Robert M. Ramsbottom, age 74, of Graham St. in Gardner, Massachusetts, died Wednesday, in Primacy Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Memphis, Tennessee.
Born in Fall River, a son of Barbara (Rooney) Ramsbottom of Portsmouth, Rhode Island and the late John Dana Ramsbottom, he resided in Fall River during his youth, South Carolina, Memphis, Tennessee and Somerset, Massachusetts, moving to Gardner, Massachusetts 20 years ago.
Mr. Ramsbottom had been a Sales Executive with RESCO Printing in Fall River for 10 years and for the former Ramsbottom Cotton Company for 20 years. A certified counselor, he was recently associated with Pathway House in Gardner, Massachusetts.
He served in the United States Coast Guard from 1945-1947, was a graduate of Tabor Academy in 1945 and attended the First Baptist Church in Fall River.
Surviving in addition to his mother are 2 sons, Robert M. Ramsbottom, Jr. of Norris, TN., and David D. Ramsbottom of Germantown, TN., 5 daughters, Donna S. Lucchesi of Memphis, TN., Jeanne P. Ramsbottom of PawPaw, WV, Anne Hartnett of Tiverton, RI, Judy S. Bracken of Overland Park, KS, and Joan E. Moore of Germantown, TN.; 2 brothers, Donald M. Ramsbottom, Vice Chancellor of University Relations at UMass, Dartmouth, of Portsmouth, RI, and William D. Ramsbottom of Macon, GA; 2 sisters, Elaine Peebles of Greenville, SC., and Joan Andrews of North Haven, CT; 16 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was also father of the late Mary Elizabeth "Betsey" Perrault and brother of the late John Dana Ramsbottom, Jr.
His funeral will be held Tuesday, January 29, 2002, at 11:00AM, in the CHERRY PLACE HOME OF WARING-SULLIVAN, ASHTON, COUGHLIN, DRISCOLL 178 Winter St., Fall River.
Relatives and friends invited. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery in Fall River.

Captain Emmett Lee Van Landingham, Jr., MSC, USN (Ret.), former Chief of the Navy Medical Service Corps, died January 16, 2002 at The Fairfax Retirement Community, Ft. Belvoir, VA. He was born in McCool, MS in 1915 and began his long, distinguished Naval career with his enlistment in 1934 after two years at Hinds Junior College. He advanced through the enlisted ranks and was commissioned as an Ensign in the Hospital Corps in 1944. Following his European service in World War II, he had a variety of assignments in Bethesda, MD, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and at the navy's Bureau of Medicine. Along the way, he completed a Bachelor of Commercial Science degree from Benjamin Franklin University and earned a Masters in Business Administration from Harvard University. His career culminated in his appointment as Chief of the Navy Medical Service Corp, a position he held from 1968 until his retirement in 1973. Captain Van Landingham is survived by his wife, Mary Louise "Bits" McCulloch; daughters Sandra Van-Harris and Linda Wilson; sisters Marie Power and Gervis Flanagan; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 15, 2002 at the Old Post Chapel, Ft. Myers followed by burial at Arlington National cemetery. WILLIAM STIVER FRY of Sun City West Arizona, formerly of Dayton and Englewood, Ohio, died January 17, 2002. He was born Jan. 25, 1918, in Dayton, Ohio, to Jesse Albertis Fry and Dora Stiver Fry. He graduated from Sinclair College and Miami University and received an MBA degree from The University of Dayton. He enlisted in the Army in 1941, and, as a captain, served on five islands in the Pacific under the 5th Air Force. He was promoted to major at the end of World War Two. As a reserve officer, he returned to active duty in the Korean War as an instructor in the Army Command and General Staff College branch at Ft. Mead, MD., retiring from the U.S. Army Reserve in 1962 as a lieutenant colonel. He was a 50-year member of the Ohio Society and American Institute of CPAs. He was the senior partner in William S. Fry & Co., CPAs, in Dayton, with six offices in three states. He served as a director of Associated Regional Accounting Firms in New Orleans, and became chairman of the board when it moved to Atlanta. In 1978, he retired from Fry & Co. to become an associate professor of accounting at The University of Dayton, and served as Assistant Dean of Business from 1981 to 1984. In Sun City West, he was treasurer and later, president, of PORA, a 16, 000-member association that serves as the community's local government. Memberships included the University of Dayton Presidents' Club, Dayton Racquet Club, Engineers' Club of Dayton, Arabic Club, past president of the local chapter of National Shriners, Reserve Officers' Association, and Retired Officers' Association. He was a 50-year member of various Masonic associations, and of Antioch Shrine Temple. An active Rotarian, he had 40 years of perfect attendance. He was a member of Mensa. He and his wife of 60 years, Lea Fletcher Fry, moved in 1987 from Englewood to Sun City West, where she continues to lecture on the history of the United States flag for the Freedom Foundation. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, William Fry and wife, Tami, of Erie, PA. and Richard Fry and fiancee, Lisa Browning, of Saulsbury, Tenn.; two daughters, Peggy Kovacic and husband, Dr. David Kovacic of Urbana, Ill. and Susan Minner and husband Joseph Minner of Carlsbad, Calif., and 10 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Memorial services were Jan. 20 in Sun City West. A memorial service will also be held in Dayton, Ohio.

