Seidler, David Howard, age 65, of the Tellico Village Community, Loudon, passed away Monday morning, January 9, 2006. Dave was born July 7, 1940 in Laporte, Indiana to William and Mary Louise Seidler. He received his masters degree from Valparaiso University. Dave was an educator for 35 years serving the last 33 years at Rich Central High in Olympia Fields, IL. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Lenoir City. Dave is survived by his wife of 15 years, Carole; sister-in-law, Frances Klein of Tellico Village; daughters: Teresa Johnson and husband, Bob, Kimberly d’Escoto and husband, Dave, Kristin Connolly and husband, Liam all of Aurora, IL; son, Steve Seidler of Chicago; 10 grandchildren; sister, Patricia Barnhart and husband, Roger of Valparaiso, IN; nieces, Julie and Brenda. Davis, Robert Whitaker, Jr., age 53, of Lenoir City, passed away January 9, 2006. He was a member of White Wing Nazarene Church. He was a former probation officer in Dallas, Texas. Rob recently worked for ACT in Knox Co. He was preceded in death by his wife, Julie Davis; father, Robert W. Davis, Sr. and grandparents. Shubert, James E. (Jim), age 64, of Lenoir City, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2006. He was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church. Jim retired from L.C.U.B. after 34 years service. Baird, Paul, age 82, of Lenoir City, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his wife and family. He enjoyed a 37 year career in the United States Government. A veteran of World War II, serving under Gen. George S. Patton in the United States Army. He extended his military career in the United States Air Force and retired as a Master Sergeant. He went on to serve in the Department of Defense as a Communications Specialist. Paul was a 32nd degree Mason. A member of the Kerbela Shrine Temple where he was active with KARS and the Jesters. For more than 50years, he was a ham radio operator holding an extra class license (K3PB) He was preceded in death by parents, Wymer and Minnie Gibson Baird; brothers, Claude, Andy, Clifford and Jennings; sisters, Mary Etta and Goldie. Paul is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anna Shearer Baird; son, Paul D. Baird of Knoxville; daughters, N. Baker, James Roy, age 89, of 6331 Pleasant Ridge Road, Knoxville, passed away at 2:20 p.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2006 at Parkwest Medical Center. Roy was born August 7, 1916 in Sevier County. He was a member of United Missionary Baptist Church. He went to join his Heavenly Father and his wife of 62 years, Edith M. Baker. Roy was also preceded in death by his parents, Clabe and Sara Ann Baker; his ten sisters; daughters, Joann Baker and Geralene Nuchols; son, Carson R. Baker; He was also preceded in death by 5 granddaughters and 3 grandsons. Packett, James Avery, age 67, of Lenoir City, passed away Saturday, January 14, 2006, at his home. He was of the Baptist faith and retired from Skokie Hospital in Skokie, IL. C. Ward Bandy, age 81, of Farragut, passed away on 15 January 2006, after having had a stroke. born and raised in Crossville, he was a graduate of Cumberland County High School and was a Boy Scout. As a boy, Ward enjoyed building model airplanes and at the age of 12 he competed in and won the Southern Conference Model Airplane Competition. He was a First Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps/Air Force and served during World War II and again during the Korean Conflict as a multi-engine B-17 bomber and C-47 transport pilot. His duty locations included Roswell, NM; Tampa, FL; Boca Raton, FL and overseas in the Philippine Islands and Alaska. He is a 1950 graduate of the University of Tennessee. He retired after thirty-five years of employment as an Industrial Photographer and Photography Department Head at Martin Marietta Energy Systems in Oak Ridge, TN. He was a long time member of the Professional Photographers of America (PP of A). Ward was the recipient of numerous honors and awards for his photography while in the Tennessee Professional Photographer's Association, the Southeastern Professional Photographic Association and the Professional Photographers Association of America. In 1980 the PP of A conferred upon him the Tennessee Service Degree and the Certified Professional Photographer Degree. Ward served several terms as a member of the PP of A governing body. He received the PP of A's coveted Photographic Craftsman Degree in Los Angeles in 1974. In all of these organizations, his photographs repeatedly won a myriad of honors and awards for the photographs he submitted for judging by his peers in annual, state, regional, and national salon competitions. Several of the photos Ward made of atomic research and engineering subjects have appeared in scientific textbooks and encyclopedias. The Smithsonian Institution in Washington and Science magazine also accepted and has published several of Ward's photos. Ward was active in the Garden Club and Photography Club at O'Connor Senior Center and was a long time member of the Concord United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Georgia McCormick Bandy of Farragut; son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Susan Bandy of Colorado Springs, CO; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Thomas and Jennifer Bandy of Knoxville; daughter, Claire Bandy of Hampton, VA; and daughter Jana Bandy and her fiancé Mr. Kim Guinn of Johnson City; and three grand-daughters, Laurel Bandy of Colorado and Jena and Lauren Bandy of Knoxville. Buchanan, Dr. Raymond A. (Ray), age 62, of Knoxville, died Sunday evening, January 15, 2006 at his home. Ray was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Lenoir City. He was a Professor and Head of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He was