Sarah Messick Gowen
Services for Sarah Pearl Messick Gowen, 59, Higdon Drive, who died Monday, Nov. 16, at University Medical Center, Lebanon, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Jennings & Ayers chapel with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Randy Sledge will officiate.
She was the daughter of Willie Bogle Messick of Murfreesboro and the late Carmack Messick.
She is survived by her husband, Travis Doyle Gowen; a son, Darrell Lynn Gowen of Tampa, Fla.; a daughter, Renee Gowen Chester of Lawrenceville, Ga.; her mother; a brother, Ray Messick of Florida; and three sisters, Nell Taylor and Bevel Hughes, both of Murfreesboro, and Earline Tucker of the Almaville community.
A native of Rutherford County, she had moved back to Murfreesboro three months ago after living in Florida for 37 years. She was a former employee of the Brevard County School Board and had worked with handicapped children.
She was a member of the Baptist church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Brain Tumor Association.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Jennings & Ayers.

William Lee Black Sr.
Services for William Lee Black Sr., 76, who died Monday, Nov. 16, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, East Castle Street, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. The Rev. Richard Gordon will officiate.
He was the son of the late Mary and Tom Black.
He is survived by his wife, Bessie Pillow Black; eight daughters, Barbara Grissom, Elma B. McKnight, Beryl Y. Harris, Pamela D. Lyons, Zona B. Frazier, Berdette W. Roper, Helen B. McKnight, Bridgette L. Black; two sons, Byron M. Motley, William Lee Black Jr.; 23 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was a driver for Kennedy Brothers Cab Company for 45 years before retiring in March to go into business for himself. He was a 1941 graduate of Holloway High School.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at H. Preston Scales & Sons Funeral Home. The body will lie in state from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Kenneth W. Estep
Services for Kenneth Wayne Estep, 67, La Vergne, who died Monday, Nov. 16, at his home, will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Woodlawn Funeral Home's Chapel of Roses, with burial in Woodlawn Cross Mausoleum.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Estep; two daughters, Sharon Taylor, Tonya Anderson; three stepdaughters, Sharon Laviola, Karon Holland, Angie Arcement; a sister, Frances Carpenter; eight grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and two great-stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kim Mitchner.
He was retired from Textron Aerostructures and was a veteran of the Korean War.
Visitation is after 10 a.m. today at Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Clara Holden Wade
Graveside services for Clara Holden Wade, 96, who died Tuesday, Nov. 17, at NHC HealthCare, will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Evergreen Cemetery. The Rev. John B. Sessoms will officiate.
She was the daughter of the late William H. and Ida Wright Williams and the widow of John M. Holden, who died in 1930, and Sam Black Wade, who died in 1953.
She is survived by a son, Jack Holden of Murfreesboro; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church.
She was associated with Murfreesboro Bank & Trust for 44 years and retired in 1975.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.

Lonna S. Candler
Services for Lonna Strickland Candler, 86, who died Monday, Nov. 16, at Boulevard Terrace Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, were at 11 a.m. today at Castellaw Funeral Home, Smyrna Ga., with burial in Georgia Memorial Park. The Rev. Jerry McCurdy officiated.
A native of Jesup, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Lonnie Otis Strickland and Beulah Thornton Strickland and was the widow of Warren Asa Candler, who died in 1980. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Nancy Beasley.
She is survived by a daughter, Diannah Candler Carrington of Murfreesboro; two brothers, J. Hugh Strickland, Dean Strickland, both of Jesup, Ga.; two sisters, Mary S. Parsons of East Point, Ga., Bobbye S. Jones of Jesup, Ga.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the Methodist Church and was a director for the Marietta Little Theater for many years.
Jennings & Ayers was in charge of local arrangements.

Maggie Rufin
Services for Marguerite "Maggie" Rufin, 9, Smyrna, who died Sunday, Nov. 15, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident, will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna, with burial in Mapleview Cemetery. The Rev. Wiatt Funk will officiate.
She is survived by her mother, Kay Smith of Smyrna; her father, Robert Rufin of Murfreesboro; stepfather, Delbert Smith of Smyrna; stepmother, Laura Rufin of Murfreesboro; three sisters, Toni Phillips, Allison Rufin, Indy Smith; three brothers, Cody Smith, Patrick Smith, Jacob Rufin; and grandparents, Joseph and Barbara Rufin of New Orleans, La., Bill and Barbara Heydman of Crossville, and Jewell Taber of Crossville.
She was a fourth-grade honor roll student at David Youree Elementary School. She played for Team Mexico in the North Rutherford Soccer League.

Margaret J. Wright
Graveside services for Margaret Beesley Johnson Wright, 80, Shawnee Drive, who died Thursday, Nov. 19, at her home, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Evergreen Cemetery. The Rev. David Garth will officiate. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church.
She was the daughter of Dr. Benjamin Johnson and Sarah Beesley Johnson and was the widow of Neil Wright Jr., who died in 1989.
She is survived by two sons, Neil Wright III of Richmond, Ky., David Quintin Wright of Murfreesboro; a daughter, Ann Moss Betts of Murfreesboro; a brother, William N. Johnson of Longwood, Fla.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was associate professor of music at MTSU for 31 years before her retirement and was founder and director of the Sacred Harp Singers at the university.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Memorials may be made to the music ministry of First Presbyterian Church or the MTSU Foundation designated for the music department in the name of Neil and Margaret Wright.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. today at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.
