Smith, Naomi M., age 85, of Lenoir City, passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2001 at the Park West Hospital. Naomi and Fate formerly lived in Barbourville, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fate Smith; father and mother, Jimmy and Elizabeth McCreary; and 4 brothers. Hodge, Doyal H., age 81, of Knoxville, passed away Tuesday November 27, 2001 at the family home. He was a member of Lonsdale Christian Church. A veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Army and was retired from Bacon and Company. Preceded in death by mother, Ada Hodge; father, Jonas Hodge; and sister, Pauline Hodge. Survived by wife, Reba Johnson Hodge; children: Pat Cox of Knoxville, Marc Hodge of Bluff, Utah, daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Joe Tuggle; son and daughter-in-law, Doyal and Cindy Hodge; three grandchildren, Samantha Cox, Morgan Hodge and John W. Weich, Charles, age 84, of Farragut, TN, formerly of Cincinnati, OH, and Inverness, FL, passed away Thursday morning, November 29, 2001 at Park West Hospital in Knoxville. Charles was of the Catholic faith. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the Navy in the Pacific and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. Charles was preceded in death by his wives, Peg and June Weich; daughter, Patricia Weich. Rogers, Henry Leo, age 77, of West Knoxville passed away Wednesday evening November 28, 2001 at Park West Hospital in Knoxville, TN. Henry was a veteran of World War II serving with the Navy. He was a retired building manager with the New Orleans Public Service. He was preceded in death by parents, Henry Washington Rogers and Marylee Powe Rogers; brother, Jimmy Rogers. Harmon, Charles E. (Charlie), age 68, of Farragut, passed away Thursday morning, November 29, 2001 at U.T. Medical Center. Charlie was a member of New Hopewell Baptist Church but had recently attended Virtue Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was retired from South Central Bell with over 30 years of service. Charlie was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was an avid supporter of Farragut High School Football. Survivors: wife, Mary E. Harmon; son, Rocky Harmon of Farragut; mother, Margaret Witenbarger; brother, Douglas Harmon both of Knoxville. Carter, Francis Ewen, Jr. (Pete) passed away at the family home November 29, 2001. Mr. Carter was born January 27, 1912 in Baltimore, Maryland and moved to Tennessee in 1942 as a powerhouse superintendent with TVA for the construction of Fort Loudon Dam. He and his family lived in Lenoir City until 1960, then moved to Knoxville where he was in the heating and air conditioning business until his retirement. He was a charter member of Farragut Presbyterian Church and loved and supported it throughout his life. Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Frances Stewart Carter; mother and father, Elsie S. Carter and Francis E. Carter, Sr.; sisters, Elsie C. Fisher and Marguerite V. Carter; brother, Louis E. Carter. He is survived by brother, Robert C. Fisher and wife Helen of Yorba Linda, CA; by daughters, Elsie C. Testement and husband Tom of Knoxville, TN; Marguerite (Reet) Campbell and husband, Hop, of Pipe Creek, TX; Ann C. Welch of Knoxville, TN; Sandra A. Jefferies of Phoenix, AZ; sons Francis E. Carter, III and wife Penny of Knoxville, TN; F. Edward Carter and wife, Sally, of New Bedford, MA; Jon M. Carter and wife, Jenny, of Los Angeles, CA. "Pa Dudley" was loved and will be missed by all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Carter was an avid outdoors man who loved hunting, camping, and hiking in all of the mountains of East Tennessee. He was a walking history and teachings of the region. Mr. Carter was a Boy Scout leader of Troop 46 at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church for 27 years. During this time he had 47 scouts attain the rank of Eagle Scout. He was also the Chairman of the Eagle Court of Citizenship for 25 years. During his tenure, he examined and approved 280 scouts for the rank of Eagle Scout. He was also a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. Mr. Carter always believed Boy Scouts helped shape good moral citizens. He taught and conducted Safe Gun and Safely classes for the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency for 11 years. In Honor of his memory, Mr. Carter has requested that his Boy Scouts, Eagle Scouts and many friends contribute to the Memorial Fund, c/o Boy Scouts of America, P.O. Box 61885, Knoxville, TN 37950-1885. This fund will enable underprivileged boys to attend summer camp. Jones, Robert Michael age 42 of Knoxville passed away Thursday, November 29, 2001. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Concord and recently attended Calvary Baptist Church in Lenoir City. Mike was an employee of First Utility Water District where he was Locator Supervisor. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Axie and Bill Davenport, Catherine and Richard Jones; and uncle, Joe Davenport. McCook, Thomas Leslie, age 84, of Lenoir City, formerly of Knoxville and Greeneville, passed away Thursday morning May 3, 2001, at U.T. Hospital. Leslie was born May 23, 1916, in Gainesville Florida, to McKendree and Leola Sydboten McCook. