Troy Lee Vandiver was born April 23, 1936 in Pocahontas, TN, the son of the late Lawrence Calvin and Ruthie Earl Goodrum Vandiver.
He was united in marriage to Jewel Hall on April 14, 1956. Mr. Vandiver was a operating engineer for H.C. Price pipeline construction. He belonged to the International Union of Operating Engineers. He was a member of the Fountain of Life in Smyrna, Tennessee and formerly a member of Bethel Springs church of God.
Mr. Vandiver departed this life on October 10, 2009 in Eagleville, Tennessee at the age of 73 Years, 5 Months, 17 Days. He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Jewel Vandiver of Eagleville; two daughters, Karen Jadoobirsingh and husband Wayne of Eagleville, Charlotte Hallman and husband Tim of Cleveland; two sons, Calvin Vandiver of Murfreesboro, Tommy Vandiver and wife Bonita of Bethel Springs; eleven grandchildren, Ginger, Jarrod, Kristen, Laurie, Jacob, Ryan, C.J., Blake, Micah, Michael, Gabriel; five great grandchildren, Abby, Sasha, Faith, David, Benjamin ; a sister, Shirley Sikes and husband Jackie of Henderson; a brother, William Earl Vandiver and wife Lorine of Sand Point, ID.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Vandiver was preceded in death by a son, Steve Alan Vandiver; a sister, Viola Riley; a brother, Roy Vandiver.

Sandra Burklin Williams, age 68, of College Grove, died October 9, 2009 at her residence following an extended illness. A native of Davidson County, Mrs. Williams was a daughter of the late Oscar Kenneth Burklin and Edna Marie Carrington who survives. She was a homemaker and a retired nurse.
Survivors are two daughters; Shannon Takara of Rapid City, SD and Clara Williams of Brooklyn, NY; four sons, Brian Williams of Hendersonville, Rolland Williams of Franklin, Gamble Williams of McDonough, GA and Burk Williams of College Grove; two sisters, Janice Nix of Huntsville, AL and Jill Taylor of Jackson; her mother, Edna Burklin of Hazel Green, AL; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Brooksie Pugh, age 79, of Unionville, died Friday, October 2, 2009 in Shelbyville. Mrs. Pugh was born in Marshall County and was a daughter of the late Albert and Ethel Mae Culver Sharp. She was a member of Bough Berlin Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was a homemaker and retired factory worker. Mrs. Pugh was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Bill Pugh who died in 2002, a daughter, Betty of Newsom and a son, Danny Pugh.
She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Benson of Gladstone, MI, Sue Moore of Unionville; two sons, Johnny Pugh and Joey Pugh, both of Unionville; a sister, Ann Metcalf of Milltown Community of Marshall County; two brothers, Albert Sharp, Jr. of Ft. Smith, AR, Billy Sharp of Elgin, IL; ten grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren.

Gertrude Perry, age 88, of S. Kings Hwy., went to heaven to be with our Lord on Thursday, October 1, 2009. She was a native and lifelong resident of Rutherford County. She was a homemaker as well as a member of Kings Chapel Baptist Church. She was a wonderful devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Our loss is heaven’s gain.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Mack Perry; son, U.S. Air Force Captain Dennis Michael Bain; and parents, Richard and Tennie Johnson Bain. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Mark McElhiney of Murfreesboro; brothers and their wives, James and Helen Bain of Rockvale, Homer and Mary Helen Bain of Lebanon, Jimmy and Brenda Fitzgerald of Unionville, Thomas and Marie Bain of LaVergne and Billy Bain of Murfreesboro, as well as two grandsons and their wives, Chris and Tosha McElhiney and Michael and Lindsey McElhiney.

