Harvey George Pitt Jr.
Harvey George “H.G.” Pitt Jr. died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at a local hospital after an extended illness.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 26 at 19th Avenue Church of Christ with Bro. Maurice Conners officiating.
He was a native of Cedar Hill. He was a long-time member of Mt. Herman Baptist Church, and later joined the 19th Avenue Church of Christ in Springfield.
He graduated from Bransford High School and served in the United States Navy where he was trained as a construction and mechanic specialist in the SeeBee Unit.
During his career he worked on various construction projects throughout Tennessee and Kentucky.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Pitt Sr. and Gennie Morrow Pitt, and a sister, Marion Gregory.
Mr. Pitt is survived by his devoted wife, Emma Cook Pitt; a daughters, Sheila Pitt (Leroy) White of Eket, Nigeria; sisters, Glodean McCall, Ophelia Turner, Anna (Willie) Jackson, Elizabeth Wortham, all of Nashville; Edith (William) Miller, Cocoa Beach, Fla.; grandsons, David White of Buffalo, N.Y., Christopher White of Rolla, Mo.; and one great-granddaughter, Jasmine White; step-children, Sabrina (Eugene) Ellis of Springfield, Stevie Cook of Madison; nine step-grandchildren, Chantra, Derrick, Joseph Ellis, Carlos Cook, Courtney Holt, Christina Holt, Stevie Cook Jr., Joanna Cook, and Cedric Cook.

Edward Bryan Crutcher
Edward Bryan Crutcher, 77, of Guthrie, Ky., died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Gateway Medical Center.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec, 21 at 2 p.m. at Cook-Webb Funeral Home in Guthrie, Ky.
Burial followed in Highland Cemetery. There was a Masonic service at the graveside, with Rev. Ken Reeder officiating.
Mr. Crutcher was born Sept. 1, 1925, in Coopertown. He is the son of the late William Saunders Crutcher and Lemma Hinkle Crutcher.
He was a member of the First Christian Church of Guthrie, Ky.; a member of the Masonic Lodge; and a member of the National Education Association.
Mr. Crutcher had been a retired professor of education at Austin Peay State University for 30 years.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Murphy Crutcher; a son, William Edward Crutcher of Guthrie, Ky.; a daughter, Susan Elizabeth Crutcher McGhee of Elkton, Ky.; three brothers, Thomas Crutcher of Springfield, and John Crutcher and Richard Crutcher, both of Coopertown; three sisters, Ruth Balthrop of Waverly, and Carolyn Jillson of Clarksville, Mayron Huddleston of Brentwood; and three grandchildren.
Cook-Webb Funeral Home in Guthrie, Ky., was in charge of arrangements.
William G. Barton
William G. Barton, 49, died of prostate cancer Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at his home in Sugar Land, Texas.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 14 at Williams Trace Baptist Church, Sugar Land, Texas.
The interment followed at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg, Texas.
Mr. Barton was born Dec. 4, 1953, in Tucson, Ariz., and was raised in Falls Church, Va.
He graduated from the University of Virginia in 1975, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering.
He began his career as a cost consultant with Texaco in 1975, and moved his family to refinery projects in Tulsa, Okla., Reading, England and Pembroke, Wales.
His service to Williams Trace Baptist Church included teaching Sunday School for single adults.
He volunteered for many years with the East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry, a food bank of the greater Houston area.
Mr. Barton was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Glenn and Emma Perry Taylor of Barren Plains; parents, William G. Barton Sr. and Evelyn Taylor Barton of Fairfax, Va.; an aunt, Elizabeth “Red” Taylor Holman of Springfield, and an uncle, Bart Barton of Santa Clara, Calif.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Susan Porter Barton; daughters, Jennifer Reid Barton and Rebecca Lynn Barton, all of Sugar Land, Texas; a sister, Anita Barton of Alexandria, Va., aunts, Jeanette Taylor Smith of Cedar Hill, and Goldie Barton McCutchan of Visalia, Calif.; and numerous cousins.
Pallbearers were co-workers from Chevron Texaco.
The Settegast-Kopf Co. Funeral Home of Sugar Land, Texas, was in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Masters Gunn
Ruth Masters Gunn, 84, of Springfield, died Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at Beverly Health Care.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, July 19 at 10 a.m. at Austin & Bell Funeral Home with Dr. Jerry Oakley officiating.
Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Gunn was born Aug. 14, 1917, in Robertson County to the late Tom and Ruth Watson Masters.
She was a retired service representative for BellSouth.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Taylor Gunn who died Aug. 3, 1988.
Survivors include a daughters, Cindy Gunn Putman, and a son-in-law, Andy of Springfield; three grandchildren, Anna Ruth Hollingsworth, Sam Taylor Hollingsworth and Jessica Lauren Putman, all of Springfield; two sisters, Mildred Edgin of Amherst, Va., Emily Couts of Springfield; a brother, Thomas Masters of Hixson; sister-in-law, Peggy Gunn of Springfield; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 4 until 8 p.m.

Edward Lee Read
Edward Lee (Greasy) Read, 93, of Greenbrier, died Thursday, July 11, 2002, at the Veterans Hospital in Nashville.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, July 14 at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield.
He was born May 1, 1909 in Ashland City, son of Sam and Corabelle Felts Read.
He was a member of Bethel Church of Christ.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ann Knight Read.
He is survived by sons, Harold Ray (Celia) Read of Goodlettsville and Kenneth Ray (Susan) Read of Nashville; daughter, Mary Ann Harvey of Greenbrier; a brother, Harwell Read of Moorehead, Ky.; a sister, Christine Garner of Nashville; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

William Manuel Morris
William Manuel Morris, 70, of Moreno Valley, Calif., died Thursday, July 11, 2002, at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville.
His remains were cremated.
He was born April 7, 1932, in Rhode Island, son of Manuel and Mary Ferreria Morris.
He is preceded in death by his wives, Shirley Ann Gones and Eva Conteras.
Survivors include a son, William Michael (Arita) Morris of Fontana, Calif.; daughters, Cheryl Ann (Gary) Bates of Riverside, Calif. and Lori Ann (Desmond) Chase of Moreno Valley, Calif.; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild.

Lillie A. Covington
Lillie A. Covington, 89, died Friday, July 5, 2002.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 7 at 2 p.m. at Austin & Bell, White House.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.
Interment followed at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Covington is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Lattie Sue Covington of Greenbrier; daughters and son-in-laws, June (Bobby) Clinard of Greenbrier, and Ellen (Mickey) Tate of Cross Plains; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Maggie Smith of Rockwood, Texas, Marie Taylor and Eileen Lemon, both of Indianapolis, and Lucille Roberts of Goodlettsville.
