June Joiner Shockney
June Joiner Shockney, 76, of Springfield, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at NorthCrest Medical Center in Springfield.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, Aug. 6 at 10 a.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Rushing and Bro. Paul Perdue officiating.
Burial followed at 3 p.m. in Maplelawn Cemetery in Paducah, Ky., with Father Larry McBride officiating.
Mrs. Shockney was born June 24, 1928, in McCracken County, Ky., to the late Dallas Webb and Electra Grey Miller Joiner.
She was a member of Main Street Church of Christ in Springfield and was retired from Metro-Davidson County School systems where she was a cafeteria manager.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Morgan Shockney and brothers, Billy Joe and James Webb Joiner.
Survivors include a son, Eddie L. (Vivian) Shockney of Clarksville; daughters, Patricia (Samuel) Binkley of Goodlettsville, Joyce A. (Junior) Holly of Troy, Barbara (Joe) Cissell of West Paducah, Ky., Nancy (Lannie) Hanley of Lewisburg, Ky., Debbie Mauck of Ashland City, Diane (Donnie) Leftrick of Springfield; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren.

Rowena Porter Dowlen
Rowena Porter Dowlen, 90, of Houston, Texas, died Saturday, July 31, 2004.
Graveside services were conducted Wednesday, Aug. 4 at 1:30 p.m. in the Kentucky Veteran’s Cemetery in Hopkinsville, Ky., with Rev. Duane Cowan officiating.
Miss Dowlen was born Dec. 22, 1913, in Gulfport, Miss. to the late Comer Milton and Elizabeth Porter Dowlen.
She has worked as a research specialist in Hyattsville, Md., and was a retired professor of Home Economics from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
She was a World War II veteran, where she served as a Specialist Personnel Supervisor with the U.S. Navy and was active in the WAVES.
Survivors include many cousins and friends.

Mary Elizabeth Baker
Mary Elizabeth Baker, 82, of Nashville, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at Baptist Hospital.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Aug. 7 in the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home with Dr. N. Lavan Modling and Pastor Tom Wilkins officiating.
Burial followed in Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Baker was born April 18, 1922, in Robertson County to the late George Thomas and Thadie Cox Britton.
She was a member of the Methodist Church and was a retired textile worker with Tennessee Tufting.
She loved gardening and cooking.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Thomas Britton and a sister, Nellie Anderson.
Survivors include sons, David (Nina) Baker of Clarksville, Danny (Terri) Baker of Pegram, Roger (Kathy) Baker of Madison; brothers, Willie Britton of Springfield, Earl Britton of Springfield, Marshall Britton of Knoxville, Harold Britton of Louisville, Ky., Joe Britton of Owensboro, Ky.; a sister, Virginia Edgin of Lousville, Ky.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Nashville Humane Society, Covenant Baptist Church Building Fund or Bethel Cumberland Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.

Alyffe Spicer Jarrell
Alyffe Spicer Jarrell, 87, of Springfield, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, at Ridgetop Haven Nursing Center.
Her remains were cremated and services will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Jarrell was born March 9, 1917, in Mineral, Va., to the late Van and Ethel Trice Spicer.
She was a retired bookkeeper and was a member of Springfield Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Arlon Jarrell of Springfield; sons, Nelson G. Peregoy of Brick, N.J., and Steve Jarrell of Springfield; a daughter, Kathryn L. Peregoy of Springfield; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

Nellie Mai Dorris
Nellie Mai Dorris, 87, died at NorthCrest Medical Center Monday, Aug. 9, 2004.
Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, Aug. 11 at 10 a.m. at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Bro. Jewell Pruitte and Bro. Bill Owen officiating.
Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens.
She was a sales clerk at Robbie’s Dress Shop before retirement.
She was born in Greenbrier Aug. 8 to the late Frank M. and Mary Emma Woodruff Bedwell.
She is also preceded in death by her husband, Millard Woodrow Dorris, four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Danny Dorris of Springfield and David and Jean Dorris of Pensacola, Fla.; four grandchildren, Benjamin Dorris, Andrew Dorris, Della Durkee, D’Anne Weaver; four great-grandchildren, Micah Weaver, Noah Weaver, Kaleb Weaver and Eliana Durkee.
Pallbearers were Ross Fann Jr., Don Eden, Homer Felts, John Wayne Allen and Greg Atylot.

Carol Goulding Rice
Carol Goulding Rice died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at his home in White House. He was formerly from Arlington, Va.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 5 at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in White House.
Mr. Rice was born Dec. 16, 1929, in Wheeling, W. Va., to Charles F. and Amelia Barth Rice.
He was retired from George Washington University School of Engineering.
He was also an Air Force veteran and active in the American Legion in Virginia.
In 2003, he married Betty Meadows Longwith and they returned to White House to make their home.
He loved working in the yard and garden and they enjoyed traveling.
He was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a host of friends from his chat room, special friends, Dale and Barbara Lowery, Clovis, C.A. and Colleen Turner of Nashville.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Sumner County Hospice in his name.
Sylvia Annette Crunk
Sylvia Annette Crunk, 61, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 9 at 3 p.m. with Bro. Steven Lee officiating.
Honorary pallbearers were Betsy Kirby, Sharon Webb, Marie Wright, Carlene Jernigan, Linda Brooks, Charles King, Bobby McCormick, Bill Bandy, Tim and Brenda Roney, Gary Leftwich, Beth Leftwich, Gayle Acuff, and Rubye Wilson.
Active pallbearers were Charles Smiley, Eddie Ray Wilson, Oscar Webb, Joe Kirby, Jason Fuller, and Ventura O’Conner.
Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Mrs. Crunk is preceded in death by her husband, F. Parker Crunk and mother, Loyce D. Baird.
Survivors include daughters, Dena (Mike) Tidwell and Paige Crunk; father, Robert W. Baird; grandchildren, Amber West (Nathan), Brandon Leftwich (Sara), Casey Tidwell; great-grandchild, Layla Paige West; a sister, Holly D. King; niece and nephew, Jamie Fuller, Jason (Brittany) Fuller; in-laws, Dr. George and Mary Ann Hagan, John and Peggy Crunk, Bruce and Barbara Crunk, Ernest and Bonnie Crunk; aunt and uncle, Ann and Charles Smiley.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or to White House First United Methodist Church Endowment Fund.
