Curtis Owens
Services for Curtis Owens, 83, of 118 Juliet Ave., who died Saturday, Jan. 9, at the NHC Health Care Center, are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday at Jennings & Ayers Funeral Home followed by burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Woodrow Medlock officiating.
He was the son of the late William and Lottie Harris Owens.
He is survived by his wife, Nola Simpson Owens; two stepsons, Van Simpson of Franklin and James Howard Simpson of Nashville; four stepdaughters, Shelia Webb of Murfreesboro, Linda Sue Grisham of Mt. Juliet, Sandy Foster of Lascassas and Pat Cox of Christiana; two sisters, Ruby Church of War, W. Va., and Cora Warren of Florida; 16 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Mr. Owens was a native of North Carolina. He moved to West Virginia and worked in coal mines. He later moved to Florida and served as a detective.
Visitation with the family will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Jennings & Ayers Funeral Home.

Charlotte Vida
Services for Mrs. Charlotte Vida, 64, of Smyrna, who died Friday, Jan. 8, at her home, are scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday at Woodfin Chapel in Smyrna, with Gene Lovelace officiating.
Mrs. Vida was a native of Longacre, W. Va., and was the daughter of the late John and Grace Backus Jackson.
She is survived by her husband, Fred Vida; a son, David Warden of Chester, Va.; two brothers, B.C. Jackson of Smithers, W. Va., and Jerry Jackson of Friendly, W. Va.; two sisters, Joann Vest of Lakeville, W. Va., and Barbara Jarrett of Kimberly, W. Va.; and one grandchild.
Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna, is in charge of arrangements.

John Pharis
Services for John Henry Pharis, 84, of Dunaway Chapel Road in Lascassas, who died Friday, Jan. 8, at his home are scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel followed by burial in Evergreen Cemetery, with Paul Norwood officiating.
He was a native of Arkansas, and the son of the late Deckerd and Martha Jane Carter Pharis.
He is survived by his wife, Virgie Pharis; four daughters, Anna Fong of Mexico, Barbara Pharis of Smyrna, Carol Simpson of Lascassas, and Monda Pacheco of California; three sons, J.C. Pharis, Gary Pharis and Darrell Pharis, all of California; two brothers, Orville Pharis and D.L. Pharis; and a sister, Lois Ballard, all of Arkansas; 17 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Pharis was a retired farmer and member of the Church of Christ.
Visitation with the family will be held after 1 p.m. Monday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.

John Poteete
Services for John Raymond "Billy" Poteete, 68, of Murfreesboro, who died Friday, Jan. 8, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center, are scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Franklin Memorial Chapel in Franklin, followed by burial in Poteete Cemetery, with Paul Gray Cooper officiating.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Jean Poteete; two daughters, Mary Ann Poteete and Chris Poteete Dunkerson, both of Murfreesboro; and one grandson.
Mr. Poteete was a retired construction worker.
Visitation with the family will be from 6-9 p.m,. Monday at Franklin Memorial Chapel.

Jackson Marable
Services for Jackson Marable, 73, of Murfreesboro, who died Friday, Jan. 8, at Community Care of Rutherford County, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at H. Preston Scales & Sons Funeral Home followed by interment in the Marable Family Cemetery in the Little Hope community, with the Rev. Tolbert Randolph officiating.
Mr. Marable was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances Alexander Marable.
He is survived by a son, Lewis Jackson Marable, and a daughter, Clara D. Murray, both of Murfreesboro; nine stepchildren, and 19 grandchildren.
Mr. Marable was a former cook and food deliverer at MTSU.
Visitation with the family will be from 10-11 a.m. Monday at Scales & Sons Funeral Home.

Frances Hayes Hobbs
Services for Frances Hayes Hobbs, 92, of Murfreesboro, who died Saturday, Jan. 9, at NHC HealthCare of Murfreesboro, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. The Rev. Jerry Mayo will officiate.
She was the daughter of the late Robert and Jeanette Rucker Hayes and the widow of John Hobbs.
She is survived by sisters, Muriel Stone and Lillie Mae Hoover, both of Murfreesboro.
A native of Rutherford County, she was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James E. McKnight

He is survived by a son, James Henry McKnight of Murfreesboro; a daughter, Penny Lyons of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; sisters, Alma Wade, Lorraine Piercy, Evelyn Watkins, and Ottie V. Woods, all of Murfreesboro.
He was retired from State Farm Insurance Co.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday at the church.

Rufus Howard Jr.
Services for Rufus Howard Jr., 75, of Shelbyville, who died Saturday, Jan. 9, at Bedford County Medical Center, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Bright's Temple Church of God in Christ with burial in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Isaac Davis will officiate.
He is survived by his wife, Annie Howard; a son, Oscar Cannon of Unionville; daughters, Gloria Howard of Nashville, Roxie Howard of Shelbyville; a brother, Lawson Howard; sisters, Emma Thompson, Hattie Bowen, Annie Anderson, Lovie Cannon, Mary Howard, Joyce Neely, Jean Gregory; and two grandchildren.
He served in the U.S. Armed Forces and was a truck driver for the city of Shelbyville. He was a Shriner and a Mason.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Bright's Temple Church of God in Christ

Joe Dean Bell
Services for Joe Dean Bell, 23, of Rockvale, who died Monday, Jan. 11, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center following a workplace accident, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Darryl Lewis will officiate.
He was the son of Mary Bond and Mike Patterson of Rockvale and Osborne Frank Bell Jr. of Florida.
He is survived by brothers, Dillon Patterson of Brentwood, Bart Jones and Greg Jones, both of Murfreesboro; sisters, Mary Katherine Hall of Lake Tahoe, Nev., Bonnie Jones of Rockvale, Kaylen Patterson of Brentwood; grandparents Rachel Bond, Mrs. M.H. Jones, and Gerald Vizena, all of Murfreesboro.
A native of Knox County, he was a 1994 graduate of Eagleville High School. He was attending MTSU and was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He was a member of Crescent Church of Christ and was in the Army National Guard.
Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
