ARTHUR J. AHL, 85, of North Little Rock, formerly of Cordova, plastics engineer, died Thursday in North Little Rock. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at North Little Rock Funeral Home with burial in Bayou Meto cemetery. He was a member of Fisherville Baptist Church. Mr. Ahl, the husband of Anna McCoy Ahl, also leaves two daughters, Linda Gonzales of Yuma, Ariz., and Lori Ahl of Pennsylvania; three sons, Jim Ahl of New York, Brian Ahl of Brunswick, Ohio and Reid Ahl of Harrisville, Pa., six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

DOROTHY E. BURNS, 81, of Memphis, homemaker, died Thursday at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis. Harrison's Funeral Home Orange Mound Chapel has charge. She was a member of Riverside Missionary Baptist Church and the Benevolent Club of Walker Homes. Mrs. Burns, the widow of Samuel H. Burns, leaves four daughters, Dorothy Smith, Joyce Williams and Carolyn Dickerson, all of Memphis, and Sharnetta Strick land of Grand Rapids, Mich.; two sons, Samuel H. Burns Jr. and Carl Burns, and a sister, Louise Stewart, all of Memphis; two brothers, Henry Lee Gray and Christopher Gray, both of Woodstock, 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

JAMES E. 'CHOCTAW' CARTER, 71, of Memphis, retired ironworker for Apple Crane & Rigging Co., died Sunday at Memphis Veterans Medical Center. Services were Friday at Munford Funeral Home Millington Chapel with burial in Northridge/Woodhaven cemetery there. He was a Korean War Army veteran and member of Ironworkers Union Local 167. Mr. Carter, the widower of Elizabeth L. Carter, leaves two daughters, Katrina J. Odom of Olive Branch and Laura J. Miller of Little Rock; four sons, James E. Carter Jr. of Warrior, Ala., Davie W. Carter of Memphis, Olen W. Carter of Independence, Miss., and Nicholas W. Carter of Fort Sill, Okla.; three sisters, Pauline Coulter of Dallas, Juanita Uselton of Arlington and Judith Walker of Memphis; three brothers, Olen Carter and Glen Maxey, both of Memphis, and Medford Carter of Shreveport, La., seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

JIM COOK, 62, of Memphis, head coach for the University of Memphis golf program for 32 years, died Friday at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Christ United Methodist Church, where he was a former board member and head of the security committee. Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel has charge. He was named 1991-92 Great Midwest Conference Coach of the Year, was director of the Hillman Robbins Memorial Intercollegiate Tournament, served on the selection committee for the NCAA Golf Championships and the board of directors of the Southern Golf Association, was a past chairman of the legislative committee for the Golf Coaches Association of America and was the Division I representative to the Golf Coaches Association of America Board of Directors.
