William "Bill" Elmore Bennett, age 79, of Cookeville, died Thursday, January 8, 2009 at Livingston Regional Hospital. A native of Rutherford County, Mr. Bennett was a son of the late Dick Owen and Myrtle Vaughn Bennett. He was retired from TRW as a quality engineer in the rocket division in California. Mr. Bennett was a veteran of the Army-Air Force, a Mason and a member of Mt. Vernon Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Eagleville and attended Shiloh United Methodist Church in Livingston.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Bennett of Cookeville; three sons, William Elmore Bennett, Jr. of Atlanta, GA, Charles Richard Bennett of Sanford, NC and Tony Allen Bennett of Frederick, MD; one brother Rex Bennett of Austin, TX; six grandchildren.

Mary Jo Manier, age 82, of the Holts Corner Community of Marshall County, died Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at her residence. A native of Marshall County, Mrs. Manier was a daughter of the late Harold and Ocia Lee Barnes Fuller. She was a homemaker and was a member of Promise United Methodist Church. Mrs. Manier was active in the United Methodist Women and for many years was active in the former Holtland Home Demonstration Club.
Survivors include her husband, Don Manier of Holts Corner, a daughter, Judy Manier of Holts Corner, a son, Hal Manier of Holts Corner; two sisters, Christine Cochran of Phil Campbell, AL and Ruth Bullock of Holts Corner; four brothers, Harold Fuller of Chapel Hill, Gordon Fuller of the Farmington community, Dan Fuller of Triune and Allen Fuller of Murfreesboro. She was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Fuller and a sister, Nancy Fuller.

Ralph Willis "Peter" Bailey Jr., age 56, of Rockvale passed away January 3, 2009 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He was a native of Elmhurst, IL and had lived in Rutherford County for the past three years. Peter was a self employed composer and musician as well as the Sales Manager for Swanson Christian Products.
Peter was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Willis Bailey Sr. and Catherine Elizabeth (Parrish) Bailey, as well as his sister Lynne Cater. He is survived by his wife, Mary Santos Bailey of Rockvale; two daughters, Jennifer Galloway of Oklahoma and Debra McDaniel of Michigan; one brother, David Bailey of Illinois; and three sisters, Carole Smith of Illinois, Joyce Webb of Florida and Martha Polk of Arizona. Peter is also survived by five grandchildren, Morgan, C.J., Stella, Natalie and Alissa due on Feb. 14.

Lucy Kate Norris Lumpkin, 85, of Rockvale, formerly of Clarkesville, Georgia, went to be with her heavenly Father Tuesday, March 15, 2005.
She was a native of Habersham County, Georgia, and was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Rockvale.
She was a daughter of the late Thomas Henry and Ethel Lucindy Gabriel Norris. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years: John Merion Lumpkin, who died in 1998; daughter Doris Smith; and grandson David Kemp.
She is survived by daughters Mrs. Emily Barr, of Rockvale, and Ann Kemp, of Brookland, Michigan; son Larry Lumpkin, of Clarkesville, Georgia; sisters Mrs. Louise Norris, of Modesto, California, Mrs. June Howard, of Toccoa, Georgia, and Mrs. Ellen Elrod and Mrs. Emma Sliger, both of Demorest, Georgia; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

James Owen, age 64, of Eagleville died Thursday, March 3, 2005, in Murfreesboro.
A native of Moore County, Mr. Owen was the son of the late Henry B. and Margaret Matilda Meeks Owen. He was a former police officer for the City of Eagleville and was retired from Recom Plastics of College Grove.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Owen of Eagleville; daughters Lisa (Don) Drake of Lewisburg and Sherry Owen of Eagleville; sons Mark (Jeanie) Owen of Shelbyville, Bradley Owen of Eagleville and Jeff (Karen) Owen of Fosterville; brother Bob Owen of Lynchburg; and seven grandchildren.

Lillian Petersen Jackson, 76, of Murfreesboro, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at Northside Health Care Center. She was a native of Orange, New Jersey, and spent most of her life in New Orleans, Louisiana, and St. Petersburg, Florida. She had been a legal secretary with Geico Insurance Co. and a member of Advent Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Charles and Elna Christensen Petersen; stepmother Piete Petersen; and husband Clyde A. Jackson.
Mrs. Jackson is survived by daughter and son-in-law Piete and Jim Ferguson, of Rockvale; and three grandchildren: Jimmy, Charlie and Billy.

