Jack Brewington
Jack Brewington, 94, of Springfield, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at Hill Crest Nursing Home in Ashland City.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 13 at Austin & Bell Funeral in Springfield with Bro. Jon Fuqua officiating.
Interment followed in the Elmwood Cemetery.
He was born June 23, 1909, in Adams to the late Bertie and Roxie Brown Brewington.
He was a retired farmer and security guard.
He is also preceded in death by his wife, Martha Gill Brewington, a son, Edward Dean Brewington, a brother, Ernest Brewington, and a sister, Cleo Grogan.
Survivors include a sister, Catherine Shepard of Stroudsville; several nieces and nephews

Calvin C. Davidson
Calvin C. Davidson, 79, of Adams, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at Centennial Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield Wednesday, Oct. 15 (today) at 2 p.m. with Bro. Doug Downing and Bro. Ken Gillespie officiating.
Visitation with the family will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Burial will follow in Bellwood Cemetery.
He was born Feb. 20, 1924, to the late G.W. and Ida Suter Davidson.
Mr. Davidson was a retired farmer, a retired member of the Robertson County School Board and an active member of the Red River Baptist Church in Adams.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, G.C. Davidson, Marvin Davidson and sisters, Anna Christopher, Lucille Ellis and Edna Mangrum.
A brother, Wilson Davidson, also survived Mr. Davidson, but shortly after Calvin’s death, Wilson died the same day at NorthCrest Medical Center.
He was married for 50 years to the former Genell Fletcher.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, are a son and daughter-in-law, Fletcher and Jo Ann Davidson of Adams; a daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Bert Tolleson, also of Adams; and four grandchildren.

Paul Thomas Yates
Paul Thomas Yates, 85, of Springfield, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at McKendree Manor in Hermitage.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 12 at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Dr. Farris Moore officiating.
Interment followed in Elmwood Cemetery.
He was born July 19, 1918, in Cross Plains to the late Walton and Lucy Groves Yates.
He is the retired owner of Orlinda Milling Company.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brother, Sowell J. Yates and a sister, Alice Yates Payne.
Survivors include his wife, Everette Katherine Givens Yates of Springfield; a son and daughter-in-law, John Paul and Harriett Yates of Springfield; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Shane Shoemaker; and six grandchildren.

Gertrude Bush Head
Gertrude Bush Head, 80, died Oct. 9, 2003.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Oct. 12 at Austin & Bell Funeral Home with Bro. Paul Purdue officiating.
Interment followed at Memorial Gardens.
She graduated from Springfield High School in 1940 and attended Peabody College where she studied music.
She was a homemaker and taught piano at Cross Plains Elementary School and in her home for more than 40 years.
She is remembered fondly by many as “Miss Gertrude.”
She was a devoted member of New Chapel UMC where she played piano faithfully for more than 25 years.
She was a devoted friend to many and even though a shut-in for years herself she always sent cards and letters of inspiration to family and friends and had many special friends she wrote regularly over the years that she lovingly referred to as her “Blue Bird Friends.”
She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Robert C. and Gertrude Holder Bush, a brother, Robert Bush Jr. and sister, Thelma Bush.
Survivors include her loving and devoted husband, Charles Elliott Head Sr.; son, Landon “Don” (Shirley) Bush Woolford Head; daughter, Charlene Powell (John) Sullivan; son, Charles “Chuck” (Gina) Elliott Head Jr.; a daughter, Sara Beth Head; grandchildren, Janet (Don) Bowman, Kim (Mike) Hicks, Tommy Scercy Jr., Charles (Sandy) Darren Scercy, Justin Lee Wilson, Lorene Mae Sullivan, Charles Edwin “Chucky” Head, Jamie Ryan Head, Abbey Elizabeth Head and Tyler Jackson Head; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Ursula Ruth Smith
Ursula Ruth Smith, 53, of Greenbrier, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at NorthCrest Medical Center.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday Oct. 11 at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Greenbrier with Bro. Ron Lowery officiating.
Mrs. Smith’s remains were cremated.
She was born March 4, 1950, in Leater, Germany, to William and Ellen Giest Felske.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Robert Wayne Smith of Greenbrier; sons, Bryan William Smith of Cross Plains, James Robert Smith of Donelson; a daughter and son-in-law, Heidie and Chris White of Cross Plains; five grandchildren, Hunter William Smith, Zachary Smith, Andrew White, Tyler White and Abriana Smith; and a sister, Barbara Walter of Fort Smith, Ark.

Mildred R. West
Mildred R. West, 89, of Milwaukee, Wis., formerly of Springfield, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at the Jewish Home Care Center in Milwaukee.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Oct. 16 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Dr. Farris Moore officiating.
Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, Oct. 15 (today) from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was born in Springfield April 30, 1914, to the late William S. and Carrie Green Ruffin. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Leonard R. West.
Survivors include a daughter, Carrie L. West of Milwaukee; several cousins, Mary Elizabeth Stammer of Springfield, Bettye Ruth Balthrop of Mt. Juliet, Beulah Mae Bell of Mt. Juliet, Betty Jane Cunningham of Morgan Hill, Calif; a brother-in-law, Donald L. West of College Dale; and several nieces and nephews by marriage.

Alvin Ray Balthrop
Alvin Ray Balthrop, 74, of Chapmansboro, died at Gateway Medical Center in Clarksville Monday, Oct. 13, 2003.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 15 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Bro. Randall Wright officiating.
Interment will follow in the Mallory Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, Oct. 15 (today) from 4 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Balthrop was retired from Cheatham County Highway Department.
He was born in Cheatham County on Nov. 1, 1928, to the late Elbert S. and Martha Elizabeth Morris Balthrop.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by a son, David Balthrop, brothers, Burton Balthrop, R.W. Balthrop and Dorris Balthrop.
Survivors include brothers, J.B. (Dot) Balthrop of Franklin, Albert (Rosa) Balthrop of Chapmansboro, Frank (Nell) Balthrop of Chapmansboro, Clyde (Dimple) Balthrop of Cedar Hill; sisters, Dorothy Hudgens of Chapmansboro, Frances (Will) Head of Cedar Hill, Dimple (Noel) Gupton of Chapmansboro, Bonnie Moore and Faye (Jimmy) Murphy, all of Pleasant View.
