Robert Newman Allen
Robert Newman Allen, 74, of Cedar Hill died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004 at his residence.
Services were held Monday, Aug. 23 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Dr. David Leavell and Dr. Jerry Oakley officiating.
Interment was in Bellwood Cemetery.
Mr. Allen was retired as an electrical technician with Bell Systems and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
He was born in Stewart County on July 5, 1930 to the late Theodore and Mayme George Allen.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Stokes Allen of Cedar Hill; a son, Boyce (Kim) Allen of Springfield; a daughter, Rebecca Allen of Springfield; brothers, Arvel Allen of Waverly, and Max Allen of Leeds, Ala.; sisters, Neva Hancock of Asheville, N.C., and Sandra Crosslin of Dadeville, Ala., and four grandchildren.

Gerald Royce Callis
Gerald Royce Callis, 67, of White House died Friday, Aug. 20, 2004.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 23 at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in White House with Norman Slate officiating. Sons and sons-in-law served as pallbearers.
Graveside services and interment were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23 at DeKalb County Memorial Gardens.
Visitation was held Sunday, Aug. 22 from 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Callis was survived by his wife, Irma Callis; sons, Steven Perry (Patti) Callis, Richard Gene (Ellen) Eidson, Mark Stephen (Shannon) Eidson, and Jeffrey Scott (Wendy) Eidson; daughters, Pamela D. Callis (Steve) Nyikos, and Sheila Marie (Mike) Dennis; brothers, Jerry, Ed and Larry Callis; sisters, Connie Colson and Evelyn Shipman; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mildred Doss
Mildred Doss, 83, of White House died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004.
Services were held Saturday, Aug. 21 at 1 p.m. with Brother Glenn Dyer and Brother Porter Jennings officiating. Pallbearers were family members and friends. Interment was in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Visitation with the family was Friday, Aug. 20 from 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Doss is survived by her husband, Cordell Doss; a son, Frank Doss; sisters, Mattie Johnson of White House, and Ann Hazel of Cartersville, Ga.

William Lee Hand
William Lee Hand, 63, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004 at NorthCrest Medical Center.
Services were held in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield. Interment was in Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Hand was born in Robertson County on July 9, 1941, to the late J.C. and Molene Chester Hand Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Johnnie Morris Hand of Springfield; sons and daughters-in-law, Troy and Judy Hand, and Tommy and Kim Hand, all of Springfield; daughters and sons-in-law, Tina and Michael Redfern, Queenie and Melvin Earls, all of Cedar Hill, and Terri and Robert Gregory of Franklin, Ky.; brothers, J.C. Hand Jr. and Billy Wayne Hand, both of Springfield; sister, Elsie Hall of Greenbrier; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were Troy Hand, Tommy Hand, Jeremy Miller, Josh Reed, J.T. Rogers Gregory, Justin Redfern, Johnathan Redfern, Vince Hand and Ethan Earls.

Harriet Inez Russell
Harriet Inez Russell, 47, of White House, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004.
Mrs. Russell is survived by her husband, Dale Russell; sons, Chris Wales and Robby (Michele) Wales; parents, Brother Robert and Joan Lemay; brother, Charles Lemay; sister, Mille Johnson; grandchildren, Kristen Wales and Jordan Wales.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24 at Cherry Mound Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Lemay and Rev. Gary Thompson officiating. Interment was in Bethlehem Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tony Tate, Jerry Crawford, Rick Sanders, John Ward, Gary Sowell, Dale Thompson and James Thomas.
The family received friends from 2-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21 at Austin and Bell Funeral Home in White House.

Sylvia Marie Smith
Sylvia Marie Smith, 83, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004.
Funeral services were held in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 21with Brother Keith Howell and Brother Marvin Crouch officiating.
Interment was in the Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Smith was born in Livingston, Tenn.. on Sept. 4, 1920 to the late Bill and Cassie Qualls Walker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Smith, a daughter, Evalene Smith Wilson, a son, Eugene Ray Smith, brothers, Lonzo and Fonzo Walker, and a great-granddaughter, Lyndsey Evalene Wilson.
She was retired from Acme Boot Company.
Mrs. Smith is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Maxine and Ray Hester, a daughter-in-law, Deborah Smith, a brother, Casto Walker, all of Springfield; grandchildren, Tony Lance of New York City, Brian (Wanda Kay) Lance of Springfield, Phillip Lance of Franklin, Tenn.., Melody (Tim) Moulton of Springfield, Darrell Wilson of Springfield, Gena (Donnie) Brake of Greenbrier, Sara (Shawn) Anderson of Memphis, Leah (Chris) Hornbuckle of Springfield; great-grandchildren, Wade Lance, Dirk Moulton, Edwin Lance, Kandis Lance, Zack Moulton, Dalton Lance, Autumn Wilson, Savanna Lance, Hunter Wilson, Waverly Brake and Heath Hornbuckle, and a great-great-granddaughter, Gracie Lance.

Ralph Alexander Moreland
Ralph Alexander Moreland, 42, of LaPlata, Md., died at Civista Medical Center on Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004.
Memorial services were conducted at the Huntt Funeral Home in Waldorf, Md., on Monday, Aug. 23 with a brief graveside service on Wednesday at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
He was born in LaPlata on June 20, 1962 and was a graduate of the Thomas Stone High School class of 1980.
Mr. Moreland was an automotive machinist with Waldorf Tire and Advanced Automotive.
He enjoyed bowling and golfing,
He is survived by his parents Robert Alexander and Ellen Marie Sheets Moreland of Springfield and Sharon J. Wilson of Springfield, along with aunts, uncles, and many dear friends.

Mary Carlene McCroy, 87, of Adams, died on Sunday, Aug. 21, 2004 at North Crest Medical Center.
Funeral services were held in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield on Tuesday, Aug. 24 with Bro. Bruce Cunningham officiating.
Interment was in the Bellwood Cemetery.
She was born March 10, 1917 to the late Rufus Charles and Mattie Elizabeth Watts Jackson.
Mrs. McCroy is preceded in death by her husband, David Hunter McCroy, Sr.; grandson, Matthew Ian McCroy; nine brothers; one sister.
She is survived by two sons, David Hunter (Denise) McCroy, Jr., Richard C. McCroy, both of Adams; granddaughters, Laura Renee McCroy and Margaret Paige McCroy.
Pallbearers for the service were Neil Jackson, Bobby Ray Jackson, John Bailey Nolan, John Mantooth, Glenn Jackson and Kenneth Ferrell.