a three-time graduate of Vanderbilt University, receiving BE, MS and PhD degrees from that institution. His first teaching position was at the University of Alabama, Birmingham. He joined the faculty of the University of Tennessee in 1985. He was recipient of numerous awards for his teaching and research. Among these were the UT Chancellor's Award for Research and Creative Achievement, the College of Engineering's Brooks Distinguished Professor Award, the Allen and Hoshall Engineering Faculty Award, the Robert M. Condra Professorship, and several Outstanding Teacher Awards. Ray's expertise was in the areas of corrosion, wear, fatigue, and biomaterials. He had numerous publications in these areas including a textbook coauthored with E. E. Stansbury entitled "Fundamentals of Electrochemical Corrosion." Ray was an active member of several professional societies, and he was a fellow of ASM International (formerly American Society for Metals) and a former chairman of the Oak Ridge Chapter. He was recently co-director of a major National Science Foundation (NSF) Integrative Graduate Education and Traineeship Program (IGERT) focused on materials lifetime science and engineering, and he was currently a co-director of a NSF International Materials Institute Program entitled "Advanced Neutron Scattering Network for Education and Research with a Focus on Mechanical Behavior." As evidenced by all of his awards and accomplishments, Ray loved working with students at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, and he was highly respected by all of the department's faculty, staff and students. Ray loved nature, was an avid Tennessee Football fan and loved to travel. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael David Buchanan; father, Raymond B. Buchanan; sister, Sherry Kay Kline. He is survived by his beloved wife, Billie Miller Buchanan; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Scott Reeves of Atlanta, GA; adoring granddaughters, Katie Reeves, Abby Reeves, Brianna Smith and Hope Buchanan; mother, Katherine Buchanan of Madison, TN; brother, Ronald B. Baird, Nancy L., age 72, of Lenoir City, passed away Sunday January 15, 2006, at the Fort Loudoun Medical Center. Nancy retired from the News-Herald after 30 years of service. She was a lover of animals and had been a faithful care giver to her son, Billy. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary Patten and a brother, Raymond Patten. Franklin, Clifton Vinning, age 89, of Friendsville, went home to be with Jesus Sunday morning, January 15, 2006, at Colonial Hills Nursing Center in Maryville. Clifton was a faithful member of Unitia Holiness Church in Friendsville, where he will be sadly missed by his church family. He served his country in World War II parachuting into France with the United States Army 101st Army Airborne Division. He was retired from Blount County Highway Department. Clifton was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Pearl Irene Goforth Franklin; parents, Calie Ann and Jim “Riley” Franklin; brother, J. Fred Franklin. Phillips, John Kelly II, age 58, of Lenoir City, is now in a place of peace, having joined loved ones that have passed before him. He is welcomed in Heaven by his parents, Raymond and Betty Phillips; his first wife, Judy Walker Phillips; and son, Lee Russell. John is survived by his wife of 27 years, Dawn Phillips, with whom he shared a very private and ever-growing love. His surviving children include, Scott Phillips and wife, Karin of Cookeville, Sara Russell Cain and husband, Stephen of Nashville; Carrie Russell of Knoxville and Neal Phillips of Lynchburg, VA. John was a gentle giant and tender grandfather to the little ones who knew him affectionately as “Big John”; his grandkids include Evelyn, Maggie and Jacob Phillips, Ian Patrick and Kelsey Lee Cain. He was a charter member of Fellowship Baptist Church, a veteran of the U. S. Edith retired as a secretary from Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Preceded in death by mother, Willie Grace Boles; father, Arch Paul Pendleton; brothers, Harvey Pendleton and Charles Pendleton; sons, Morgan Paul Pendleton, Jr. and Charles Calvin Pendleton, Sr. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Janice Pendleton; son, Danny Pendleton; daughter, Novella Whisnant and husband, Roger; grandsons, Charles “Junior” Pendleton, Gabe Pendleton, Roger Whisnant, Jr. and Danny Whisnant; granddaughters, Rebecca Hutchins and husband David, and Amanda Whisnant; great grandsons, McKellar and Isaiah Finn; great granddaughter, Cassie Whisnant; brothers, Melvin Thurman, Roy Pendleton, Gene Pendleton and Joe Paul Pendleton; sisters, Florene Hrutkay, Joann Phillips and Peggy Pool; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Click Funeral Home, Lenoir City. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in Loudon Co. Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made toward Jake’s funeral expenses. Wright, Robert Lynn, age 50 Loudon, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2006. He was preceded in death by mother, Naomi Wright; father, Horace Wright; and brother, Ralph Dewayne Wright. Survived by son, Robert Smith of Lenoir City; daughter; grandson, Dameon Smith of Lenoir City; sister, Shirley Stratton of Loudon; brothers, Gary Wright, Billy Wright and Terry Wright; several nieces and nephews. Kuder, Tony, age 92, of the Tellico Village Community, Loudon, TN, formerly of Rochester Hill, MI, passed away Monday, January 23, 2006. He was a member of S.N.P.J #564 Lodge, and S.A.C. Tony was retired from Ford Motor Company. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna. Survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Bill Menzies of the Tellico Village Community in Loudon, TN; niece, Charlotte Boyles and nephew, William Mandril.
