Shawnta Monique Crook was a person who loved life to the fullest and actually lived life to the fullest. She was born 50 years ago in Nashville, Tennessee to Gwendolyn Louise Crook, but the majority of her life was spent working at the Peachtree Center in Smyrna, Tennessee and living in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. For the past 17 years, she worked at Peachtree Center and most recently, was their Director of Medical Records. She enjoyed her professional career at Peachtree Center and she also enjoyed her personal life in Murfreesboro.
"LaLa" was a social being who loved to be around people and befriended most everyone around her. Her talkative manner, her colorful way of dressing and her way of just "being herself" will be sorely missed by her family, friends and co-workers.
She was extremely particular about the way she dressed and paid strict attention to her fingernails, her hair, her color-coordinated outfits, hats and shoes. Her classy way of dressing was not complete unless she had a ring on every finger and her special diamond earrings in her ears. She prided herself on being an imitation of Patti Labelle, who was her favorite singer.
"LaLa" loved to travel and she enjoyed cooking, as well as eating. She and her companion, "Penny" traveled to Canada, New York, Philadephia and Cleveland. Those trips always included at least a few hours - spent shopping for items to complement her expansive wardrobe. Although she especially enjoyed eating chess pie at Thanksgiving, she loved to eat just about everything. Her cooking specialities included ribs and roast beef.
Her memory will be cherished by her devoted companion, Carolyn "Penny" Odom; daughter, Earica Odom; sons, Darrell Odom, Derenta Odom; grandson, Dovar Odom; aunts, Rowena (Hershell) Williams, of Los Angeles, CA, Soline (Nathan) Bates, Dorothy (Rev. Clifton) Sawyers, Brenda (James) Cathey, Gloria R. Glenn, Geraldine Crook, Lizzie McGowan, Geneva Crook; mother-in-law, Effie Verge; brother-in-law, Rev. Willie Puckett; special friends and staff at Peachtree Center; numerous cousins and extended "play" family and many other relatives and friends.
The following friends will serve as flower ladies and pallbearers: Lisa Tiggs, Doris Tiggs, Cille McAdoo, Sonya White, Lorenzo "Booga" North, Doris Tatum, Vocka Gaines, Yomi Clark, Christine, Mary White, Linda Peebles, Judy Johns, Beverly, Aaron, Jeffery Blackman, Franki, Michael Dunn, Kenny Lillard, Kenneth Evans, Michael, Lester "Bay Bro" Martin, John Wade, George Wade, Trent Lawrence and Raymond Mitchell.