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lenoir City. Leslie graduated from Knoxville High School and attended U.T. He was retired from International Mineral and Chemical Co. Leslie was a veteran of World War II serving with the Army in both the Pacific and European Theaters. Newman, Kirsten Berg, age 32 of Farragut TN, died May 3, following her courageous battle with cancer. Kirsten's home is in Farragut, where she was a member of First Farragut United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Farragut High School, studied at MTSU, Florida Southern University, the University of Tennessee, and graduated from Roane State College in the School of Nursing. Kirsten was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Miles Goosmann II, and sister, Jenny Berg. She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Newman, who is employed by Tennessee Air National Guard; 20 month old daughter, Emily Cottrell Newman; mother and step father Karen and Ronald Daves, brother Chip Daves, all of Farragut; father and step mother, Robert L. and Alyce Berg; brothers, Jacob and Jonathan Berg all of Clearwater, Florida; maternal grandmother Jeannette Cottrell of Farragut.. He was retired from TVA as a pipefitter and was a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local #102. Conner, Maria, age 76, of Knoxville TN, formerly of Fletcher NC, passed away Thursday Evening May17, 2001 at her home. Maria was preceded in death by her husband, William Glenn Conner. Survivors: daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Jan Williams of Knoxville; grandson, William Sean Bagwell of Fletcher; sister, Hilda Labitsch of Germany; nephew, Gerd Mueller of Germany. Johnson, Betty, age 84, of Loudon passed away Saturday morning May 19, 2001, at Wood Presbyterian Home. Betty was a charter member of Nelson Street Baptist Church, but had recently attended the Church of God. She was preceded in death by parents, John and Pearl Presley; husband, Fred S. Johnson; daughters, Shirley Mae Cummings Burns and Mary Nell Cummings. Survivors: daughter and son-in-law,Linda and Tommy White of Paint Rock; grandchildren, Violet Gwen Burns of Toledo OH, Fred Plemons of Loudon, Mike White of Mesa AZ and Bobby White of Paint Rock. 11 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; sisters, Alma Phillips of Oklahoma and Alice Morgan of Lenoir City; brother, Avery Stinnett of Kingston; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Hawkins Chapel with Rev. A.J. Crawford officiating. Interment will follow in the Lake View Cemetery. Vaughn, Charles F. Jr., age 74, of Lenoir City passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2001 at the Loudon Hospital. He was a member of Kingston Pike Baptist Church. Retired from X-10 plant. Junior was a U. S. Navy veteran serving in W. W. II. A member of Avery Masonic Lodge #593 F & AM and the Scottish Rite. He was an avid fox hunter. Preceded in death by parents, Charles F. Vaughn Sr. and Fannie; sister, Ethel Littlefield; brothers, Fred Vaughn and Walter Vaughn. Survived by his wife of 50 years, Ethel (Tootsie) Vaughn; daughter, Donna Edmonds and husband, Ray of Lenoir City; granddaughter, Elizabeth (Beth) Courtney and husband, Jimmy of Lenoir City; sisters, Helen Ratledge and husband Ralph of North Carolina, Bunny Webb of California; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Ed Williams. The family received friends from 6 to 7:45 p.m. Wednesday in the Click Funeral Home Chapel with funeral services to follow at 8 p.m. with Rev. Ronny Jones and Rev. Junior McCloskey officiating. A masonic service will follow the funeral conducted by Avery Masonic Lodge. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday May 17, 2001 at Loudon County Memorial Gardens with full military honors conferred by the East Tennessee Veteran Honor Guard. Eichelberger, Cary Daniel age 38 of the New Midway Community, Kingston, passed away suddenly Saturday evening, May 19, 2001, at Loudon Hospital. Cary was a devoted husband, father and son. He was a member of New Midway Baptist Church. Cary was an employee of Pratt Masonry. He was an avid deer hunter and NASCAR fan. Survivors: wife of 13 years, Annette Eichelberger; children, Cory, Vanessa and Shayna Eichelberger of the home, Casey Eichelberger of Monroe LA; father, Leroy Eichelberger of Kingston; mother and step father, Sissie and Norm West of Lenoir City; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kevin and Sheri Eichelberger of San Antonio TX, Craig and Amy Eichelberger of Loudon; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City. The body will lie in state from 12 until 2 p.m. Wednesday at New Midway Baptist Church with funeral services to follow at 2 p.m. Rev. Herbert Vandergriff and Rev. Eddie Click officiating. West, Jack, age 80, of New Providence Community, Loudon passed away Monday evening, May 21, 2001 at the Loudon Hospital. He attended New Providence Baptist Church. Jack was a retired construction worker. He was an avid fisherman and lure maker. Preceded in death by wife, Jennie Lee West; son, Tony Dan West; and parents, James W. Sr. and Molly West. Survived by son, Joe Paul West of Loudon; brothers, James W. West Jr. and wife, Ruth, Jimmy Ray West, and Calvin West and wife, Janice all of Loudon; several nieces and nephews; many friends. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:45 p.m. Wednesday with funeral services to follow at 8 p.m. in the Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Caldwell Sr., Rev. Tony Bandy and Rev. Walters, Delmar Andrew Jr., age 73, of Knoxville, TN, formerly of Sterling Heights, Michigan and Coshocton,Ohio, passed away Wednesday morning May 23, 2001, at his home. Del was born on February 5, 1928 in Canton, OH. He was a graduate of Coshocton High School where he played football. Del was a member of Concord United Methodist Church in Knoxville and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was retired from Allied Chemical and Dana Corp. in Knoxville. Del was a member of Hazel Park Masonic Lodge #570 F&AM in Hazel Park, MI. He was a veteran of the U S Air Force and was a World Champion Yo Yo Player. He put a smile in the heart, that showed on the faces, of so many people, in so many places. Del was preceded in death by his father, Delmar Andrew Walters Sr. and step father, Pedro Flores. Survivors: wife of 49 years, Kathryn Marie Walters; daughters and sons-in-law, Shelly and Brian Mallon of Michigan, Christy and David Newman of Knoxville; son, Kevin Walters of Knoxville; granddaughters, Alisha and Bre'Anne Mallon both of Royal Oak, MI; grandsons, Blake, Brandon and Ben Newman all of Knoxville; mother, Edria B. Bainter, age 92, of Knoxville. The family will receive friends from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Concord United Methodist Church with memorial service immediately following. Rev. Nathan Malone officiating. A private entombment service will follow in the Church Columbarium. Grandchildren will serve as pall bearers.
