; sisters, Nelle Spradling, Nora Hartwell, Lil Souder, Linda Mills, Thelma Haywood, Cora Webster and Rose Johnson; brothers, Bill and Noah Wilcox. Thelma Mae Bolt Kirkland, of Lenoir City, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2006 at Park West Medical Center. Thelma was a member of Hensley’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church. She worked in the Lenoir City Hosiery Mill for several years before becoming a full-time, devoted wife and mother. Larry Eugene Powell, age 73, of Knoxville, passed away suddenly Friday morning, April 14, 2006 at his home. Larry was retired from the United States Air Force with 20 years of service as a jet engine mechanic. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Elks Lodge of Louisiana, MO. Larry was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed golfing, boating and camping with his family and friends. Larry was an avid musician and enjoyed playing the drums. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Florence Powell, brother, Jerry Powell and granddaughter, Megan Anne Knock. Kempher, Mary Jeanette, age 85, of Tellico Village Community, Loudon, formerly of Bella Vista, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2006. She was a member of Tellico Village Community Church. Mary served in the Women’s Army Air Corp, and was retired from the U. S. Civil Service. Bill was the owner of Continental Coast Trucking Company in Holly Ridge, NC. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Lenoir City. Bill moved to Hampstead, NC in 1970. Gregory K. Maples Sr., age 75, of Knoxville, TN, passed away Tuesday evening, April 25, 2006 at his home. Greg was born July 27, 1930 in Middlesboro, KY. He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and a member of the Lamda Chi Alpha Fraternity. Greg was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving with the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 in the 101st Airborne Division. He was a Kentucky Boy Scout Commissioner, a Kentucky Colonel, and Vice President of the Kentucky Jaycees. Greg was a CLU in the insurance business for 38 years. He was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church and was an usher for 20 years. Greg was a member of the Concord Yacht Club. Kenny Wayne Dougherty, age 59, of Farragut, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday afternoon, April 25, 2006 at home. Kenny was a Christian. He was retired from ORNL. He was a veteran of the National Guard during the Vietnam War. Kenny enjoyed gospel music and reading. He was a loving father and grandfather. Survivors: parents, Everett R. and Hazel Dougherty; mother, Helen Wade; children, Michael Dougherty, Bernadette Hammond, Matthew Dougherty DO; grandchildren, Emma Dougherty and Ashton Hammond; brothers, Warren, Jimmy and John Wade all of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews. Rolen Earl Branch, age 78, of Lenoir City, formerly of Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at his home. He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. Earl retired from Carpenters Union Local #686. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving in the 1st Calvary Division in W. W. II and Korea. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post #70 and the D.A.V. Preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lizzy Branch; brother, Henry Branch; sister, Martha White; niece, Debbie Branch; nephew, Chester Branch and son-in-law, George McCurry.
