Halina Z. Lowe, age 78, of Arrington died Sunday, November 30, 2008 at her residence. A native of Luck, Poland, she was the daughter of the late Karol and Natasha Zielinska. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bay Lowe.
She is survived by her daughter, Margarita (Johnny) Gann, three grandchildren, Michelle (Thomas) McEwen, Christina (Simon) Gartung and Bobby (Becky) Gann, all of Arrington; six great grandchildren, Jessica McEwen, Daniel Pharris, Alison Pharris, Connor Gartung, Brendan Gann and Brody Gann; two sisters, Maia Kuhn of New Jersey and Olga Ortiz of Colorado; and many nieces and nephews.
She was a survivor of the Holocaust and was retired from G.E.

Pearl N. Tolmie, age 72, of Rockvale, died Monday, November 24, 2008 at Stones River Hospital. She was born in Chicago, Ill. and was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Violet Keck Rupp.
She is survived by her husband, Edgar Tolmie; daughter, Melody Waller of Charleston, W.Va.; son, Vernon Tolmie of Atlanta, Ga.; and two grandchildren, Lila Waller and Nicholas Waller.
Mrs. Tolmie was a former employee of K-Mart in the food service department.

Marvin Smotherman, age 86, of the Cedar Grove Community of Bedford County, died Sunday, November 23, 2008. Mr. Smotherman was born in Bedford County and was a son of the late Thomas Walter and Ora Blanche Beasley Smotherman. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was retired from the City of Detroit, Department of Parks and Recreation. Mr. Smotherman was a member of the Cedar Grove United Methodist Church, the Unionville Lions Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Irene Marlin, Katherine Newman, Frances Hall, Annie Smotherman and by two brothers, Clayton Smotherman and Cornell Smotherman.
Mr. Smotherman is survived by his wife of 49 years, Shirley Smotherman, Cedar Grove Community; two daughters, Sharon Smotherman of Cedar Grove Community and Kendra Smotherman of Townsend, Tenn; son, William Smotherman of Cedar Grove Community; brother, Ernest Herman Smotherman of Huntsville, Ala.

Dorothy Mai Maupin Scott, age 80, of Murfreesboro, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at her residence. Mrs. Scott was a native and life-long residence of Rutherford County. She was a homemaker and a member of Eagleville Baptist Church.
Mrs. Scott was preceded in death by her parents, John D. and Mable Maupin; brother, Ollie B. Maupin and her first husband, John Oscar Tune and her second husband, S.D. Scott. She is survived by her daughters, Juanita (Roy) Davenport of Murfreesboro; Corrine (James) Walden of Murfreesboro; sisters, Mary Ruth Fulton of Murfreesboro; Mildred Briley of Murfreesboro; Marion Haynes of Franklin; Carlene Huff of Murfreesboro; brothers, J.D. Virginia Taylor Jackson, age 98, of the Rover Community died Tuesday, November 18, 2008 in Franklin. She was a native of Bedford County and a daughter of the late William Cullen and Emma Denton Epperson Taylor. Mrs. Jackson was also preceded in death by her husband, Ivin B. Jackson, who died in 1944. She was a retired teacher with 19 years of service with the Bedford County and Rutherford County schools, a homemaker, and a member of the Enon Primitive Baptist Church.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

John Douglas Rogers, age 87, of Chapel Hill, died Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia. A native of Marshall County Doug was the son of the late Walter and Maude White Rogers. Mr. Rogers was the retired manager of Horton Highway Utility District, a former Mayor of the Town of Chapel Hill, a member of the Chapel Hill Lions Club for 40+ years, a member of the VFW, and a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. A veteran of the Army Air Corps during World War II, he flew 35 missions as a crew member with the 839th Bomb Squadron.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Taylor Rogers of Chapel Hill; a sister, Margaret Sanders of Lewisburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Ronnie Lee Baxter, Sr., age 46, passed away November 14, 2008. Mr. Baxter was native and life-long resident of Rutherford County. He was a self-employed contractor.
Mr. Baxter is preceded in death by brother, Lonnie Baxter. He is survived by his father, James (Pat) Baxter of Unionville; mother, Thelma Timberlake of Murfreesboro; his wife, Lynn Baxter; son, Ronnie "Bubba" Baxter, Jr. of Woodbury; daughters, Amanda Baxter of Murfreesboro, Kristina Baxter of Missouri, and Vickie Lynn Steele of Murfreesboro; and brothers, Donnie Baxter of Simpsonville, S.C., Robert Baxter of Woodbury, Billy Baxter of Unionville, Mike Brewer of Wartrace, Jesse Brewer of Wartrace, and Steve Brewer of Shelbyville; three granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

Thurman Mason Lee, age 95, of Smyrna, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2008. A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Roy Douglas and Sallie Thomas Lee.
He is survived by his sisters, Sadie Holt of Nashville, Estelle Wood and Tillie Hager, both of Smyrna, and Elene Butts of College Grove; brothers Roger Lee and Raymond Lee, both of Smyrna, Robert Lee of Joelton and Norman (Preacher) Lee of Almaville. He was preceded in death his wife, Ruth Webb Lee, and brothers Roy Lee, Ricks Lee, and William Thomas Lee.

Jean Waters, age 64, of Shelbyville, died Sunday, November 9, 2008 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.
A native of Bedford County, Mrs. Waters was a daughter of the late Tom and Frances Gentry Davis. She was a retired Certified Nursing Assistant with Glen Oaks Convalescent Center of Shelbyville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Freeman.
Survived by a daughter, Patricia Presley of Shelbyville; 3 sons, Charles Waters, Jr. of Wartrace, Tommy Waters of Shelbyville, and Ronnie Garrett, Jr. of Wartrace; 2 brothers, Tom Davis of Shelbyville and Sam Davis of Unionville; 6 grandchildren.
