Elizabeth Porterfield
Services for Elizabeth Porterfield, 77, of Murfreesboro, who died Saturday, Aug. 8, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center after an extended illness, are scheduled for 4 p.m. Monday at Jennings & Ayers Chapel with Marion West officiating. Burial will be in Coleman Cemetery.
A native of Rutherford County, Mrs. Porterfield was the daughter of the late Floyd and Minnie Wilson Williams Reed. She was preceded in death by one sister, Lucille Landrum.
She is survived by her husband, Dallas Watkin Porterfield; a son, Scott Porterfield; a daughter, Maxine Porterfield Mingle; a sister, Edith Lovvorn, all of Murfreesboro; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Mrs. Porterfield was an employee of Central Services, but was a homemaker for most of her life. She was also a member of the Science Hill Church of Christ.
Visitation with the family is scheduled from 2-8 p.m. today at Jennings & Ayers Funeral Home.

William Adams
Services for William Glenn Adams, 78, of Moreland Road in Murfreesboro, who died Saturday, Aug. 8 at his residence, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Jennings & Ayers Chapel with Tom Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
A native of Neosho, Mo., Mr. Adams was the son of the late William Claud Adams and Cenah Fenimore Adams.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth McCord Adams; three daughters, Sue Stevenson of Murfreesboro, Julie Hawks of Ooltewah, Tenn., and Glenda Callaway of Bolivar, Mo.; two brothers, Lloyd Adams of Jacksonville, Ark., and Elmer Adams of Anchorage, Alaska; a sister, Marie Wallace of Joplin, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Adams was a World War II veteran, U.S. Navy. He was a retired manager of Computer Record Systems at Western Union Telegraph Co., and also worked for H&R Block for 10 years. He was a member of Franklin Road Baptist Church.
Visitation with the family is scheduled from 3-5 p.m. today at Jennings & Ayers Funeral Home.

Christopher T. Cox
Graveside services for Christopher Tyler Cox, who died Saturday, Aug. 8, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center, are set for 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Bethel Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Hall officiating.
He is survived by his father, Christopher Lee Cox of Murfreesboro; his mother, Sandra Barrett of Murfreesboro; two half brothers, Jalen Cox, Dylan Brand, both of Michigan; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Randy Shank of Murfreesboro, and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Barrett of Smyrna.
Woodfin Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Ricky Hill Barrett
Services for Ricky Hill Barrett, 31, Cannon County, who died from results of an auto accident Saturday, Aug. 8, were held 10 a.m. today at Smith Funeral Home, Woodbury, with burial in Riverside Cemetery. Clyde Todd officiated.
He is survived by his mother, Barbara Hudson Barrett; his father, Lofton Dee Barrett; his stepmother, Joan Stewart Barrett; three brothers, Kenneth Barrett, Jerry Barrett, both of Woodbury, Steve Barrett of Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, Rena Ladd of Tampa, Sherry Barrett of Nashville; two stepbrothers, Danny Ladd of Rockvale, and Steven Ladd of Tampa.
A member of the Church of Christ, he was a logger and timber cutter.
Visitation was held Monday and until service time today at Smith Funeral Home.

Celeste C. Abernathy
Graveside services for Celeste Craig Abernathy, 69, Murfreesboro, formerly of Nashville, who died at home Monday, Aug. 10, are set for 11 a.m. Thursday in Evergreen Cemetery here with the Rev. Gene Wise and the Rev. Robert Cowperthwaite officiating.
She is survived by her husband, W. Lane Abernathy; mother, Elizabeth Gewin Craig Lancaster of Sewanee; daughter, Elizabeth Reid Abernathy of Birmingham, Ala.; two sons, William L. Abernathy Jr. of Bell Buckle, Charles Hatcher Abernathy of Nashville; sister, Donia Craig Dickerson of Nashville; and four grandsons.
Her father, the late Frances Craig, was an orchestra leader and composer in 1946 of the song "Near You'' which was the first nationwide hit originating from Nashville.
A graduate of Ward-Belmont Preparatory School and Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, Va., she was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America, the Ladies Hermitage Association and when living in Bell Buckle from 1978 to 1986, she served as treasurer of Women of the Church and member of the vestry of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Shelbyville.
She was a pianist and writer whose poems were included in an anthology published by the American Poetry Association. She was a former officer and board member of the Junior League of Nashville.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.

He is survived by his parents, Charles and Annette Stewart of Smyrna; a brother, Ricky Glowacki of England; two sisters, Debbie Draper, and Theresa Fitzcharles, both of Smyrna.
Born in Cambridge, England, and a member of the Smyrna First United Methodist Church, he was an employee of Whirlpool, La Vergne.

A native of Davidson County, her parents were the late William Edward Hite and Fannie Foster Hite. She was the widow of William B. Allen.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty Lester of Murfreesboro; a brother, Paul Hite of Nashville; a sister, Elizabeth Hinson of Nashville; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was a member of Kingwood Heights Church of Christ.

Joe Tate
Services for Joe Tate, 61, Murfreesboro, who died at home Monday, Aug. 10, are set for 8:30 p.m. today at H.L. Johnson Funeral Home, Churchhill, with burial 2 p.m. Thursday in McPhetters Bend Cemetery.
A native of Kingsport, his parents were the late William Tate and Madgie Tate.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Tate; a son, Tony Tate of Lascassas; four brothers, Chick Tate of Churchhill, Kenneth Tate of Houston, Texas, George Tate of Columbus, Ga., Eddison Tate of Dayton, Ohio; three sisters, Nancy Rhea of Surgoinsville, Carolyn Lane of Gary, Alberta Shelton of Auburndale, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
A retired employee of International Paper Co., he was a U.S. Army veteran.
Visitation will be held from 6-8:30 p.m. today at H.L. Johnson Funeral Home.

Betty Jean Walden

Her parents were the late Charles Rhodes and Daisy Roberts Rhodes.
She is survived by her husband, Francis Walden; two sons, Rick Walden of Homer, Ill., Gary Walden of Murfreesboro; a daughter, Sherry Welty of Louisville, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A graduate of Sidney High School, she was a beautician and former employee of Thomas Jefferson Insurance Co., Champaign, Ill.