Mary V. "Snookum" Little, 90, of the Rockvale community of Rutherford County, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, in Murfreesboro.
A native of Rutherford County, she was a homemaker. She was a member of Mt. Vernon Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her father and mother: Hugh and Clara Ray Scott; her husband, Raymond L. Little, who died in 1998; and by a brother: Norman Scott.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Vivian L. and Steve Spencer, of Rockvale; sister Alene Clifton, of Rockvale; step-granddaughter Tracy Amos, of Columbia; step-great granddaughter Haleigh Amos, of Columbia.

Mary Giles Lytle, age 89, passed away on Thursday, February 17, 2005. She is preceded in death by her father and mother: Blake A. Giles and Blaine Martin Giles; her husband, Ephraim F. Lytle; sister Robbie M. Giles; three brothers: Walter Giles and wife Audrey, Henry Giles and wife Roberta and B. A. Giles. She is survived by two sons: Thomas F. Lytle and wife Judy of Ocean Springs, Miss., Robert E. Lytle and wife Brenda of Warner Robins, Ga.; three grandsons: Robin Lytle and wife Kim of Florida, Chris Lytle and wife Gina of Indiana, and Brian Rader of Tennessee; five great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her niece, Connie Wright, husband Edmund and their children in Murfreesboro were always faithful in their visits and care. She held them in a special place in her heart. She is survived by Tom Thompson, a longtime Murfreesboro family friend and neighbor who helped Mrs. Lytle through many medical crisis.
Mrs. Lytle was born in Eagleville on Aug. 27, 1915, graduating from Eagleville High School as valedictorian at age 15. She practiced as a beautician in Murfreesboro until her retirement. After retirement, she kept up her active membership at First Baptist Church of Murfreesboro, doing volunteer work in the Christian Life Center. She delivered for Meals on Wheels and was active in the Senior Citizens Center of Murfreesboro. She always found time to visit friends and family. She could always be counted upon to keep everyone laughing at her sharp wit and sense of humor.
Mrs. Lytle lived at Stones River Manor in Murfreesboro from 2001-2004 where she received loving care and kindness. She lived three years to the fullest while receiving treatment for Alzheimer's at the Stones River Geriatric Clinic in Woodbury. Her health worsened, necessitating a move to Summer's Landing in Warner Robins, Ga. Recurring infections and a recent heart attack ended her life on the morning of February 17, 2005. Her sons, Tom and Bob, vividly remember in several life threatening situations during the past two years that Mrs. Lytle prepared herself to be with her Lord and was completely at peace with her relationship with Him. It gives great solace to her family to have witnessed her open discussions about her mortality as well as her intense love and trust in her Lord.

Ruby Mae Carter, 92, of Murfreesboro, died Thursday, February 17, 2005.
A native of Manchester, she was the daughter of the late William and Martha Tomlin Cornlison.
She is survived by daughters Christine Bandy, of Nashville, and Lucille (Robert) Thompson and Lucy (Roy) Underwood, both of Murfreesboro; son Grover (Dot) Carter Jr., of Camden; daughter-in-law Lela Carter, of Rockvale; 23 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by son James Carter and husband Grover Cleveland Carter. She was a member of New Zion Church of Christ and was a devoted wife and mother.

Grady H. Covington, 91, of Rutherford County died Wednesday, February 16, 2005, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center.
Funeral services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Donnie Clayton officiating. Burial will be at Carlton Cemetery.
A native of Rockvale, Mr. Covington was the son of the late Rosco and Lillie Wilson Covington. He was a member of the Rockvale Church of God and a graduate of Rockvale High School.
Survivors include sons Howard Covington of Woodbury, Billy Towns of Nashville and Barry Towns of Texas; daughters Lola Reneau of Westmoreland, Elaine Johnson of Charlotte and Brenda Etearnes of Kentucky; brother James Covington of Rockvale; sister Vera Covington of Rockvale; and 10 grandchildren.