Mrs. Ida Mae Butler, 90, of Memphis, died Thursday, at Methodist Hospital Central. Funeral Service, Monday, at 11AM, at St. Jude M.B.C., where she was a member, with burial in National cemetery. Mrs. Butler, the widow of Frank Butler, leaves two daughters, Mrs. Frankie B. Shields and Mrs. Sarah B. Nason, both of Memphis, a son-in-law, Rev. Carl E. Shields, and 2 grandchildren, Carla N. Shields and Kelvin M. Nason.

William Frank Lacey, 45, of Hernando, MS., passed away from head trauma, January 22, 2002, at Vanderbilt Hospital, Nashville, TN. Cremation service will be Saturday, January 26th, 11am, at Hernando Funeral Home, Hernando, MS. Mr. Lacey was employed with Abate of Monroe County of Rochester, New York. He leaves wife, Deborah Lacey of Hernando; stepdaughters, Amy Covey, Lisa Covey and Aleta Covey, all of Hernando; mother, Bernadette Lacey; brothers, Tom Lacey of Ft. Lorraine Barnett Willis, age 74, of Dallas, Texas, formerly of Memphis, died Saturday, January 19, 2002, at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. Graveside services were Monday, January 21st, at Restland cemetery in Dallas. Mrs. Willis was a graduate of Humes High School and a Methodist. She leaves a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Jay Park of Dallas, who cared for her; a son, Jim Willis of Byhalia, MS; granddaughter, Mindy Willis of Memphis; brothers and sisters-in-law, Edwin and Ann Barnett of Bartlett, and Marvin and Becky Barnett of Germantown.

Dr. James Stephen Flanary, 54, died Wednesday evening at St. Francis Hospital. Steve was a loving husband and father, as well as a selfless, devoted family member. A partner with the Family Physicians Group, Steve was a compassionate and distinguished physician. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Memphis State University and attended University of Tennessee Medical School. Steve served as a Medical Director of Kirby Pines and Vencor-Hillhaven. He belonged to the American Academy of Family Practitioners and the Memphis and Shelby County Medical Society. Steve was an avid Grizzlies and Tigers basketball fan and enjoyed traveling with his family. Dr. Flanary is survived by his wife, Debra; daughters, Natalie and Jennifer; and his father, Woodrow Flanary. Visitation will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home, Friday, January 25, 2002, 5pm-8pm. Services will be held at Second Presbyterian Church Chapel, where he was a member, Saturday, January 26, 2002, 11am, with burial to follow at Memorial Park cemetery. Frances P. (nee Mangan) McAdoo of Mendham, NJ died Wednesday at St. Clare's Hospital, Denville, NJ. She was 87. Born in Memphis, TN she lived there until moving to Mendham in 2000. Mrs. McAdoo was a successful real estate developer and manager in Memphis, TN. She was an engineering major at the University of Tennessee and was crowned Miss Memphis, TN in 1935.
Survivors include two daughters, Bobara Pendergrast and Margee Cotton, both of Mendham, a sister, Mary Catherine (Nan) Ryska, of Memphis, nine grandchildren, Stacy, Stephen, Scott, Shannon and Mackey Pendergrast and Buddy, Clark, Bradley and Jeffrey Cotton. She is also survived by twelve great grandchildren. Mass of the Resurrection will be offered on Monday (1/28), at 10:30 AM, at the Chapel at St. Joseph Church, Mendham.

ASA HOWARD HOKE - Mr. Hoke, age 56, died Monday night at his home in Memphis, after a protracted cardiac illness. A 1963 graduate of Germantown High School in Germantown, Tennessee, Mr. Hoke served as an intelligence officer in the Army in Vietnam and later returned to Tennessee and earned a law degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He practiced general law in Memphis for 30 years. He was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous. He leaves behind his son, Asa Hunter Hoke of Memphis, his parents, Asa H. Hoke and Emma Laurah McKnight Hoke of Jonesboro, and a brother, Timothy E. Hoke M.D. of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Visitation services will be Thursday, the 24th, from 6 to 8 pm at the Fowler Funeral Home Chapel in Brinkley, Arkansas; memorial services will follow on Friday, the 25th, at 11 am also at the Fowler Chapel.
