Mayme "Ma" Leverette, age 80, of Kewanee, Illinois, formerly of Unionville, died Thursday, July 24, 2008 in Dewanee after an extended illness. Mrs Leverette was a native of Marshall County and was a daughter of the late Everette Houston and Ruby Emma Adeline Haynes Slaughter. She was a homemaker and was retired from Nelson Sprinkler Company of Princeville, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Elroy Leverette who died in 1972, by a daughter Barbara Reynolds who died in 1989 and by four grandchildren.
Mrs. Leverett is survived by two daughters, Wilma Gonzales of Chapel Hill, Sandra Jenkins of Kewanee, IL; six sons, James F. Leverette of Longview Community of Bedford County, Larry Leverette of Shelbyville, Clifford Leverette of Chapel Hill, Allen Leverette of Chapel Hill, Kevin Leverette of Kewanee, IL, David Leverette of Galva, IL; three sisters, Jean Sanders of North Ford Community of Bedford County, Ruth Moore of Unionville, Alice Haskins of Chapel Hill; 37 grandchildren; 107 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren.

Roger Kent Brothers, age 61, of Unionville, died Saturday, July 19, 2008 in Nashville. Mr. Brothers was a native of Rutherford County and was a son of the late Effie and Leland Brothers, Sr. He was a graduate of the Class of 1964 from Community High School in Unionville and was a member of Fairlane Church of Christ in Shelbyville. Mr. Brothers was a retired Chief Warrant Officer with the Tennessee National Guard having retiring in 1998 after 38 years service, most of which he was an auditor for the Guard. He was very active in public life including serving as Chairman of the Northwest Bedford Public Utilities Board, PTA President, Charter Member of the Unionville Fire Department, member of the Bedford County Civil Defense/Auxiliary Police and was a charter member of the Unionville Jaycees. Mr. Brothers was also very involved with youth sports programs including coaching Little League and Babe Ruth teams, coached USSSA softball teams, officiating TSSAA high school basketball and softball, as well as holding offices in Junior Pro, Little League and Babe Ruth programs. He was a Bedford County Commissioner for 30 years where he served on many committees and boards. During his tenure as a commissioner, he was an advocate for financial officer for the County Mayor’s office and was selected as a Man of the Year by the Unionville Jaycees.
Mr. Brothers is survived by his wife, Janice Allen Brothers of Unionville; daughter, Sherry Brothers Anderson and husband, Tony of Unionville; son, Chris Brothers and wife, Tracey, of Shelbyville; sister, Annette Brothers Anderson of Unionville; three brothers, Leland (Buddy) Brothers, Jr. of Unionville, Joe Brothers of Elizabethtown, KY, Miles Brothers of Unionville; five grandchildren, Kristen, Logan and Addison Brothers, McKenzie and Rylie Anderson.

John Larry Sewell, age 66 of Murfreesboro, went home on July 11, 2008. A native of Rockvale, he was born on July 14, 1941, to the late Leo Larrymore Sewell who died in 1971, and Pauline Hall Sewell who died in 1988. Mr. Sewell was also preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Sewell who died in 1990.
Survived by son and daughter -in- law, Todd and Mary Sewell of Murfreesboro; daughter and son-in-law, Cyndee and Jamie Bradford of Rockvale; grandson, Dillyn Bonds of Rockvale; granddaughters, Rachel and Ashley Sewell both of Murfreesboro, and Jayln Bradford of Rockvale; one great grandson, Drew Sewell of Murfreesboro. Other survivors include brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Mary Sewell of Murfreesboro; nephew, Wayne (Kathy) Sewell of Murfreesboro; niece, Jane (Ronny) Wilson of Florida and also several great nieces and nephews. Mr. Sewell is also survived by various friends, Charlie Todd, Kenneth and Donna Brown, Dwight Britton, Kenny and Kathy Steagall, Dick Steagall, Horace Holder, Ed and Pat Anderson, Rena Eaton, Cary and Jamie Henderson, Gene and Ilene Clifton, Ross Holder Misty Luckett, Tammy Odonell and rest of the staff and volunteers at Caris in Murfreesboro, and Dr. E. C. Tolbert and staff.

