Claire Marie Walker
Claire Marie Walker, 82, of Springfield died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at NorthCrest Medical Center.
Funeral Mass was conducted Friday, Sept. 26 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Desmond as celebrant.
The interment followed in Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Walker was born April 12, 1921, in McKeesport, Pa.
She was a retired bus driver and was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
Mrs. Walker was preceded in death by her husbands, Frank Schlatt and Bill Walker, son, Frank Schlatt, a brother, Clifford Wise, sister, Lenora Shlapak.
Survivors include sons, Paul Schlatt of Greenbrier and William Sullivan of McKeesport, Pa.; a brother, Donald Wise of N. Versailles, Pa.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
Robertson County Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mildred Elizabeth Neal
Mildred Elizabeth Moudy Neal, 85, of Springfield, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, at Morningside of Springfield.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30 in the Oakhurst Chapel with Rev. J.C. Greenwell and Dr. Farris Moore officiating. Doris Crawford and Mary Schott rendered music.
Pallbearers were Tony Neal, Brent Neal, Eric White, Taylor Neal, Scott Porter and Lance Hodge.
Interment followed in Elmwood Cemetery.
She was born Oct. 16, 1917, in Robertson County, to the late Leonard and Margaret Felts Moudy.
Mrs. Neal retired from Springfield Housing Authority, with 30 years of service, much of which time she served as Director.
She was also a member of Mt. Sharon Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert “Sonny” Neal, a daughter, Judy Kay Neal, a brother, William L. Moudy and a sister, Lynette Powell.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby Lynn and Mary Ellen Neal of Greenbrier, and Charles H. and Margaret Neal of Holly Springs, Miss.; a daughter and son-in-law, Betty Neal and Bob White of Waynesville, N.C.; a brother, Charles E. Moudy of Murfreesboro; two sisters, Lorene Nelson of Nashville, and Mary Frances Griesbach of Hendersonville; eight grandchildren, Tony Neal, Brent Neal, Mary Beth Hodge, Libby Porter, Julie Heifet, Eric White, Taylor Neal, and Shannon Forrester; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family requests donations be made to Mt. Sharon Cumberland Presbyterian Church. All donations may be sent in care of Robertson County Funeral Home, 2201 Memorial Blvd. Springfield, TN 37172.

Jerry Wayne Douglas
Jerry Wayne Douglas, 58, died Sept. 21, 2003.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25 at the White House Chapel of Cole & Garrett Funeral Home with Rev. James Hubbard officiating.
Mr. Douglas was a veteran of the U.S. Army, holding the rank of sergeant and served as a medic in Vietnam.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Mildred Douglas.
Survivors include brothers, George Douglas, Robert Douglas, and Donnie Douglas, all of Springfield; sisters, Cheryl Douglas of Cross Plains, Mary Ann Adcock of Springfield, Mary Ruth Douglas of Mt. Juliet, and Evelyn Rediker of Cross Plains; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Tony Abston
Tony Abston, 49, of Adairville, Ky., died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at his home.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 1 p.m. in the Young Funeral Home, Russellville Chapel with Bro. Carl Freudenthal, Bro. Buddy Crabtree and Bro. Jerry Shelton officiating.
Burial followed in Maple Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Abston was born in Logan County, Ky., June 11, 1954, to the late Jesse Joe Abston and Martha Bailey Abston.
He was self-employed, served in the National Guard and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie Baker Abston; three daughters, Monica McLean, Stacey Moon and Lisa Moon, all of Adairville, Ky.; two brothers, June Abston of Adairville and Joe Abston of Portland; six grandchildren.

Nannie Florence Rogers
Nannie Florence Rogers, 76, of Franklin, Ky., died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, at her home.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 2 p.m.
Burial followed in Sulphur Springs Cemetery.
A native of Simpson County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late George McGee and Annie Jane Poole McGee.
She was a member of Adairville Baptist Church and was retired from the Dana Corporation.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Morgan Rogers.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmie Rogers, and wife Diane, of Springfield; Jerry Rogers of Franklin, Ky.; three daughters, Maxine Mumford, and husband Tony, of Franklin, Ky., Margaret Ann Creek, and husband Thomas, of Russellville, Ky., and Penny Mayhugh of Morgantown, Ky.; a sister, Christine Summers of Franklin, Ky.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

William Theron Akins
William Theron Akins, 88, died Sept. 10, 2003, at his home after a brief illness.
Memorial services were held at Trinity Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13.
He graduated from Trezevant High School, attended Bethel College, McKenzie, and taught for two years in the elementary grades of Carroll and Weakly Counties, before entering the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
There he received a BS degree in U.S. History, Government and Politics.
He then accepted a position as a history teacher at Springfield High School, a position he held for four years.
He also served as the baseball coach and as the assistant football and basketball coach to the well-known and highly respected coach, W. Boyce Smith.
He worked on his Master’s degree at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge until interrupted by World War II.
During the war he served first as a civilian instructor in the U.S. Air Force and after entering the military he continued as an Air Force Instructor completing his service with Southeastern Training Command assigned to the B-29 program.
For the past 36 years he was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Nashville where he served twice as an elder and as a teacher of the adult Bible Class.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 96, McKenzie, from 1936 until his death. He was also a member of the Springfield Lions Club, the Huntsville Exchange Club and an active alumnus of the University of Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Akins of New York City, who died in 1946.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Josephine Humphrey Akins, formerly of Springfield; sister-in-law, Marie Fann (Ross); cousins, Maureen McClure Hopper of Atwood, and Frances McClure Foster of McKenzie.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church, 3601 Hillsboro Rd. Nashville, or to Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson St., Nashville, TN 37203.

Jack Lynn Head
Jack Lynn Head, 59, died suddenly at his home on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 16 at Austin & Bell Funeral Home with Rev. David Lay officiating.
Interment followed in Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Head, owner of Jack L. Head & Associates Surveyors and is a third degree mason.
He was born in Robertson County on March 28, 1944. He was the son of the late Ray V. and Margaret King Head.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by a brother, Ricky Head.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Mary Jo Richards Head; a son and daughter-in-law, John Marcus and Nicole Head; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Jack Tillman, all of Springfield; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tommy and LuAnn Head, Joe and Debbie Head and Kathy Head; a sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Odis Swallows Jr., all of Springfield.
Pallbearers were Tuck Tinsley, Danny Head, Billy Batson, Kenny Threatt, James Arthur Brown, Ross Fann, J.L. Shelton, Kenneth Head, David Gunn and Jim Fletcher. Honorary pallbearers were the Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class of Cedar Hill United Methodist Church.
