Jenkins, Jim W. Sr., age 73, of Philadelphia, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at Sweetwater Hospital. A member of Mars Hill Baptist Church in Kingston. Jim was preceded in death by his daughter, Elizabeth Glandon; parents, Tom and Lou Jenkins; sister, Elizabeth Cannon and brother, Cecil Jenkins. His surviving family members are his wife, Catherine Jenkins; son, James W. Jenkins Jr.; daughters: Linda Brooks, Grace Hawkins, Mary Presley, Ann Harvey and Tracy Brewer; 21 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren; 2 brothers and 5 sisters along with many nieces and nephews. Bertram, P. A., age 67, of Loudon, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2005 at U. T. Medical Center. He was of Methodist faith. P. A. was a member of the National Cutting Horse Association and the Masonic Lodge in Louisville, KY. P.A. retired as owner and operator of Interstate Battery in Lenoir City in 1997. He was preceded in death by parents, Watt and Ocie Bertram and sister, Ann Rafferty. Survived by his wife of 45 years, Lois Bertram; son, Brent Bertram and wife, Tammie; daughter, Lana Joseph ; grandson, Blake Bertram all of Lenoir City; brothers, Gary Bertram of Florida and Wayne of Kentucky; sisters, Doris Templeman and Vickie Jo Weaver both of Kentucky; several nieces and nephews. Abert, Patsy Ruth Lee, age 40, of Lenoir City, passed away Tuesday night, January 11, 2005 at her home. She was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia A. Lee and brother, Ronnie Wayne Lee. She is survived by her husband, Charles Abert; daughter, Patricia Keener; son, Kirt Keener; stepsons, Chad Abert and Justin Abert; father, Edward C. Lee Sr.; sisters, Debbie Abbott, Penny Miller, Sandy Brown, Edna L. Manis, Johnnie K. Lee; brothers, Edward C. Lee Jr., Donnie Ray Lee all of Lenoir City; several nieces and nephews. She was greatly loved by her family and was a wonderful person. She would lift your spirits when you didn’t think you had any left. Lasater, H. Alan, Ph.D., age 73, of Knoxville, TN, died Thursday, January 13, 2005 at Park West Hospital. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Knoxville. Dr. Lasater, the only child of William C. and Novella Lasater, was raised in Paris, TN. During his education at the University of Tennessee, he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. After completing his undergraduate degree at the University of Tennessee, he pursued his Masters and was awarded his Ph.D. from Rutgers University in 1968. Dr. Lasater began his career with the University of Tennessee in 1958 as a Lecturer in Statistics, eventually rising to the position of Chairman, Athletic Board, Faculty Representative for Athletics to NCAA and SEC, as well as the Acting Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance. In 1972, he was a founding member of "The Institute for Productivity Through Quality" at the University of Tennessee. In 1984, he became a Founder and Vice President of Tennessee Associates International (TAI), a firm active in developing and facilitating the creation and implementation of improvement systems for clients in the USA, Europe, the Middle East and the Pacific Rim. Dr. Lasater was named as a "Fellow of The American Society for Quality". He was a lifetime member of the American Radio Relay League, call letters, WA4IRG. Dr. Lasater is survived by his wife, Linda Lasater; His children, Michael Lasater and wife Jennifer, Knoxville, Scott Lasater, Fort Wayne, IN, stepchildren Meredith Montgomery and husband Clint and James Kish; grandchildren, Luke Alan Lasater, Amy Jane Lasater of Knoxville and Ciara Lasater, Fort Wayne, IN; mother of children, Katherine Lasater of Knoxville. He is also survived by his cousin, Norma Clayton, Paris, TN. Dr. Lasater was a great of communicator inside and out of the classroom. He had the gift of encouragement and was a mentor to many professionals in the statistics field, as well as to both his sons who also majored in statistics. He will be remembered for his quick wit and his famous comments such as "two things not the same are different". Fashbaugh, Robert Keith, age 82, of the Tellico