Gordon Cyril Strange
Gordon Cyril Strange, 67 of Adams, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at his home.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. at the Adams United Methodist Church with Rev. Andy Perry officiating.
Interment followed in Adams Cemetery.
Mr. Strange was born Aug. 12, 1937, in Robertson County to the late John W. and Pauline Watts Strange.
He was retired from the U. S. Air Force. Mr. Strange was a member of Adams United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Joann Krahn Strange of Adams; daughters, Trish Dunford and husband, Stan of Adams, and Lisa Jernigan and husband, Dereke of Adams; brothers and sisters-in-law, John W. Strange of Chapmansboro, Paul H. and Opal Strange of Adams, Charles E. Strange of Alabama, and Ronald H. and Denise Strange of Cedar Hill; sisters and brothers-in-law, Theresa and F. E. Head of Adams, and Mona Sue and Melvin Belt of Clarksville; grandchildren, Sheena and Dylan Dunford, Kelsey and Blake Jernigan.
The family request donations be made to American Cancer Society.

Ryan Vinson
Ryan Keith Vinson, 14, of Springfield, died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at NorthCrest Medical Center.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Sept. 30 at 4 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Pastor John Webb officiating.
Interment followed in Memorial Gardens.
Ryan was born Feb. 16, 1990, in Robertson County.
He was a freshman at Springfield High School and attended Coopertown Community Church.
Survivors include his father, Randall Vinson of Springfield; mother, Sherry Vinson of Springfield; sister, Carie Vinson of Springfield; grandparents, Wayne Ragsdale of Springfield, Carolyn Faye Sircy of Joelton and Jimmy Vinson of Nashville.

Donnie Ray Ellis
Donnie Ray Ellis, 68, of Springfield, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004, at NorthCrest Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home with Rev. Kyle Slater officiating.
Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
Mr. Ellis was born May 2, 1936, in Robertson County, to the late Marshall Sim and Georgia Buford Wilson Ellis.
He was a member of Grace Baptist Church and a retired truck driver.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ellis; brothers, Rayburn, Hassell and Cyril Ellis; and a sister, Edna Joyce Ellis.
He is survived by a step-son, Danny Evans of Nashville; step-daughters, Lois Coter of Cedar Hill and Pam Evans of Springfield; a brother, Carl “Duck” Ellis of Springfield; a nephew, Gerald Ellis of Springfield.

James Sydney Morris
James Sydney Morris, 87, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4 with Rev. Delwyn Fryer officiating.
Pallbearers were Joe Mehaffey, Rob King, Brian Keen, Sterling Groves, Cliff, Johnny and Larry Graves.
Interment followed at Restlawn Cemetery.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, James Ed and Jean Morris, Bobby and Louise Morris; grandchildren, Cheryl Mehaffey and Lisa King; great-grandchildren, Jami Peveler, Logan Rooker, Alexandra and Sydney King; and a sister, Willie Taylor.

Augustine Fleming
Augustine Fleming, 70, of Evansville, Ind., formerly of Springfield, died Sunday, Oct. 3 at her residence.
Remains are at Serenity Funeral Home in Springfield.
Funeral services are Wednesday (today) Oct. 6 at 12:00 at New Beginning Church in Evansville, Ind.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 7, at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Home in Springfield with Elder H. Caines officiating.
Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Springfield.
Mrs. Fleming is preceded in death by her parents, Jim Etherly and Mozel Heatherly.
Survivors include two grandsons, Demetri Brewer of Evansville, Ind., and Deangleo Brewer of Mt. Vernon, Ind.; a granddaughter, Christina Brewer of Evansville, Ind.; a brother, Carl Hilliard Sr. of Cleveland, Ohio; a devoted nephew, Carl Hilliard Jr. of Cleveland, Ohio and a devoted niece, Tracy Curry of Cleveland, Ohio; a host of cousins and other devoted friends.

Frances Pond Reid French
Frances Pond Reid French, 80, life-long resident of Cottontown, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, Franklin, Ky. at 11 a.m. Wednesday (today) with Father Robert Drury officiating.
Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at Walnut Grove Cemetery in White House.
Mrs. French was born June 10, 1924, in Cottontown in Sumner County to the late Samuel Ernest and Della (Baldridge) Pond.
She was employed for 32 years by the State of Tennessee.
She was a member of Walnut Grove United Methodist Church for many years and St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Franklin, Ky.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, Clinard Pond and husband, Fred Houser Reid.
Survivors include her husband, Vivon Francis French; a daughter, Rita A. (Charles) Reid Read of Cross Plains; step-daughters, Patricia (Michael) French Barger of Palm Desert, Calif. And Kathleen (Milton) French Miller of Scottsdale, Ariz.; step-son, Kevin (Betty) French of Fredericksburg, Va.; grandchildren, David S. (Mary) Read, Amy E. (James) Hutcheson, and Mark E. Read; great-grandson, James Daniel Hutcheson; step-grandchildren, Stephanie and Glenn Barger, Ensign Spencer Miller, USN, Mary Catherine, Kelsey, Sarah and Morgan French.

Jesse Draughon Mallory
Jesse Draughon Mallory, 91, died at home Sept. 28, 2004, after an extended illness.
Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 1 at 10 a.m. at Belmont United Methodist Church with Rev. John H. Collett Jr. and Rev. Linda Johnson officiating.
Interment followed at 2 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Erin.
Pallbearers were grandsons and nephews.
He is a graduate of Austin Peay Junior College and received a bachelor’s degree in geography from University of Tennessee in 1934, and a master’s degree in physical education and health education fro George Peabody College for Teachers in 1940.
He served as a teacher, coach and principal in several high schools in Kentucky, Tennessee and Mississippi.
During World War II he served aboard LST 931 in the South Pacific and remained active in Naval Reserve until his retirement in 1973 with the rank of Lt. Commander.
He worked as a publishing representative for Rand McNally Random House and Denoyer-Geppert, traveling throughout the southern United States.
In 1973, he became a charter faculty member at Volunteer State Community College, also serving as the school’s first athletic director and director of public relations and development.
He was a football and basketball official with the TSSAA and OVC.
He and his wife joined Belmont United Methodist Church in May, 1951. Over the years he served his church in many ways, especially as teacher of the Shriver Class with whom he shared his love of geography and the Holy Land.
He was a longtime member of the downtown Kiwanis Club, serving as president in 1976 and 1977.
Mr. Mallory was a talented singer and musician. In the early days of radio, his family hosted an hour long program on WFIQ in Hopkinsville, Ky.
Later in the years after World War II he hosted a program in Nashville which was called Veteran’s Spotlight, sponsored by the Veteran’s Administration. For 40 years, Mr. Mallory entertained civic clubs, education groups and church groups all over the south. He was a long-time member of SPEBSOSA.
He is preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Rose Duck
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Edna Dickson Mallory; two daughters, Suzanne McCampbell (Allen) and Benetta James (Russ) both of Erin; two sisters, Mary Derryberry and Martha Hill, both of Nashville; several nieces and nephews. grandchildren, Bryan James (Debbie) of Carrollton, Texas, Trey McCampbell (Krista) of Hermitage, Allyson Huddleson (John) of Mt. Juliet, Johanna Hewlett (John) of Coppell, Texas; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Belmont United Methodist Church.
