Mamie Smith Bucy, 98, of Murfreesboro, died Sunday, July 25, 2004.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Jim and Savannah Rutledge Smith.
She is survived by daughters Margaret Hayes, of Woodbury, Clara Irwin, of Lebanon, Ill., and Helen Harris, of Stockbridge, Ga.; sons Johnny Bucy, of Marietta, Ga., James Bucy, of Smyrna, L.G. Bucy, of Athens, Tn., and Charles Bucy, of Eagleville; sister Evelyn Barrett, of Eagleville; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Mrs. Bucy was married to the late Ogle Bucy, who died in 1978. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and a homemaker.

Russell Puckett, 96, of Eagleville, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004, in Shelbyville following an extended illness.
Mr. Puckett was a native of Bedford County and was the son of the late Charlie Caswell and Elizabeth Arnold Puckett. He was an aviator, serving in the United States Army during world War II. He was a retired president of the Bank of Eagleville, former owner of the Puckett Grocery Stores, former manager of Jackson Heights Shopping Center in Murfreesboro and an avid pilot. After retiring he was the owner and operator of Puckett Field in the Rover community. He was a member of the Rover Baptist Church.
Mr. Puckett was preceded in death by his first wife, Sue Ferguson, who died in 1985.
Survivors include wife Nora Carothers Puckett, of Shelbyville, formerly of Lewisburg; stepdaughter Betsy Shelton, of Lewisburg; and nieces and nephews Janice Poor, of the Rover community in Bedford County, Anita Crosslin, of Ridgeland, S.C., Jim Puckett, of Murfreesboro, and Joe Earl Crosslin, of Nashville.

Rayburn Lowe, 72, of Murfreesboro, died Monday, July 19, 2004, at National Health Care.
A native and lifelong resident of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late William M. and Fannie Lee Brandon Lowe. He was a Baptist and a self-employed body shop worker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Ogles Lowe.
Survivors include brothers Raymond and Harry Lowe, both of Murfreesboro, and Larry Lowe, of Rockvale; and sister Agnes Lovvorn, of Barfield.

Marquerite “Jenny” Tillman Brake, 76, of Unionville, died Tuesday, December 28, 2004 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro. Mrs. Brake was a native of Nashville and a daughter of the late Johnny and Rosetta Rusher Tillman.
Survivors include daughters Mrs. Lynn Oxley Hall of Unionville; and Mrs. Teresa DiCicco of Brownstown, Michigan; sons Dewey Brake of Garden City, Michigan; Michael Brake of Unionville; and Eddie Brake of Unionville.
She was a homemaker. Mrs. Brake was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Leverette who died earlier this year.

Charles Warner Sanford, 82, of Chapel Hill, died Tuesday, December 28, 2004. Mr. Sanford was a native of Williamson County and was a retired farmer. He was a son of the late Lucille Warner Sanford and Granville T. Sanford, Sr. He was preceded in death by a son, James G. Sanford and by his brother, Thomas R. Sanford.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Pauline J. Sanford of College Grove; sons Charles B. Sanford of Nolensville; and John W. Sanford of College Grove; daughter Karen L. Hatcher of the Flat Creek Community; brother Granville T. Sanford, Jr. of Nolensville; 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Marie Neal Hill, 72, of Cowan, died Monday, July 19, 2004, at her residence.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Evans and Mildred Irene Reed Neal. She was a member of the Church of God and the former owner of Hills Grocery at Concord.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Robert Hill, Sr.
Survivors include sons James H. Cunningham Jr., of Rockvale, and John Hill, of Cowan; daughter Judy Melhorne, of Morristown; sisters Mattie Pearl Potterfield and Gracie Robinson, both of Murfreesboro; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Alice Doris Potts, 68, of Rockvale, died Sunday, July 18, 2004 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center.
A native and life long resident of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Everet Lawton and Estell Tucker Parker. She was retired from Samsonite Corporation and was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Hollis Dayton Potts, sons Wendell Craig Potts of Murfreesboro, David Bruce and Samuel Dayton Potts, both of Rockvale, and Carey Joseph Potts of Kentucky; daughters Wanda Fay Johns of Lascassas, Pamela Carlene Burns and Paula Teresa Riley, both of Murfreesboro; brothers William Parker of Nashville and Jimmy Wayne Parker of Woodbury; 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Evelyn Manier Avaritt, 76, died Saturday, July 17, 2004 at National Health Care.
A native of Berkeley, Calif., Mrs. Avaritt was the daughter of the late David Lemuel and Nina Lee Manier. She had lived in Murfreesboro and Eagleville most of her life. She retired as assistant vice president with Suntrust Bank and was a member of Bellwood Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, George "Ike" Avaritt of Murfreesboro; sons Phillip Wayne Stephens of Winchester and Daniel Wade Stephens of Murfreesboro; stepsons David Avaritt of Arizona and Dan Avaritt of Memphis; stepdaughter Jane Aden of Memphis; brother Edward Lemuel Manier of Eagleville; sisters Hazel M. Carlton of Normandy and Mary Alice Crick of Little Rock, Ark.; and seven grandchildren.

Tommy Morton, 70, died Friday, July 16, 2004 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center.
A native of the Barfield Community, he was the son of the late Minus and Myrtle Williams Brown. He was a member of the Barfield Baptist Church, a former employee of Sears and Rich Products and a retired farmer.
Mr. Morton was married to the late Rosie Mangrum Morton who died in 1985. He also was preceded in death by brothers Roy Morton and William H. Morton and sister Margaret Manus.
Survivors include daughter Terri Bagsby of Massillon, Ohio; brothers Minus Morton of Bradyville, Joe B. Morton of Westland, Mich., and Donald Morton of the Kittrell community; sisters Emma West of Rockvale and Mary Lois Perry of Christiana; granddaughters Michelle, Amy and Shalyn Raney; grandson Thomas Potts; and great-grandchild McKenzie Raney.

Joanna Leigh Mayes, 36, of Rockvale, died Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at her home.
A native of Charleston, S.C., she was the daughter of Paul Howard and Theresa Ethel Graham Harrelson of Hanahan, S.C. She was a member of the East Main Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, survivors include her husband, James Lee Mayes; sons Garrett Mayes and Brady Mayes, both of Rockvale; daughter Hannah Mayes of Rockvale; brother Jared Harrelson of Thompson Station, Tenn.; and grandmother Grace Harrelson of North Charleston, S.C.
