(October 2, 1982 - June 26, 2014)

Desiree Hattingh, 31, of Christiana, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2014 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital.

She is survived by her husband, Callum Hattingh; son, Kai Hattingh and daughter, Harper Hattingh, all of Christiana; parents, Dayton and Ellen Reese and brothers, Mark and Mike Reese, all of Murfreesboro.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 1, 2014 from 12:00 pm until the Celebration of Life Service at 1:00 pm at Murfreesboro Funeral Home.

Rebecca Jane Kendrick Parsley
(Died July 1, 2014)

Rebecca Jane Kendrick Parsley, age 85, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, entered her heavenly home on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 after an extended illness.

She was born in Murfreesboro, to the late Burton and Ruby Pratt Kendrick.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Louis Gene Parsley, and her daughter, Donna Jean Parsley.

She is also preceded in death by her brother, James Kendrick, and her two sisters, Lena Freeman and Francis Robinson.

She is survived by her son Dillard Parsley and his wife, Shirley of Murfreesboro, and five grandchildren, Russell Parsley and his wife, Callen of Maryville, Robin Dillard and her husband, Kevin of Murfreesboro, Edward Rettman and his wife, Margaret of Wichita Falls, Texas, Kimberly Jane Kosirog and her husband, James of Bradyville, and William Franklin Taylor and his wife, Wendy of Dallas, Texas, and nine great-grandchildren to include Sarah Parsley, Anna Grace Dillard, Hank Dillard, Sadie Dillard, Grant Dillard, Christopher Kosirog and wife, Casey, Justin Kosirog, Rebecca Rettman and Rhonda Taylor.

She is also survived by two brothers, Al D. Kendrick and Archie Kendrick and one sister, Ruby Woodard and many nephews and nieces.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff of Northside Healthcare and Alive Hospice for their care.

She was born on July 7, 1928 and grew up in Coffee County, as the third child of six.

She was a devoted wife to her husband and was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Her interests included trail-riding horses, living in the country and keeping a garden.

She was a member of Third Baptist Church in Murfreesboro.

The family will receive friends from 4:00pm – 8:00pm on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Murfreesboro Funeral Home in Murfreesboro.

Funeral service will be Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 11:00am at Murfreesboro Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Hudson officiating.

Burial and graveside service to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Murfreesboro, with family and nephews serving as pallbearers.

Wayne Vandiver
(September 1, 1945 - May 6, 2014)

Wayne Vandiver, 68, of Shelbyville, previous resident of Kittrell Community, passed away Tuesday, May 06, 2014 at his residence.

Mr. Vandiver was born in Lawrence County, AL, to the late Olen Henry and Lydia Virginia Vandiver.

He worked 21 years at Hennessy in LaVergne, until he owned P & W Discount.

He attended Charity Baptist Church.

Mr. Vandiver was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Vandiver of Shelbyville; children, Dale (Ruth) Vandiver of Michigan; Danny (Jennifer) Vandiver of Murfreesboro; DeAnna (Jim) Wilson of Christiana; grandchildren, Alan-Michael, Brandon, Jordan, Kelsey, and Hannah Vandiver, Keith (Lindsey) Schuster, Taylor Wilson; great grandchildren, McKenzie and Karley Vandiver; sisters, Betty Green of Alabama; Doris (Bob) Kurek of Alabama; Louise Liles of Waynesboro, TN; and brother, Doug (Cathy) Vandiver of Alabama.

Visitation with the family will be Thursday, May 8, 2014 from 4:00pm – 8:00pm at Murfreesboro Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be Friday, May 9, 2014 at 2:00pm at Murfreesboro Funeral Home with Pastor Danny Hale officiating.

Burial to follow at Tucker Cemetery.

Mary Gladys Sledge
(June 30, 1926 - June 2, 2014)

Mary Gladys Sledge, 87, of Murfreesboro, passed away Monday, June 2, 2014 at her residence.

Mrs. Sledge was a native and life-long resident of Rutherford County.

She was a homemaker and a member of Oaklands Baptist Church.

Mrs. Sledge was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Jefferson and Florence Willie Jernigan, husband, Charlie Applin Sledge who passed away April 14, 2014, son, Rev. Randy Sledge, Brothers, T.R. and Billy Jernigan, sisters, Vergie Lee Bailey and Pauline Priest.

She is survived by her son, Nathan (Norma) Sledge of Nolensville; daughter, Becky Roden (Roy Monroe) of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Colby Sledge (Lindsey); Micah Sledge (Lindsay); David Roden; Amanda Sledge; Nicholas Roden; Brooke Sledge; daughter-in-law, Brenda Sledge of Murfreesboro; brother, Elvis Jernigan of Murfreesboro.

Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, June 4, 2014 from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm at Murfreesboro Funeral Home.

Graveside service will be Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 2:30 pm at Roselawn Memorial Gardens with Bro. Jim Frazier officiating.

In lieu of flowers family ask for donations be made to Sledge Family Memorial Fund in the name of Nathan Sledge, LifeWay Credit Union, One LifeWay Plaza, Nashville, TN 37234.

The family would like to say a special thanks to her caregivers, Kim Calderon and Amy Hardman.

