Glenna Lea Kennedy
Services for Mrs. Glenna Lea Kennedy, 73, Smyrna, who died Wednesday, July 15, at NHC Healthcare of Murfreesboro, are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna, with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Carl Scarlett will officiate.
A native of St. Louis, Mo., her parents were the late Glenn Cook and Eva Grant Cook.
She is survived by her husband, Frank Kennedy; two sons, Gary Allen Kennedy, Rene Lebesma, both of St. Louis; two daughters, Schere Owens of Millington, Carol Ann Wells of Smyrna; six brothers, Leaman Cook, James Cook, both of St. Louis, Glenn Cook of California, Robert Cook of Springfield, Mo., Mike Cook of Alabama, Tom Cook of Independence, Mo.; a sister, Jaquetta Adams of St. Charles, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held after 10 a.m. Friday at Woodfin Chapel.

His parents were the late Chester Vance and Kate Eva Davenport Vance.
He is survived by his wife, Robbie W. Vance of Woodbury; two sons, Randy H. Vance, Michael C. Vance, both of Woodbury; a daughter, Sandy Bessire of Nashville; a sister, Rachel Burger of Woodbury; and five grandchildren.
A member of the Baptist church, he was a retired carpenter.

Graveside services for Roy Carmick McClaran, 88, Glen Oak Nursing Home, Shelbyville, who died of a stroke Thursday, July 16, at Bedford County General Hospital, were held 10 a.m. today in Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Perry Muse officiating.
His parents were the late Edward Watson McClaran and Sarah Hudson McClaran.
Survivors include a brother, Woodrow McClaran of Murfreesboro; a niece; and two nephews.
A member of the Baptist church, he was a retired farmer.

His father was the late Johnnie E. Goad, and he was preceded in death by a son, Lonnie Goad.
He is survived by his mother, Beatrice Manus Goad of Murfreesboro; his wife, Louida Brewer Goad of Smyrna; four sons, Ricky L. Goad of Smyrna, Steve D. Goad of Murfreesboro, Timmy R. Goad, Roger D. Goad, both of Murfreesboro; two daughters, Donna S. Finch of Murfreesboro, Reba S. Goad of Smyrna; four sisters, Kathleen Reed, Louise Brewer, Johnni Mai Brewer, Shirley Ann Tosh, all of Murfreesboro; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A member of Praise The Lord Baptist Church and a native of Wilson County, he lived most of his life in Rutherford County. He was an employee of the feed mill at Farmer's Co-op in La Vergne.
Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m. today and Wednesday at Jennings & Ayers Funeral Home.

Her parents were the late John Eugene Black and Nina Black Gordon, and her husband was the late Thomas "Jack" Elbert Sumner.
She is survived by five sons, John Sumner of Jacksonville, Fla., Paul Sumner of Nashville, Ray Sumner of Tampa, Fla., Terry Sumner of Manchester, Jerry Sumner of Pennsylvania; three daughters, Wylene McMahan of Manchester, Geraldine McCafferty of Tampa, Fla., Patricia Vaden of Murfreesboro; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A member of the Third Baptist Church and a native of Scott, Ga., she had lived here the past five years. She was a homemaker.

His parents were the late Eugene Averitt and Nannie Victory Averitt.

He was a lumber worker.

She is survived by a daughter, Donna Officer of La Vergne; a son, Charles Thomas Webster of California City, Calif.; a brother, Reece Green of Sparta; two sisters, Clara Crowell of Rossville, Ga., Clata Carroll of Flintstone, Ga.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was a salesperson.

A native of Detroit, Mich., his parents were the late Bernard Van Vliet and Mary Houtka Van Vliet.
He is survived by three daughters, Patricia Phillips, Theresa Van Vliet, both of Murfreesboro, Carol Van Vliet Rediker of Lascassas; a son, Michael Van Vliet of Murfreesboro; and nine grandchildren.
A member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, he was a retired finance clerk with the U.S. Air Force with 23 year service.

James Edward Phillips
Services for James Edward "Jim" Phillips, 75, of Lebanon, who died Saturday of heart failure were held at 11 a.m. today at Nave Funeral Home in Lebanon, followed by burial in Wilson County Memorial Garden, with the Rev. Glenn Denton officiating and the Rev. Jim Hutchison and the Rev. Jimmy Gray assisting.
A native and lifelong resident of Wilson County, he was the son of the late J.E. Phillips and Laura Malone Phillips.
He is survived by his wife, Joy E. Phillips; three sons, Charles E. Phillips of Cookeville, Jimmy E. Phillips of Lebanon, Wade T. Phillips of Murfreesboro; two sisters, Betty Faye Ridge of Hendersonville, and Doris Rogers of Lebanon; one granddaughter, four grandsons, and two great-grandchildren.
He attended Wilson County Schools and served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific Theater. He was retired from Pla-Mor Lanes in Nashville, and a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.
