J. Porter Campbell, of Lenoir City, passed away Monday, February 5, 2007 at Loudon Health Care Center. Porter was born July 13, 1915 in Lenoir City and was a grocer there for a number of years before and immediately after serving in the Pacific with the Army during W. W. II. He lived on East Second Avenue in Lenoir City and retired from Security Mills after 35 years. Porter was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Past Master of Avery Lodge #592 F & AM, member of Rotary Club and Civitan Club. His joy was his family and he had many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Ezra and Annie Campbell. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Mary Ellen, who lives at Loudon Health Care; daughter, Ann Campbell and granddaughter, Stephanie of Murfreesboro; son, Jim Campbell and daughter-in-law, Robin of Greenback; and sister, Mary Annie Campbell of Lenoir City. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church with funeral services to follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Gary Baker officiating. Nadia Churyuk, age 18 of Lenoir City, passed away Thursday morning, February 8, 2007 in an automobile accident. Nadia was a graduate of Lenoir City High School and was attending Pellissippi State. Glenn Johnson, age 86, of Lenoir City, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2007. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. Glenn retired from Maremont Corporation in Loudon. He was a veteran of W. W. II serving in the European Theatre with the U. S. Army and later serving with the National Guard. He was a 50 year member of Avery Masonic Lodge #593 F & AM. He was preceded in death by parents, Gary and Etta Johnson; brothers, Wesley Johnson, Hughey Johnson and Jarvis Johnson; sisters, Inez Everette and Narcy Swafford; uncle, Walt Johnson. Helen L. Smith Saylor, 92, of Lenoir City, departed for her heavenly home on the 8th of February,2007, from Shannondale in Knoxville. She was a previous resident of River Oaks, and a member at Calvary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents Earl Kuhlman and Emma Bradford Anderson Smith; husband Richard J. Saylor; sister Dorothy S. Jett and son Richard J. Saylor, Jr. Survived by daughter-in-law Jane Bogus Saylor; grandsons: Chris and wife Sandra Saylor, and Richard J. Saylor, III (Trey); great-grandsons Corey and Lucas Saylor, all of Lenoir City; sister: Mrs. Charles (June) Watson; brothers: Wayne and wife Eleanor Smith, and Jim and wife Vicky Smith, all of Knoxville. Helen was a graduate of Knoxville High School, Class of 1931. She was an accomplished seamstress, cook, and secretary, having retired from Union Carbide (K-25) after 32 years of service. Mary Katherine Smith, age 81, of Knoxville, formerly of Concord, passed away Friday evening, February 9, 2007. A member of First Baptist Concord, she was very involved with the home bound ministry. Katherine was the first female butcher with A&P and was a member of Amalgamated Meat Cutters of America local #405. She was a prolific flower gardener, cook and seamstress. Katherine opened her heart and home to those in need throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel (Sim) and Retha Hammonds, the original telephone service providers for the Concord community. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, William T. Smith; daughter, Myra Jane Rose; sisters, Bertha Freshour, Lagonda Rhodes and Eva Morgan; brother, Howard E. Hammonds. Munsey, Ingeborg Hildegard, age 64, of Lenoir City, passed away Friday, February 9, 2007. born in Uln, Germany; Inge moved to Lenoir City in 1973 with Jack and their 5 sons. She attended St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and was a real estate agent with Century 21 “The Real Estate Place”. Preceded in death by her husband, Jack Harley Munsey and mother, Josefine Hartmann. Reba Lois Johnson White, age 87, of Lenoir City, passed away Friday evening, February 9, 2007, at her home after living with Alzheimer's Disease for 16 years. She was a dedicated Christian and a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church. For ten years of their retirement, Reba and Leon participated in several short term mission projects around the world through Southern Baptist Mission Boards. Reba graduated from Tennessee Wesleyan College and attended the University of Tennessee. She retired in 1979 from a 21 year teaching career- the last 19 years at Highland Park where she was honored with a lifetime PTO Membership. Earlier teaching years were spent in Roane County Schools. Reba was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. She spent her life serving others. Preceded in death by her parents, J. E. L. and Cora Johnson and her brother, Donald Johnson. Survived by her husband of 62 years, Leon White; children: Judith White of Knoxville, Naomi White Boone and husband, Daniel of Lenoir City, Ed White and wife, Barbara Roberts of Knoxville, Louise White of Lenoir City; two grandsons and two great grandsons; brother, J. Richard W. (Dick) Devin, age 77, of Lenoir City, formerly of Frankfort, IL, passed away suddenly Monday morning, February 12, 2007 at his home. Dick was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lenoir City He retired from U A Plumbers Local. Dick was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the United States Navy for eight years and was a member of the VFW. He was a avid worker at the Good Samaritan Center in Lenoir City. Dick is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margaret; children: Cynthia Devin, Laura Hagg and husband, Harry, Richard L. Devin and wife, Patricia; grandsons: Alexander, Douglas, Matthew, and Richard; brother-in-law, Lt. Col. Ralph Laubecher and Dicks best friend, Max. Betty Jane Strong Parrott, age 76, of Knoxville, passed away early Tuesday morning, February 13, 2007 due to heart failure. She was born in Burlington, VT on 30 March 1930. Betty's life, by word and action was a true wittiness of Jesus Christ and her Christian faith. With Betty, the priority in her life was always God, Family and Country. She was devoted to her husband, children and family. She loved this country and honored those who fought to keep it free. