Artis Benton
Artis Benton, 76, of Cross Plains, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at his home.
Funeral services were held 1 p.m. at Beards Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Taylor officiating.
Burial followed at Northside Cemetery.
He was born July 21, 1926, in Robertson County to the late Joe and Susan Bell Benton.
He professed a belief in Christ at an early age and was baptized in Beard’s Chapel Baptist Church.
He served on the Trustee Board until his failing health disabled him.
He retired from Unarco Industries after 30 years of service.
He was a farmer in Robertson County. This month includes three major events for Mr. Benton: His birth, his marriage and his journey home to God.
Three brothers, Edward, Joe, James Benton and a sister, Ruby Scott preceded him in death.
Survivors include Annie Mai Smith Benton, his loving wife of 59 years; three children, Jasper (Frances) Benton of Nashville, Evelyn Louise Benton and Donald Ray Benton of Cross Plains; two grandchildren, Dawn Renee’ Benton of Nasvhille, Curtis Benton of Gallatin; a sister, Jean Brewer of Portland; a brother, John (Jeanette) Benton of Evansville, Ind.; sister-in-laws, Elizabeth Benton, Dorothy (George) Brooks, brother-in-law, Jasper Smith; a host of nieces, nephews and caring in-laws and friends.
Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Harold “Sam” Davis
Harold “Sam” Davis, 64, died at his residence Sunday, July 6, 2003.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 9, at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Chapel with Bro. Melvin Brooks and Bro. Gene Brown officiating.
Burial followed at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Davis was born in Robertson County, Aug. 4, 1938 to the late Ben and Eunice Shepard Davis. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Margie Suiter Davis.
He was a retired truck driver for Yellow Freight and a tobacco farmer.
He was also a member of Stroudsville Church of Christ.
Survivors include his sons, Randy Davis and Greg Davis, both of Stroudsville; brother, Darold Davis of Pleasant View; a sister, Peggy Jean Elliott of Stroudsville; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Tippy Shepard, Willie Stroud, Tommy Winters, Kyle Jordan, Sammy Bryant, Brad Holt, Terry Head, Ray Balthrop, Mark Head and Jay Barnett. Honorary pallbearerswere members of the Stroudsville Sportsman Club.
McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home were in charge of arrangements.

Mackenzie Mofield
Mackenzie Cheyenne Mofield, two-month-old daughter of Christy and Scotty Mofield, died Thursday night, July 10, 2003, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Funeral services for Mackenzie were held at the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Homes on Sunday afternoon, July 13 with Bro. L.B. Watts officiating.
Interment followed in Gordonsville Cemetery.
She was born April 23 at University Medical Center in Lebanon.
She had a heart transplant June 1 at Vanderbilt Medical Center.
Survivors include her parents, Christy and Scotty Mofield of Alexandria; maternal grandmother, Diana Elliott of White House; maternal grandfather, R.P. Elliott of LaVergne; paternal grandmother, Tammy Cox of Monoville; paternal grandfather, Ricky Mofield of Rock City; maternal great-grandmother, Patricia Jordan of White House; maternal great-grandmother, Leslie Elliott of Madison; maternal great-grandfather, Ron Elliott of Madison; paternal great-grandfather, Herbert Newbert of Monoville; paternal great-grandfather, Albert Lee Mofield of Rock City; maternal great-great-grandmother, Blanche Elliott of Maryland; aunts and uncles, Dana Elliott, Brianna Armistead, Joey Mofield and Seth Gray Mofield.

Mildred Lee Jones
Mildred Lee Jones, 92, died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Imperial Manor in Madison. Funeral services were held Sunday, April 6 at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Greenbrier with Rev. Frank Evans officiating.
Interment followed in the Bethel Cemetery.
Mrs. Jones was born March 24, 1911, in Robertson County to the late Willie Washington and Rosie Lee Webb Warren.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by husbands, Hassell Jones and Ollie Carlton, a sister, Westella Jones.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Arsdell (ret. Navy) and wife Barbara Jones, of Ridgetop, Pastor Timothy and wife Yvonne Jones of Miracle Baptist Church in Madison and Police Commissioner Billy Lee and wife Betty Jones of Murfreesboro; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister-in-law, Vanessa Coke; and special friend Melanie Morris.
Pallbearers were the Honor Guard of the Murfreesboro Police Department. Honorary pallbearers include the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Murfreesboro Police Department and Miracle Baptist Church.
Austin & Bell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lucy Ellen Smith
Lucy Ellen Smith, 89, died Saturday, April 5, 2003.
Funeral services were held at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield Monday, April 7 with Bro. Michael Smith and Rev. Tommy Marsh officiating.
Interment followed in Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Smith was born in Simpson County, Ky., May 3, 1913, to the late Jack and Lillie Richardson Hickman. She is also preceded in death by her husband, James Turner Smith.
Survivors include a host of family members and special friends, which include Ray and Mary Pugh of Nashville, Sheila and Carl Matthews of Greenbrier, Rachel Matthews of Greenbrier, Don, Vicki, Chaya and Lynsey Pugh of Hermitage, Joyce Dowlen of Springfield, and Leslie, Marilynda, Justin and Jennie Dean of Springfield.
Austin & Bell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Linda Faye Wright
Linda Faye Wright, 60, died at her home in Springfield Friday, April 4, 2003.
Memorial services were held Monday, April 7 at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Rev. Ron Lowery officiating.
She was born in Robertson County March 7, 1943, to the late John Browning and Betty Blackburn Braswell.
Survivors include her husband, Mike Wright of Springfield; daughter, Gwyn Thomas of Wichita, Kan.; step-daughter, Elizabeth (Sammy) Jennings of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a brother, Larry (Frances) Browning of Centerville; half-brothers, Dickie (Lynne) Braswell of Springfield, Terry (Julie) Braswell of White House, Lawrence (Helen) Browning of Portland; half-sister, Judy Hooper of Springfield; step-sisters, Sara (Ken) Gamble of Nashville, Marjorie (Roy) Bennett of Nashville, Martha (James) Lewis of La Vergne; and four grandchildren.
Austin & Bell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Joanne Marie Brown
Joanne Marie Brown, 56, died Monday, April 7, 2003, at Alive Hospice, Nashville.
Visitation will be with the family Wednesday, April 9 (today) and Thursday, April 10 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, April 11 at 11 a.m.
Interment will follow at Palmers Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Ray Brown of Hendersonville; daughters, Sonia Kyle of Hendersonville, Mandy (Ricky) Meadows; sons, Christopher (Ginger) Kyle of Portland, Shane (April) Brown of Greenbrier; grandchildren, Dillon Parz, Corey and Kimberly Kyle, Austin and Joshua Meadows, Kara Brown; a sister, Sandra Vanagus of Orlando, Fla.
Austin & Bell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