Village Community, Loudon, TN, formerly of Ypsilanti, MI, passed away Thursday, January 13, 2005 at his home. He attended St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Lenoir City, TN. A veteran of the U. S. Air Force during W. W. II. Robert owned and operated Hayward’s Men’s Wear in Ypsilanti for over 20 years. He went on to retire from retail sales with Ideation Inc. of Ann Arbor, MI. He was a former president of the Ypsilanti Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. Robert was former president of the Michigan Retailer’s Association and was active on a national level with the Retailer’s Association. He was an avid golfer, fisherman and loved to grill. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Lee Fashbaugh and sister, Olive Dieterle. Survived by his companion of the past six years, Dordie Matthews; children, Grant Fashbaugh and wife, Nancy of St. Pete Beach, FL, Leslie Brown of Plymouth, MI; grandchildren,:Jake and Emma Fashbaugh, Julie, Anne and Casey Brown; great grandchildren, Tyler, Luke and Freedom; 3 nieces and nephews. Danko, Anne (Annie), age 92, of Knoxville died Thursday morning, January 13, 2005 at Brakebill Nursing Home. She had been a resident there for two months due to congestive heart failure and other illnesses. She had moved to Knoxville over two years ago to live near her daughter, Patricia Danko. born in America but raised in Czechoslovakia, Mrs. Danko returned to the United States in 1937 and worked as a homemaker, mother of six children, and janitress at St. Francis Hospital in Trenton, N.J. Mrs. Danko was a devout Catholic all of her life. She had a great sense of humor and loved flower gardening and in her senior years crocheting, bingo and dancing. Mrs. Danko was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Danko; sons Julius and David Danko; and daughter Mary Butler. Survivors include daughters Jo Ann Schmidt and husband Tom of Columbia, S.C.; Margaret Dusichka and husband John of Trenton, N.J.; and Patricia Danko of Knoxville. Additional survivors are 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Goss, Charles E., age 68, (Charlie) of Farragut, formerly of Nashville, passed away Monday afternoon, January 17, 2005 at Parkwest Hospital. Charlie was a member and Treasurer of First Farragut United Methodist Church, and a member of the Horizon Sunday School Class. He was Vice President of Finance for Murray Ohio Manufacturing Company. After his retirement, he moved to Farragut to establish Comet Cleaners. He was an avid UT sports fan, a member of the Knoxville Quarterback Club and the Lady Vols Boost-her Club. He was a wonderful husband, father and papa. He was preceded in death by his mother, Catherine Young Goss; aunt and uncle, Lula Mae and James S. Pratt; cousin, Geneva Harrison. Wright, William Richard - born in Loudon County, Tennessee, August, 1917. died in Roswell, Georgia, January 17, 2005. Wright graduated from Lenoir City High School in 1936. Wright enjoyed the advice given for living by dedicated teachers of the public schools of Loudon County and Lenoir City, Tennessee. They kept hammering away at the theme that life was not always going to be a bowl of cherries, nor would it turn out to be a bowl of sour grapes either. Wright married Gladys Fritts of Lenoir City, Tennessee, in 1941, was enlisted into the infantry before WWII and honorably discharged after WWII. He spent five months in a military hospital (not combat related.) He worked briefly at ALCOA before attending Spartan School of Aviation on GI Bill to study meteorology. After Spartan, he followed a weatherman’s career leaving forwarding addresses at the post offices at Tulsa, OK, Jacksonville FL, Savannah, GA, Maryville, TN, Thomasville, GA, Augusta, GA, Winchester, VA, and Chattanooga, TN. After retirement in Chattanooga, Wright did a tour of duty as a TV weatherman for a Chattanooga station. He then moved to Newnan, GA to re-experience small town life. He picked up stakes again and moved to Roswell, GA, near his only child. He was a regional director of AARP. He served as a member of the National Red Cross Disaster Relief Team and worked several