For Benjamin:
God loaned you to me, though it was just for a little while.
Because He knew you would be the one, to always make me smile.
The love you gave to me, is most definitely beyond compare
If I searched the world over, I couldn't find it again, anywhere.
People said it wouldn't last, our cultures' too far apart
But love, at least, is color-blind, it lives within the heart.
You told me once, "Don't cry for me, for I am going home."
I don't cry for you, I cry for me, for now I am alone.
But at Christmas time, I will rejoice, and I won't shed a tear.
Because I know, with all my heart, you'll celebrate with God this year.
- Your Loving Wife

Robert James Bell
Lie-in-State Location: Bethel Missionary Baptist Church
Date: October 29, 2004 Time: 11 a.m. - 12 noon
Funeral Location: Bethel Missionary Baptist Church
Date: October 29, 2004 Time: 12 noon
Interment Location: Evergreen Cemetery
Robert James Bell was born on August 7, 1923 to the late Robert and Annie Bell and was the seventh of eight children. He received his education from the Rutherford County school system. In 1938, he professed his faith in Christ under the leadership of the late Reverend Charles Evans, of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.
In November, 1942, he was united in holy matrimony to Sadie M. Malone and seven children were born of this union. He spent three years (1942 – 1945) in the United States Navy during World War II and later moved his family to Chicago, Illinois. For the next 35 years, he worked for the United States Postal Service. During that time, in 1971, he was ordained as a minister, under the leadership of Reverend Thomas F. Lee of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Chicago.
After retiring from the post office, he moved back to Smyrna, Tennessee, and was reunited with Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, where he became an associate minister. His mellow, laid back and never-in-a-hurry personality was very soothing for his ministry of people. In his spare time, Reverend Bell loved to play chess and when he was in his 70’s, he even learned how to play the internet version of chess. Watching wrestling on television was also one of the things that he enjoyed. He also read the Bible often and was a wonderful father and grandfather for his family.
In June 2002, he moved to Texas, due to his failing health. On Friday, October 22, 2004 at 8:30 in the morning, it was deemed by God that Robert James Bell’s walk was worthy of him and He called him unto the Kingdom of Glory. He peacefully joined his brothers, Clarence Bell, William Allen Bell and George Bell; his sisters, Annie Tears and Emma Drew; his wife, Sadie Mae Bell; his son, William Bell and his grandson, Frederick Garret, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory his four devoted sons, Robert “Bobby” Bell and James “Jimmy” Bell, both of Nashville, Tennessee, Charles Bell, of Madison, Wisconsin, and Arthur Bell of Chicago, Illinois, two devoted daughters, Lucy Mai Bell and Aline Bell-Garrett, of San Antonio, TX; eight grandchildren, James Bell, of Memphis, TN, Pamela Jones, of Mississippi, Tinisha Miller, of Joliet, Illinois, Antwan Rolack, of Arkansas, Michelle Smith, of San Antonio, Texas, Teanna Forrest, of Carbondale, Illinois, Tiffiney Garrett, of Savannah, Georgia and Charles Wilson, of Chicago, Illinois; two sisters, Nancy Patterson and Maggie Malone; eight great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Walters and Edna Sanders; brothers-in-law, James Sanders and Irving Sanders and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many other cherished friends.