Robert "Bob" Franklin Hendrix,
age 85, of Eagleville, died July 8, 2008 at Veterans Hospital in Nashville. He was the son of the late Frank and Rachel Hale Hendrix.
He was first married to the late Rosalie Dalton Hendrix and then to the late Ella Sears Vaughn Hendrix.
He is survived by his daughters Judy (Vernon) Mooneyham of Rockvale and Nancy (Vernon) Smotherman of Smyrna; four grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Mr. Hendrix was a U.S. Army veteran having served during World War II. He was of the Baptist Faith and a retired mechanic.

A native of Bedford County, Mrs. Griffy was a daughter of the late Thomas Elroy and Delia Carlton Leverette. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Griffy was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Griffy; 2 sisters, Myrtle Sherrod and Wilma Leverette; and 4 brothers, James, Mitchell, Dorris and Doyle Leverette.
Survived by her husband, Sewell Griffy of Unionville; 2 sons, Jeff (Janice) Griffy of Columbia and Mark Griffy of Unionville; 2 brothers, Roosevelt and Marvin Leverette of Unionville; 3 grandchildren, Patrick, Andrea and Kyle Griffy.

Delgay Read McElroy, age 65, of Murfreesboro died July 2, 2008 at National Healthcare Center. She was a native of Rockvale. She was preceded in death by her father, Hollis Read.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Larry McElroy; daughters, Hollie (Tim) Adcock, Jackson and Terrie (Ashley) Hayes, Rockvale; mother, Mrs. Guy Gordon Read, Murfreesboro; brother, Pettus (Judy) Read, Rockvale; grandchildren, Jackson and Caroline Adcock; sister-in-law, Becky Augustine, Lawrenceburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. McElroy was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church and a retired school teacher having taught at Holloway High School and David Youree. She was a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University. She was preceded in death by her brother, Tommy Read.

John D. Byous, 81, of Rockvale passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center. Mr. Byous was a Mastor Mason for 50 plus years of the Grand Lodge of Texas City, Texas and was a member of Rockvale Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps. While in the Navy he was honored with the Victory World War II medal.
Mr. Byous was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Gladys Byous. He is survived by his wife, June Byous of Rockvale; two daughters, Alice (Jim) Fernie of Texas and Jan (Mark) Watson of Rockvale; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Retired Sgt. 1st Class James Paul Reeves, age 79, of Murfreesboro passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center. A native of Oxford, Ark., he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1947 and retired in 1970 after 23 years of service. He was in the 87th Airborne Division, and served in World War II - occupied Germany and based in occupied Japan until his service in Korea War. He served 3 tours in Vietnam and then retired. He graduated with a Criminal Justice Degree from MTSU and was Chief of Police of Eagleville for a number of years. While in the military, he received numerous medals. These include the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal with 5 campaign stars, Master Parachutist Badge and many more. He was a paratrooper, and was the originator of the paratrooper club of Fort Campbell.
Sgt. 1st Class Reeves was preceded in death by his first wife, Maude Gee and his parents, Owen and Mable Owens Reeves. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Cortner Reeves of Murfreesboro; children, Christopher Cortner and Barbara Cortner-Holland; brothers, Tom May and wife Nancy of Exeter, MO and Don Readshaw of Checter, VA; sisters, Elizabeth Ross of Hermosa Beach, CA and Imo Sharmon of Carlsbad, CA; many nieces and nephews; uncle, Gerald Owens of Jessup, MD; aunt, May Owens of Neosho, MO; and cousins, Joe Cash, Betty Watson, David Cash and Jack Skidmore.

Edward Dean Corley, age 67, of Murfreesboro, TN, died June 13, 2008 at his home. He was a native of Rutherford County and the son of the late Nat and Mary Jane Harris Corley.