Merle Smith, age 80, of Rockvale, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009 in Murfreesboro. Mrs. Smith was born in Lincoln County, and was a daughter of the late William Lloyd and Frances Josephine Sullivan Sowell. She was a member of Rockvale Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Rockvale. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and was a retired bookkeeper for Crosslin Supply Company in Eagleville. For 17 years, Mrs. Smith was the pianist for the Stem Quartet which performed throughout Tennessee, Alabama and Kentucky.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Allen Smith of Rockvale; one daughter, Linda Smith Adams of Murfreesboro; one son, Rev. Eddie Smith of Murfreesboro; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

James Colten "Cole" Hirlston, infant, of Murfreesboro, passed away Sunday, September 27, 2009 at Alive Hospice Residence. Cole was preceded in death by his Uncle Lance Corporal J.D. Hirlston and great-grandfathers, James Monroe Hirlston, Don Layhew Sr., and B.R. Huskey. He is survived by his parents, Jerry and Jessica Hirlston of Rockvale; brother, Jonathan Mahon; grandparents, Don Layhew Jr. of Christiana; Monica Layhew of Rockvale; James and Melvina Hirlston of Rockvale; Judy Hirlston of Hendersonville; great-grandparents, Barbara Layhew of Milton; Mary Hirlston of Murfreesboro; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Mr. Landon C Haynes, age 84, of Chapel Hill, Tenn., died Tuesday, September 22, 2009. Mr. Haynes was a native of Marshall County and was a son of the late Peril Clyde and Zelma Perryman Haynes. He was a graduate of Community High School in Unionville and served in the Army National Guard. He was a carpenter, painter and lifelong farmer. Mr. Haynes was a lifelong member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church. He was also a member and active in the Marshall County Co-op, and the Marshall County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed politics and was active on the County level. Mr. Haynes was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Faye Potts Haynes who died in 2002 and by a daughter, Virginia Louise Agnew who died in 2004.
He is survived by a daughter, Debbie (Jim) Rowland of Readyville; two sons, Ben (Donna) Haynes and Jeff (Kathy) Haynes, both of Chapel Hill; five sisters, Bessie Roberts of Lewisburg, Beulah Russell of Georgia, Ruth Burris of the Rover community, Mary Leverette of Unionville and Betty Woods of Chapel Hill; three brothers, Jimmy Haynes of Unionville, Johnny Haynes of Georgia and David Haynes of the Verona community of Marshall County; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Laura Virginia "L.V." Sanders Hudson, age 89, of the Rover Community of Bedford County, died Sunday, September 20, 2009. Mrs. Hudson was born in Williamson County and was a daughter of the late Eugene Cleveland and Mahalia Palestine Potts Sanders. She was a homemaker and was a long time member of the Rover Community Club. Mrs. Hudson was a life long member and former Sunday School teacher at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Rover. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Moore Hudson, who died in 2005.
Mrs. Hudson is survived by three daughters, Barbara Juanita Beasley of the Rover Community, Virginia (J.T.) Taylor of Shelbyville, Janice Faye (Ronnie) Sudberry of Shelbyville; seven grandchildren, Al Beasley, Mark Beasley, Mike Spence, Carrie Brooke Simmons, Laura Lynn Allison, Ronald Blake Sudberry, Ellen Leandrea Simmons; twelve great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren.

Carolyn Crowell, age 68, of Unionville, died Saturday, September 12, 2009. Mrs. Crowell was a native of Marshall County and was a daughter of the late Robert Caril and Mattie Bell Perryman Haynes. She was a homemaker and was a retired seamstress have worked for Durango Boot Company of Chapel Hill and Hyperion Corp. of Lewisburg. Mrs. Crowell was a member of Clay Hill United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Clarence A. "Slick" Crowell of Unionville; two sons, Robert (Shannon) Crowell and David (Patty) Crowell, both of Unionville; four grandchildren, Veleda Crowell, Bradley (Candy) Stewart, Carol Ann Crowell and Michelle Crowell

Lori Douglas, 19, of Christiana passed Friday, September 11, 2009 at Vanderbilt Medical Center. Lori was a native of Murfreesboro and a 2009 graduate of Riverdale High School. She was Commander of the JROTC Female Raider Team and a member of the Rutherford County Sherriff’s Explorers Program. Lori attended Rockvale Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Kingdom Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Lori was preceded in death by her grandparents, Richard J. and Dot Douglas. She is survived by her father, Richard "Ricky" Douglas Jr of Midland Community; mother, Lynn Smith of Christiana; sister, Jessica Lachance of Woodbury; brothers, Richard "Ritchy" (Jennifer) Douglas of Soddy Daisy and Leland Douglas of Christiana; grandparents, Clarence and Flora Smith of Christiana; nieces, Abby and Ashtyn; aunts and uncles, John and Teresa Schmidt of Christiana, Frank and Sandra Heaton of Midland community, Chase and Nona Douglas of Murfreesboro; several cousins.