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin Strong and Dorena Longe Strong. Betty Jane is survived by her husband of 57 years, Clifford Parrott; son, Thomas S. Parrott and wife Ellen of Norcross, GA; five daughters, Victoria Hsieh and Georgia Thompson of Pasadena, CA, Jacqueline Roshiem and husband Douglas of Diamond Bar, CA, Patricia Fitzgerald, Christine Fredette and husband Ernest all of Knoxville; fourteen grandchildren; one great grandchild; sisters, Sally Wall and husband Richard of Rancho Mirage, CA, Jacqueline Halvorson and husband Lawrence of Charlotte, VT; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Max Lynn Dunlap, age 72, of Lenoir City, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2007. He was retired from Y-12 in Oak Ridge. Max served in the U. S. Army and National Guard. He was a member of Faithway Baptist Church. Max was preceded in death by wife, Geraldine Dishner Dunlap; sons, Jeffrey Lynn Dunlap and Randy Dunlap; parents, Euclid Dunlap and Sarah Baker Dunlap. Lewis L. Lory, passed away February 9, 2007 in Loudon, TN at the age of 93 years 5 months. He was the son and only child of Lucius E. Lory and Nora Mae (Hynds) Lory. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Dorothy E. (Rowley) Lory, better known as Betty, and by his three children, Dorothy Harris and Tristan Lory, who reside in California, and Alfred Lory of Richmondville, NY. His survivors also include eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Lewis was born in Hyndsville, NY on September 12, 1913. He was a longtime resident of Cobleskill, NY where he graduated from Cobleskill Central High School and then attended Albany Business College. Lewis retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1974 after nearly forty years of service in Cobleskill. During World War II, Lewis served as a sergeant in the 10th Mountain Division, the famed “ski troops” of the U.S. Army, from which he was honorably discharged in 1945. After the war he was a member of the American Legion. Lewis was an accomplished amateur carpenter, and participated in building their house in Cobleskill after the war. In retirement, he and Betty moved to Cooperstown, NY where they became active in square dancing. He also became an avid golfer. Eventually they migrated south to the country club communities of Carolina Shores in Calabash, NC, and then to Tellico Village in Loudon, TN in 1992. Lewis and Betty have been members of the Tellico Village Community Church in Loudon for the past fourteen years. Springtime services will be held in Cobleskill, NY. Thomas E. (Tom) Pitts, age 70, of Concord went to be with the Lord early Thursday morning, February 15, 2007. Tom was a member of First Baptist Church Concord. He was retired from Home Depot. Tom was a devoted volunteer for Mission of Hope. He was an avid wood worker. Tom was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah Loftis; parents, Raymond and Irene Pitts; sister, Dorothy Pitts. Rebecca Carr Wayland, age 96, of Lenoir City, TN, formerly of Fredericktown, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2007. Rebecca was an active supporter of her husband, family, church, and community. She grew up in Potosi, MO. She attended Lindenwood College, St. Charles, MO, and the University of Missouri, Columbia. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority at U of MO and graduated in 1933. After moving to Fredericktown, MO, with her husband Hank, Becky raised two sons prior to a 20 year career teaching Home Economics at Fredericktown High School. After her retirement Becky served with the Fredericktown Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Fredericktown and the First Presbyterian Church, Sevierville, TN. Rebecca was preceded in death by her husband Henry P. “Hank” Wayland and her parents, Albert and Lillian Carr. Rebecca is survived by her two sons; H. Parker Wayland, Jr., Knoxville, TN, and Albert F. Wayland, Frisco, TX. Six grandchildren: Rebecca Wayland, Cos Cob, CT; Hank Wayland, Bel Air, MD; Kent Wayland, Arlington, VA; Judy Smith, Knoxville, TN; Deborah Hanson, Frisco, TX; and Charles Wayland, Plano, TX; eight great-grandchildren; and her sister, Madeline Carr Vasterling, San Diego, CA. Elizabeth Ann Page, age 80, of the Tellico Village Community, Loudon, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2007. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Lenoir City. Survived by her husband, Louis C. Page; children, son, Chuck Page; daughter, Jeanmarie Page Godosky; along with several other family members. Quilla Newcomb, age 82, of Knoxville, passed away Saturday evening, February 17, 2007. Quilla was a member of Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was owner and operator of Cobb and Newcomb Texaco in Solway for 35 years. Quilla was a veteran of World War II serving with the U S Navy. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Suzanne Newcomb; sister, Edith Derrick; brothers, Lloyd, Richard, Reagan, Robert and Wesley Newcomb.
