Susie Covington Austin
Susie Covington Austin, who would have turned 90 Dec. 2, died Nov. 23, 2004, at her home in Springfield.
Funeral services were held at Austin & Bell Saturday, Nov. 27 at 1 p.m.
Burial followed at Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Austin was born in Cross Plains, one of ten children.
In 1935, she married Tom Austin, a funeral director, who co-founded Austin & Bell Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens.
They worked together in the funeral business until his death in 1980.
Mrs. Austin remained active at the funeral home and operated her separate burial dress business, which she began in 1948. Her granddaughter, Susan Echols Willis, joined her in the dress business in 1994 until it was sold in 2001.
She loved her home, named “Hoss Haven” where she and her husband hosted many dinners and parties. She also opened her home to numerous church, civic and other groups and was generous in her gifts to friends and numerous causes.
She loved her family, her church, Springfield Baptist Church, and her many friends in Robertson County and across the state.
Survivors include her daughter, Marcia Austin Echols and her son, Tommy Austin Jr.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and 15 nieces and nephews; two beloved sisters, Verna Head of Hendersonville and Frances Larrick of Cookeville; and a brother, John M. Covington of Cross Plains.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Springfield Baptist Church in Springfield.

Robert Craig McKinney
Robert Craig McKinney, 23, of Adams, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Nov. 28 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Bro. Jack Martin officiating.
Burial followed in Bellwood Cemetery.
Craig was born in Montgomery County Nov. 15, 1981.
He was a student at Austin Peay State University.
He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Robert S. Rosson.
Survivors include his parents, Thomas R. “Tommy” and Celeste Rosson McKinney of Adams; brothers, Thomas Rosson McKinney of Atlanta, Ga., and William Kyle McKinney of Adams; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. McKinney of Adams and Elizabeth Stewart Rosson of Springfield; and several aunts and uncles.
“The Craig McKinney Youth Baseball Memorial Fund” has been established for memorials. These may be made in care of Austin & Bell Funeral Home, 509 Walnut St., Springfield, TN 37172.

Donna Rhea Edgin
Donna Rhea Edgin, 58, of Springfield, died at Vanderbilt Medical Center Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004.
Graveside services were held in the Memorial Gardens Friday, Nov. 26 at 1 p.m.
She was retired from Cigna Healthcare where she was Operations Manager.
She was born in Robertson County April 17, 1946, to Edna Bernice Head Dickens of Springfield and the late Neily Dickens.
In addition to her mother, she is also survived by a daughter, Lisa Edgin Hannah of Nashville.

Lanny Ross Whitfield
Lanny Ross Whitfield, 67, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004 at Skyline Medical Center.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 27 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Steven Lee officiating.
Interment followed at White House Memorial Gardens with full military rites.
Mr. Whitfield was retired from the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Eilleen Haney Whitfield; a daughter, Debbie (Thomas) McGuire; a son, Lenny Ross (Diane) Whitfield; grandsons, Terry Ray McGuire, Michael Whitfield, and Michael Burnett; a great-granddaughter, Taylor Nicole McGuire; sisters, Betty Callis and Peggy Lamberth; brothers, Prentice Cooper Whitfield and Phillip Wayne Whitfield.

Alan Dale Buchanan
Alan Dale Buchanan, 47, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004.
Memorial services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5 at The Church of Grace Park with Bro. Bob Cook officiating.
Visitation with the family will be from 2 p.m. until the time of service.
Mr. Buchanan was a member of The Church of Grace Park.
Survivors include his wife, Laura Buchanan; parents, Doyal and Frances Buchanan; a son, Caleb Alan Buchanan; a daughter, Kristen Buchanan; step-sons, Justin and Robert Mitchuson; step-daughter, Kristin Ham; a brother, Steven Buchanan; a sister, Nancy Holston; three grandchildren, Ali, Shelby and Clayton; several nieces and nephews.

Doris Pond Sanders
Doris Pond Sanders, 65, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, Nov. 29 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Carolyn Bingham and Rev. Linda Johnson officiating.
Burial followed at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Van Pond Jr., Daniel Pond, Jerry Wade Meadows, Lynn Starkes, and Wayne Phillips.
Mrs. Sanders was a member of Walnut Grove United Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Gilford and Lila Pond.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond Sanders; a son, Dale (Sherrie) Sanders; a daughter, Linda (Tim) Green; grandchildren, Lisa Kelchner, Scott, Nicholas and Meredith Sanders, Stacey Spivey and Derek Green; great-grandchildren, Daniel, Chase and Sydney Kelchneer, Colin, Ella and Lane Spivey; a brother, Van Pond; sisters, Joan Cook, Sue Smart and Sharon Roach.

William A. Cowan
William A. Cowan, 90, of Springfield, died at Beverly Healthcare Monday, Nov. 29, 2004.
Graveside services will be held in the Greenwood Cemetery in Adairville, Ky., Wednesday, Dec. 1 (today) at 10 a.m. with Rev. Duane Cowan officiating.
Mr. Cowan was retired from Allegheny Steel Company, where he was a factory manager.
He was born in Logan County, Ky., on July 16, 1914, to the late James Chatham and Cora Beatrice Maguiar Cowan.
He is also preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Whiting Cowan; a son, Grady Cowan Sr.; grandson, Grady Cowan Jr.; three brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Anita Cowan of Springfield, Gary and Paulette Cowan of Springfield; grandson, Adam Cowan; granddaughters, Allison Cowan and Serena Dale; and a brother, Raymond Cowan of Adairville, Ky.
