Jessie O. Northington, 80, of Cedar Hill, died Oct. 6, 2002 at TVHCS in Nashville.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 10 at Antioch Baptist Church in Cedar Hill.
Visitation will be held Wednesday (today) from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Home. The family will be present from 6-8 p.m., and Thursday, at Antioch Baptist Church in Cedar Hill from 12-1 p.m. with the funeral to follow.
Elder Ben Dilliard will officiate.
Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Cedar Hill.
Mr. Northington is predeceased by his parents, Jesse Northington and Estel Rudolph Northington, and a son, Jessie O. Northington Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Mattie E. Northington; sons, Emmit (Eural) Northington, and Charles (Elaine) Northington, both of Springfield; a daughter, Miss Amelia Northington of Nashville; two sisters, Lucille Wells of Columbus, Ga., and Louetta Northington Lewis; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.

Lucy Willis Pettus
Mrs. Lucy Willis Pettus, 88, of Clarksville died at her residence on Oct. 5, 2002.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10 at First Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Robert P. Harris Jr.
Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. at Foston Funeral Home, and the family will be present from 6-8 p.m.
Mrs. Pettus was born in Christian County, Ky., Dec. 20, 1913, to Charlie Willis and Henrietta Kendrick Willis.
She is retired from the housekeeping department of Austin Peay State University.
She was a member of Mt. Herman Baptist church where she served on the Mother’s Board, sang with the Senior Choir and was a former usher. She was also a member of the community service club, and a member of St. James Lodge # 78, Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husband, Rev. Will D. Pettus; sons, Lawson Moss Jr. of Sacramento, Calif., and James L. Moss of Clarksville; daugthers, Virginia Ann Vanleer of Clarksville; sisters, Mary Pink Moore and Georgia Moore, both of Indianpolois; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

John Vernon DePriest
John Vernon DePriest, 57, of Lobelville, died Oct. 3, 2002 at Perry Community Hospital in Linden.
Funeral services were held at McDonald Funeral Home Saturday, Oct. 5 at 2 p.m. with Jerry Mathis officiating.
Burial followed in the DePriest Westside Cemetery in Lobelville.
Mr. DePriest served in the Army during the Vietnam War.
He was a general manager in construction at National Cement.
He was born to Mildred Johnson and Charles DePriest.
He was a member of Meriter’s Stroke Survivor Group, Volunteer Glacial Drumland Soccer League, Volunteer NRA, enjoyed flower gardening, and was a history and geneology collector buff.
He was a veteran in the Vietnam War.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a grandchild, Patrick A. Dillard.
Survivors include his wife, Ione Elizabeth DePriest of Lobelville; a son, Capt. William B. DePriest of Marietta, Ga.; a daughter, Renee’ Dillard of Marysville, Ohio; a brother, Stephen DePriest of Lobelville; and a grandchild, Katherine E. Dillard of Marysville, Ohio.

Artha Edward Spain
Artha Edward Spain, 87, died Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, at his residence.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24 at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Greenbrier with Rev. Floyd Reynolds officiating.
Interment followed in Greenbrier Cemetery.
Mr. Spain was born on Sept. 19, 1915, in Robertson County to the late Charlie Edward and Laura Ethyl Scruggs Spain.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife, Vadie Lee Eden Spain.
Survivors include his sons, Bennie Spain of Cedar Hill, Johnny Spain, Melvin Spain, J.T. “Pete” Spain and Donnie Spain, all of Springfield; daughters, Jo Ann Briley of Springfield, Wanda Spivey of Orlinda, Evalina Hart of Cross Plains and Marie Roth of Chapel Hill; sisters, Maggie Redferin of Portland and Nona Mae Baldwin of Springfield; 20 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers who served were David Briley, Ronnie Spain, Jason Spain, Joshua Spain, Doug Spain, David Spivey, Dale Spivey and Wayne Dorris.
Honorary pallbearers were Ray Dean Spain and William Spain.

James Westley Dempsey, 84, died Nov. 25, 2002, at Bowling Green Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 1 p.m. at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Adairville, Ky. with Elder Linda Sears officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Adairville.
He was born in Springfield Dec. 10, 1917 to the late Irby Eugene and Bessie Lee Jennings Dempsey.
He was retired from Auburn Hosiery Mills.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Smith Dempsey; sons, Westley Wayne Dempsey of Satsuma, Fla., and Joe Fred (Pamela Joyce) Dempsey of Auburn, Ky.; a brother, I.E. Dempsey Jr. of Omaha, Neb.; grandchildren, Christopher Westley Dempsey of Omaha, Neb., Kathryn Alicia Dempsey Genson of San Diego, Calif., Pamela Yvonne Dempsey of Auburn, Ky., and a great-granddaughter, Shaelyn Rose Dempsey of Omaha, Neb.

Evelyn Louise Mooneyhan, 65, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 1 p.m. at Austin & Bell Funeral Home.

Mrs. Mooneyhan was the daughter of the late Oscar and Lassie Rippy Lane.
She is survived by her husband, James Lee Mooneyhan; sons, James, Charles and Michael Mooneyhan; daughters, Donna McElhiney and Joyce Graves; brothers, Oscar Leonard, Ray, Lee and Charles Lane; sisters, Pearlee Ulrich and Mary Meadow, and 13 grandchildren.

Gregory Allen Nelson, 35, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002.
