Patricia Nelle Underwood
Patricia Nelle “Pat” Underwood, 70, of the Lamont Community in Springfield, died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at her home.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, March 29, at 10 a.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Rev. Bill McCabe and Rev. Rick Robinson officiating.
The interment followed in the Williams Chapel Cemetery.
Mrs. Underwood was born Sept. 29, 1931, in Franklin, Ky., to the late Ray H. and Elizabeth Nelle Babb Dean.
She was a retired nursing supervisor with NorthCrest Medical Center.
Mrs. Underwood was a member of Williams Chapel Baptist Church, where she was a member of the WMU.
She was a graduate of Central City High School Class of 1949. She developed and taught a LPN class at the former Jesse Holman Jones Hospital.
Mrs. Underwood is survived by husband, Clif Underwood of Springfield; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Becky Underwood of Springfield; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Rick Benton of Springfield, and Lynn and David Henry of Spotsylvania, Va.; a brother, Dr. David Dean of Morris Plains, N.J.; a sister, Dr. Sarah K. Dean of St. Petersburg, Fla.; grandchildren, Misty Underwood Roberts, Matt Underwood, Josh and Emily Benton, Sarah, Megan and Alex Henry.

Bobby Lewis Hargett
Bobby Lewis Hargett, 70, of Springfield, died Saturday, March 30, 2002, at Skyline Medical Center.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, April 1, at 2 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Rev. Sandy Hodge and Dr. Farris Moore officiating.
The interment followed in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
Mr. Hargett was born July 12, 1931, in Holland, Ky., to the late Marion L. and Ella Meadow Hargett.
He was a retired truck driver for Yellow Freight.
Mr. Hargett was a member of the Cross Roads Baptist Church, the Coopertown Men’s Club, the Hardee’s Breakfast Club, Western Star Lodge No. 9, the Al Menah Temple, and the Scottish Rite.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, where he served in the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Hargett is survived by his wife, Sara Keith Hargett of Springfield; daughters and son-in-law, Brenda and Randy Wilson, and Linda Hargett, all of Springfield; sisters, Erlene Cook of Bowling Green, Ky., Norma Perry of Ceres, Calif., Mary Peek of Waco, Texas; grandchildren, Dustin and Drew Wilson, both of Springfield.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.

Martha Jeanette Beard
Martha Jeanette “Jean” Beard, 78, died Monday, April 1, 2002.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 3 (today), at Marshall-Donnelly-Combs Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Clark officiating.
Interment to follow at noon at Elmwood Cemetery in Springfield.
Honorary pallbearers include Henry Mogan, John McPherson, Vick Coode, Bob Napier, Larry Stumb, Dr. Howard Salyer, Dr. Michael Niedermeyer, Harry Williams Jr., Jimmy Edin, retirees and employees of National Life/American General Life Insurance Co. Active pallbearers include nephews John Sloan, John Holt, Corey Blick, Michael Blick, Jerry Corbin, Billy Edgen, Wade Corbin and Bobby Corbin.
Mrs. Beard worked for National Life/American General Life Insurance Co. for over 42 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Corbin, her husband, Chandler O. “Scottie” Beard, six brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include a brother, William “Tubby” Corbin of Melbourne, Fla.; a sister, Virginia “Pig” Myatt of Nashville; sisters-in-law, Alice Williams of Dresden, Tenn., Muriel Corbin of Springfield; brother-in-law, Bernis (Mainey) Beard of Paris, Tenn.; a nephew, Rick Shepherd of Nashville; nieces, Donna Moore of Mt. Juliet, Jessica Shepherd, Kim (Buddy) Curtis, Morgan Curtis, all of Nashville, Kitty Bell Holt, Ellen Bell Van Dyke, Betsye Vaughn, Carolyn Elder, Ann Frye Sloan, Wanda Cohea, Karen Sweatt, Sarah Arms, Cathy Corbin, Jean Blick, Ann Corbin and all her other relatives and friends.

Raymond Lovell
Leslie Raymond Lovell, 64, of Ridgetop, died Wednesday, March 27, at his home.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, March 29, at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Greenbrier, with Rev. Clifford Owens officiating.
Interment followed in Spring Hill Cemetery in Ridgetop.
Mr. Lovell was born in Davidson County on May 1, 1937, to the late John Leslie and Anna Reed Lovell.
He was a retired plumber and served in the National Guard.
He was a Baptist.
Survivors include a brother, Albert Lovell of Nashville; two sisters, Elizabeth McCool and Marie Bearden, both of Nashville; a step-daughter, Julie Story of Greenbrier; several nieces and nephews.
Austin & Bell Greenbrier Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Henry Herschel Ellis
Henry Herschel Ellis, 80, of Nashville, died Tuesday, March 26, at Beverly Health Care in Springfield.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 29, at Austin & Bell Chapel in Greenbrier with Bro. Mike Fisher officiating.
Interment followed in Joelton Hills Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Ellis was retired from Gray and Dudley Manufacturing and was a Baptist.
He was born in Cheatham County on Oct. 3, 1921, to the late George C. and Maude Ogg Ellis.
Survivors include two sisters, Leona F. Ayers and Dorothy A. Justice; a brother, Robert E. Ellis, all of Greenbrier.

Mary Dunavin
Mary Francis Knight Dunavin, 59, of Springfield, died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at Vanderbilt Medical Center, Nashville.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 29, with Bro. David Royalty officiaing.
Burial followed in the New Hope Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery in Joelton.
Mrs. Dunavin was born in Ashland City on Dec. 9, 1942, to the late Nathan and Emma Lou Johnson Knight.
She was employed at Atwood Industries, Greenbrier Operations, Greenbrier for 16 years.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lisa Kay Dunavin Swinson, and a sister, Toni Rebecca Robinson.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Tracie Dunavin of Eagle, Neb.; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Catherine “Kay” and Wayne Hovatter of Cross Plains; a son, Joseph Nathaniel “Jodey” Dunavin; nine grandchildren, Grayson and Brandi Swinson, Josh, Michael, Cody, Elizabeth and Samantha Dunavin, Cody Wolfe, and Cody Bye.

George Jesse Christian Jr., 40, of Shelby Drive, Clarksville, died March 29, 2002, at home.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 1, at 3 p.m. at Sykes Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel.
Interment followed at Sykes Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. in Clarksville.
Mr. Christian was born in Desota, Mo., on Dec. 16, 1961, to George Jesse Christian Sr. and Glenda Nappier Christian, both of Clarksville.
He was a Baptist.
He was the press room foreman at The Leaf Chronicle, Clarksville.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Dena Ann Stewart Christian; sisters, Penny Hennessee of McMinnville and Mindy Short of Pleasant View.