major disasters including hurricane Hugo. He is survived by a sister, Ellen Byrn, of Murfreesboro, TN, and a daughter, Virginia W. Strawderman, of Marietta, GA. Preceding him in death was his wife, Gladys Fritts Wright (2000), a sister, Ruby W. Williams. Funeral services will be held at Click Funeral Home, Lenoir City, TN, on Saturday January 22, 2005 at 2:00 PM. Moore Lester N., age 74, of Farragut, TN, formerly of Valdosta, GA and Tallahassee, FL, passed away Thursday morning, January 20, 2005 at Baptist Hospital West. Lester was a member of Farragut Presbyterian Church. He was retired from Winn Dixie Stores of Jacksonville, FL with 51 years of service. Lester was a veteran of U S Army in Germany. He was a Mason and a member of the Lodge in Birmingham. He was preceded in death by his parents, William M. And Martha Spear Moore. Survivors: wife of 22 years, Brenda Moore; son and daughter-in-law, Lamar and Melissa Moore of Woodstock, GA; grandsons, Zachary, Gabriel and Samuel all of Woodstock. Bledsoe, Mrs. Cecile Whaley, age 73, of Lenoir City, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, January 20, 2005, while in her home surrounded by both her friends and family. She was a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church and retired from Park West Hospital after 25 years of service. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 34 years, Frank B. Bledsoe. She is survived by her three sons and their wives, Larry Scott Bledsoe and fiancee’, Brenda Heath, Michael Wayne Bledsoe and wife, Cathy, Bruce Lynn Bledsoe and wife, Terry; six wonderful grandchildren, Stephanie Bledsoe, Laura Bledsoe, Kyle Bledsoe, Chrissy Bledsoe, Drew Robinson, and Skyler Heath all of the Lenoir City and Powell areas; long time friends, sisters-in-law, Katherine Faulkner Rench and Georgia Shaw both of the Knoxville area; several nieces and nephews. Carpenter, Adele Thompson, age 80, of Lenoir City, passed away Saturday morning, January 22, 2005, at her home. She was a member of Hickory Valley Baptist Church. Adele was a retired cafeteria manager serving 33 years with Loudon County Schools. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles (Cap) Carpenter; parents, Charlie and Zelma Thompson. Survivors include her son, Pastor Charley Carpenter; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Jeff Disney, Linda and Joey Kimbrell all of Loudon County; five grandsons: Joey Kimbrell Jr., John Kimbrell and wife, Amanda, Aaron, Andy and Gene Disney; brother, Charles (Buddy) Thompson of Lenoir City and sister, Betty Beecher of Missouri; several nieces and nephews. Brashears, Martha Isabelle Eblen, age 90, of Roane Co., passed away Monday morning, January 24, 2005. She was a lifetime member of Bradbury United Methodist Church where she was active with the United Methodist Women, a song leader for over 50 years and recipient of the United Methodist Women Award. Martha was very active in her community serving as a Pink Lady at Roane Medical Center for 20 years and working Roane County Elections. She was a Charter Member of the Home Demonstration Club. Martha was also an avid quilter and a wonderful cook. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Clayton L. Brashears; great granddaughter, Mary Pauline Mathes and great grandson, Benjamin Daniel Brashears; brothers, Floyd and Hooper Eblen; sister, Reece Day Caldwell. She is survived by her children: David E. Brashears and wife Patti, James M. Brashears and wife Margie all of Lenoir City, Thomas C. Brashears and wife Lynn of Kingsport, R.C. Brashears and wife Marie of Huber Heights, OH, Polly M. Hensley and husband Kenneth of Kingston, Fredrick H. Brashears and wife Lorene of Lenoir City, Edna B. Gibson and husband David of Kingston; 17 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Maggie M. Smith along with several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bradbury United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Bradbury Cemetery. Rev. Tom Markwood will officiate and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The body will lie in state from 12-1 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
