James D. ‘J.D.’ Woodson, 85, of Rockvale died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center.
He was a native of Rutherford County and the son of the late Jimmy D. and Louise Farris Woodson.
He is survived by his wife, Miriam Arnette Woodson; daughter Mrs. Barbara (James Donald) Clark, of Rockvale; son Jimmy (Brenda) Woodson, of Rockvale; sisters Mrs. Leila (Billy) Lynch and Mrs. Louise (James Porter) McKnight, both of Murfreesboro, and Mrs. Emma Gloria Ralston, of Rockvale; brother Leslie F. (Katherine) Woodson, of Eagleville; grandchildren Penny (Shane) Ray, Misty Clark, Kevin (Mary) Woodson and Eric (Rusha) Woodson; great-grandchildren Brook Woodson, Brad Woodson and Emily Woodson.
Mr. Woodson was a member of the Rockvale Church of Christ and retired from the Rutherford County Highway Department, retiring in 1975.
Lincoln Hughes, 26, of Rockvale, died Wednesday, Aug. 27 at home.
A native of Fortuna, Calif., he was the son of Jerald Hughes, of Ukiah, Calif., and Barbara Dustin, of Reno, Nev.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by sisters Victoria Geiger, of Reno, Nev., and Jolene Lomeli, of Gridley, Calif.; brother Jerry Hughes, of Woodland, Calif.
Mr. Hughes served in the U.S. Army and worked as a plumber. Mr. Hughes enjoyed riding bulls.
Jonathon Dale Griggs, 14, of La Vergne, who died Friday, Aug. 1, will be 3 p.m. Monday at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna, with burial at Mapleview Cemetery.
He was the son of Jackie Griggs, of Smyrna, and Michelle Jones Stanley, of La Vergne.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by stepfather, David Stanley, of La Vergne; brothers William Griggs, of La Vergne, and Alex Griggs, of Rockvale; sister Brandy Stanley, of La Vergne; grandparents Paul and Elva Griggs, and Barbara Smith, all of Smyrna, Connie Sims, of Murfreesboro, and William Jones, of Florida; great-grandparents Albert and Frances McMahon, of La Vergne.
Eddie Taylor Fulghum, 53, of Eagleville, died Tuesday, Aug. 5 at his home.
He was a native of Rutherford County and the son of Mary Taylor Fulghum and the late Donald R. Fulghum.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by wife Rosanell Fulghum, of Eagleville; son Jason Fulghum and his wife, Lori, of Eagleville; daughter Angela Higgins and her husband, Jason, of Murfreesboro; sister Linda Fulghum, of Murfreesboro; and two grandchildren, Briley and Devon Fulghum.
Mr. Fulghum was owner of E&J Masonry and Backhoe Service.
James Samuel Read, age 86, of Unionville, Tenn., died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, in Franklin.
Elder Read was a native of Rutherford County and the son of the late Basil Dewitt and Fannie Ruth Heath Read. He was retired from the State of Tennessee Department of Transportation and a retired Primitive Baptist Minister.
Elder Read was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. May Read, who died in 1989.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Josephine Gatlin Read, Unionville, Tenn.; daughters, Laura Ruth Smith, of Unionville, Tenn., and Sandra R. Gillespie, of Memphis, Tenn.; son, James (Dee) Read, of Cortlanda, Ill.; brother, Harold Wayne Read, of Montgomery, Ala.; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren.
Lorene Puckett Brown, 83, of Rockvale died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center.
A native and lifelong resident of Rutherford County, Mrs. Brown was the daughter of the late Willie and Maggie Holden Puckett.
She attended Middle Tennessee State University and retired from Palmer Produce as a bookkeeper. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, E. J. Puckett and Herman Puckett.
Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband, James A. Brown of Rockvale.
Thelma Sims Comer, 92, of Murfreesboro died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at MTMC.
A native of Christiana, Mrs. Comer was the daughter of the late Jordan D. and Pauline Powell Sims. She was a retired teacher with the Rutherford County School System and also worked in special education in Davidson County. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
She was married to the late Robert Reed Comer and also was preceded in death by daughter Caroline Comer Wells and sister Janice Jennings.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Polly Comer and James Seth Tidwell of Rockvale; grandchildren, Connie Gladden, Jimmy Tidwell, James and Amy Wells, Jamie and Phillip Robertson and Donna and Joe Morris; great-grandchildren Connor and Caroline Gladden, Molly and Emily Wells, McKenzie and Katie Robertson and Zachary and Leslie Morris; brother-in-law Paul S. Jennings of Christiana; nephew Paul E. and his wife Suzanne Jennings of Christiana.
Gladys Carlton Luttrell, 86, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, at her home in Nashville.
A native of Eagleville, she was the daughter of the late Walker and Susie Morgan Carlton.
She is survived by husband Woodrow Luttrell; son and daughter-in-law Joe Luttrell and Wanda Webb, of Brentwood; daughters and sons-in-law Lisa and Gayle Crowe, of Lafayette, Ind., and Patsy Luttrell, of Madison, Wis.; two grandchildren: Darren M. Crowe and Lauren Crowe Cunningham; one great-granddaughter: Claire Morgan Cunningham.
Mrs. Luttrell was a member of Bellevue Church of Christ and was a 1935 graduate of Eagleville High School. She earned her B.S. degree from MTSU in 1939. She was a 4-H Club agent in Giles County and a 20-year teacher in Illinois. From 1947 until 1949 her husband Woodrow Luttrell served as 4-H Club agent for the boys and later was Rutherford County Agricultural agent and assistant to the president of the Tennessee Farm Bureau in Columbia and a staff member of the American Farm Bureau in Chicago.
Johnnie B. Potter, 91, of Rockvale died Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, in Smyrna after an extended illness. Mrs. Potter was a native of Rutherford County and was a daughter of the late Hessie Thomas and Lera Redmond Bennett. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Vernon Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Edward Potter.
Survivors include sister Polly Crowell of Rockvale, three nieces and one nephew.
Aline Bragg Willard, 80, of Murfreesboro, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004.
A native of Rutherford County, Mrs. Willard was the daughter of the late Adam Frank and Harriet Parker Bragg. She was a devoted homemaker and a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wiseman Willard, sons James Willard and Frank Willard and granddaughter Crystal Joy Willard.
Survivors include daughters Emogene Bellenfant of Murfreesboro, Pat Barkve of Tullahoma and Margie Robinson of Rockvale; sons Aubrey Willard of Murfreesboro, Sammie Willard of Smyrna and Wendell Willard of Rockvale; sister Pauline Stem; brother-in-law Truman Robinson; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