Beth McAlister Smith
(April 23, 1960 - May 31, 2014)

Beth McAlister Smith was born on April 23, 1960, and passed from this life on May 31, 2014 at age 54.

Beth is survived by Richard Smith, her loving and devoted husband of 15 years, and her beloved dogs Mr. Bosco and Little Tess.

Beth was the daughter of the late Dorothy Wilson McAlister of Fayetteville, Tennessee, and William Donald McAlister of Old Hickory, Tennessee, who survives.

She is further survived by her step-mother, Vickie Haley McAlister.

Beth is also survived by loving brothers and sisters through marriage, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew and cousins galore.

Beth’s childhood was spent in Fayetteville, where she attended Central High School and was very active and involved in many activities and clubs.

She attended college at Middle Tennessee State University, graduating in 1983 with a B.S. degree in psychology.

While at MTSU, she was a member and president of Alpha Delta Pi sorority.

Beth did not know a stranger and was a friend to all. Lifelong friends and church family meant the world to Beth.

Her greatest achievement in life was when she served as Executive Director of Rutherford County Habitat for Humanity.

Under her leadership of 12 years, Beth was part of 82 families realizing their dreams of home ownership.

Another of Beth’s greatest joys was working with Murfreesboro Noon Rotary Club.

She joined this organization in January of 2004 and served in many capacities, and was its president during 2009-2010.

Beth’s favorite local service project was the Dictionary Project.

During her years as the chair of the committee, over 10,000 dictionaries were distributed to third graders in Murfreesboro and Rutherford County.

Beth and Richard worshipped with the congregation at Rural Hill Church of Christ in Antioch, Tennessee.

In lieu of flowers, a contribution to Rutherford County Habitat for Humanity, Rural Hill Church of Christ, Rutherford County Humane Society or P.A.W.S. would have pleased Beth immensely.

Visitation with the family will be Saturday, June 7, 2014 from 10:00 am until the Celebration of Life at 1:00 pm at Murfreesboro Funeral Home with Bro. Russ King and Bro. Dan Dozier officiating.

Patrick Morgan
(August 15, 1954 - August 15, 2011)

Patrick Morgan, 57, of Antioch, passed away Monday, August 15, 2011 at his residence.

Mr. Morgan was a native and life-long resident of Davidson County.

He was an active coach for Little League and softball teams for the Buchanan Community and Rutherford County.

Mr. Morgan is survived by his parents, Larry and Betty Morgan of Nashville; sons, Jonathan Morgan of Murfreesboro; Sgt. First Class Josh Morgan of Ft. Polk, LA; and grandchild, Caroline Grace Morgan.

Visitation with the family will be Thursday, September 1, 2011 from 5:00pm-8:00pm at Murfreesboro Funeral Home.

Burial will be private.

Thelma Myers
(July 12, 1921 - October 5, 2011)

Thelma Myers, age 90, of Murfreesboro, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at her residence.

Mrs. Myers was born in Panama, to the late Macario and Babbina Diaz.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Catholic Faith.

Mrs. Myers was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harley Lawson Myers; 1 brother and 5 sisters.

She is survived by her daughter, Marian Myers of Murfreesboro; and brother, Jose Diaz of Wilmington, DE.

Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, October 11, 2011 from 9:00am – 11:00am at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Land O Lakes, FL.

Funeral mass will be Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at 11:00am at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Land O' Lakes, FL.

Burial to follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens.

Mary Frances Dyer
(Died August 16, 2011)

Mary Frances Dyer, 82, of Murfreesboro, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Middle TN Medical Center.

Mrs. Dyer was born in Davidson, to the late Ed Gaines and Mamie Cleo Walker.

She was a member of the Bible Church of Jesus for 63 years where she was a Sunday school teacher, served as church secretary, and hospital visitation.

She was a very dedicated Christian, a wonderful and loving mother and wife.

Her life was a beautiful example to her children and grandchildren and to all whose lives she touched by her love.

Mrs. Dyer was preceded in death by her parents, Ed Gaines and Mamie Cleo Walker, husband, Jim Cephas Dyer; brothers, Clifford Gaines, James Eugene and Billy Joe Walker; sisters, Lonnie Gay and Lillie May Walker; son, James Michael Dyer; grandsons, Joshua Brian Haley and Eric Jones; son-in-law, Jerry Bain.

She is survived by her son, Gary Lynn (Kathleen) Dyer of Murfreesboro; daughters, Deborah Eileen Bain of Smithville and Joy Renee (Bill) Griffith of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Gary Lynn Dyer; Melissa Burns; Donald, Phillip and Darlene Bain; Daniel and Trevor Haley; Timmy and Tammy Dyer, Angie Lokey; Becky Mooneyham; 18 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; three very special friends, Martha White, Joyce Wilson and Marie Stacey.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 17, 2011 from 3:00 pm-8:00 pm at Murfreesboro Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be Thursday, August 18, 2011 at 3:00 pm at Murfreesboro Funeral Home with Bro. John Tipton, Bro. Johnny Turner and Bro. Terry Chapman officiating.

Burial to follow at Coleman Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Haley, Trevor Haley, Donald Bain, Phillip Bain, Jimmy Burns, Scottie Lokey, Gary Lynn Dyer.
