Smelser, Charles W., age 71, of Kingston, TN, formerly of Boca Raton, FL and Bloomfield Hills, MI passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2003 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was a member of Bradbury United Methodist Church. Retired from IBM as an engineer. Charles was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U. S. Navy on the U.S.S. Quincy. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Pontiac, Mi and Kingston, TN. Preceded in death by parents, Mary Jane and W. E. Smelser; and son, James Robert Smelser. Survived by wife of 40 years, Jill Dunlop Smelser; children, Laura Weiss of Atlanta, GA, Steven Smelser and wife, Susan of Atlanta, GA., Ann Smelser of Knoxville and John Smelser and wife, Roshaunda of West Palm Beach, FL.; grandchildren, Joshua, Sarah, Mariah, Rica, Tasia and William; brothers, Richard Smelser and Robert Smelser; sister, Winnie Smelser; several nephews and a niece. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Benjamin F. Dockery. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #459. She was retired from the Isotope Sales Office at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Potter, James Paul, age 79, of Lenoir City, passed away Friday evening, February 21, 2003 at the Ft. Sanders Loudon Medical Center. He was a member of Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church. A retired welder with Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local 102. J.P. served with the United States Marine Corp. First Division during World War II. He and his family formerly resided along Smith Road at Fox Den where he was an avid participant with the local foxhunters group. Preceded in death by parents, George and Gertrude Potter along with ten brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife 55 of years, Etta Morris Potter; son, Bruce Potter of Lenoir City; daughter, Paula Triplett and her husband, John currently residing in India; grandchildren: Patricia and Amanda Triplett, Jeniffer, Alyssa and Jordan Paul Potter; several nieces and nephews.. Jerry served in the United States Army and worked in the concrete industry. He was preceded in death by his father, John Calvin Houston Sr. and his sister, Norma Gayle Chandler. Eleanor was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. She was a former high school teacher in Pennsylvania. Eleanor was an avid hiker and was a wonderful artist. Gerry, a decendant of Campbell Station founder, David Campbell, was very active in genealogy, including the Heritage Books for Loudon, McMinn, Monroe and Roane Counties. Bill obtained his Undergraduate Degree from Tulane University, received his Masters Degree from Georgia Tech University and his Doctorate Degree from University of Alabama. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy serving in the Korean War. He retired as Chairman of the Board from Foster Wheeler Corporation. Bill was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection.
