Ernestine LaLance
Services for Ernestine B. LaLance, 85, who died Thursday, Jan. 7, at Boulevard Terrace Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Beard Mortuary in Huntington, W. Va., with burial in Woodmere Cemetery in Huntington, W. Va. The Rev. William DePrater will officiate.
A native of Williamson, W. Va., she was the daughter of the late Ernest A. and Kathryn Smith Bartels and the widow of the late Robert Charles LaLance Sr.
She is survived by sons, Robert LaLance Jr., and Richard E. LaLance, both of Murfreesboro; a daughter, Barbara Anne Kelly of Loudonville, N.Y.; a sister, Barbara Bartels Leckie of Huntington, W. Va.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Huntington, W. Va. She was a 1930 graduate of Huntington High School and received a normal certificate from Marshall College in 1932. She was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at Beard Mortuary in Huntington, W. Va.
Woodfin Memorial Chapel is in charge of local arrangements.

Letha Gowan Elkins
Services for Letha Gowan Elkins, 92, of Woodbury, who died Wednesday, Jan. 6, at Raintree Manor in McMinnville, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens The Rev. Joe Elliot will officiate.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph C. and Mary Harvey Gowan.
She is survived by her husband, James Gid Elkins; a son, Hewitt Wayne Elkins of Nashville; daughters, Mattie Louise Turner of Woodbury, Wilma Jean Priske of Winter Park, Fla., Dorothy Jane George of Greenville, S.C., Mary Jeanette Warnack of La Vergne; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Friday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.

Virgil L. Iles
Services for Virgil L. Iles, 84, of Haynes Drive, who died Wednesday, Jan. 6, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center, will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. The Rev. John Casey will officiate.
He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Iles.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice Patton Iles; a son, Roger Iles of Memphis; a stepson, Ted W. Patton of Madison; a stepdaughter, Bonnie Ward of Murfreesboro; one grandchild; and five stepgrandchildren.
A native of Lebanon, Ohio, he was a World War II veteran and retired mechanical engineer with Ford Motor Company. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a graduate of Ohio State University.
Memorials may be sent to the MTSU Foundation or the charity of your choice.
Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Lee Pate
Services for Lee Pate, 88, of Murfreesboro, who died Friday, Jan. 3, at the AdamsPlace Health Center, will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel in Murfreesboro, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. The Rev. David Garth will officiate.
Pate was a native of Atlanta and the son of the late Lee S. and Laura Gordy Pate, Sr. He is survived by one son, Sam Pate of Taylors, S.C.; and one grandson, Michael G. Pate of Greenville, S.C. Pate was preceded in death by a son, John M. Pate; and a brother, Don Pate. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Pate was a football and basketball coach at Murfreesboro Central High School and Oakland High School before his retirement in 1977. Memorials may be made to the Lee Pate Scholarship Fund at the MTSU Foundation in memory of Pate.
Visitation will be one hour before funeral services at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.

Christine F. Notgrass
Services for Christine Douglas Fowler Notgrass, 80, of Columbia, who died Thursday, Jan. 7, at Maury Regional Hospital, will be at 1 p.m. today at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home in Columbia with burial in Polk Memorial Gardens. John Vaughan will officiate.
She was the daughter of the late George H. Douglas and Nora Goad Douglas.
She is survived by her husband, Wesley Notgrass; sons, Al Fowler of Germantown, Lee Fowler of Murfreesboro, Doug Fowler of Collierville; stepsons, Alan Notgrass of Chattanooga, Ray Notgrass of Cookeville; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A native of Rutherford County, she was a retired teacher from Riverside Elementary School. She was a member of Graymere Church of Christ and a 1940 graduate of David Lipscomb and 1974 BS graduate of Trevecca.
Memorials may be sent to Columbia Academy.
Visitation was Friday at the funeral home.

Jean Hilliard King
Services for Jean Hilliard King, 57, of Eagleville, who died Thursday, Jan. 7, at home following a brief illness, will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Lawrence Funeral Home chapel, Columbia, with burial in Simpson Cemetery in Rover. The Rev. Willis Pope will officiate.
She was the daughter of the late Jessie James and Nannie Harr Hilliard.
She is survived by her husband, Hugh H. King; daughters, Tanya Boyce and Lori Hill, both of Unionville, Cathy Coleman-Storey of Nashville; a stepdaughter, Cassandra Howard of Antioch; a stepson, Hugh Antony King of Raleigh, N.C.; a brother, Lewis Hilliard of Sylvester, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.
A native of Washington County, she was a homemaker and member of St. Edward's Catholic Church.
Visitation was Friday at the funeral home.

Mable Ray
Services for Mrs. Mable Halcomb Ray, 90, of Murfreesboro, who died Saturday, Jan. 9, at Murfreesboro Health Care Center, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Tullahoma Funeral Home followed by burial in the Oakwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Mark Gregory officiating.
Mrs. Ray was the daughter of the late Thomas and Lillie Ashabraner Halcomb. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Ray.
She is survived by two nieces, Gayla Halcomb Ritch of Huntsville, Ala., and Martha Halcomb Jolley of Chattanooga; and three nephews, Marcus A. Halcomb of Rock Island, Daniel G. Halcomb of Huntsville, Ala., and William McCollum Halcomb of Birmingham, Ala.
Mrs. Ray worked for the First National Bank of Tullahoma for 41 years from which she retired as a vice president in 1965. She was active with the Tullahoma Fine Arts Center and the League of Women Voters, and a member of the First Baptist Church in Murfreesboro.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Tullahoma Fine Arts Center or the Murfreesboro First Baptist Church Library.
Visitation with the family will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Tullahoma Funeral Home.

Willis Pharris Sr.
Services for Willis Lee Pharris Sr., 63, of Gainesboro, who died Friday, Jan. 8, at Jackson County Hospital in Gainesboro, are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday at Anderson Funeral Home in Gainesboro with burial in Stafford Cemetery in Columbus Hill community, with James Paul Anderson officiating.
He was the son of Bell Pharris of Gainesboro and the late Sam Pharris.
He is survived by his mother; his wife, Barbara Fritz Pharris; four sons, Marty Pharris of Murfreesboro, David Beard, Willis Pharris Jr. and Sam Pharris, all of Gainesboro; a daughter, Melanyee Scott of Murfreesboro; six brothers, Clarence, Fred, Charles, Joe and Doyle Pharris, all of Smyrna, and Bill Pharris of Nashville; and three sisters, June West of Cookeville, and Linda Williams and Betty Carver, both of Gainesboro.
A retired heavy equipment mechanic, Mr. Pharris was a resident of the Stone community of Jackson County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean conflict.
Visitation with the family is set from noon to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. Monday.

Dorothy Brown
Graveside services for Mrs. Dorothy Lee Brown, 85, of 515 Walnut St., who died Thursday, Jan. 7, of cancer, are scheduled for Monday at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park in Tampa, Fla.
A native of Paint Lick, Ky., she was preceded in death by her husband, the late Elmer Kirby Brown.
She is survived by two sons, Melvyn M. Brown of Murfreesboro, and Jack G. Brown of West Virginia; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Brown spent most of her life in Tampa, where she was a member and Sunday School teacher at Trinity United Methodist Church. She attended Berea College in Kentucky, and was retired from the Woolworth Co. after 25 years as a bookkeeper.
Marsicano Funeral Home in Tampa is in charge of arrangements.
