NETTIE A. HOOPER, 89, of Memphis died Thursday at American Transitional Rehab & Specialty Care. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Family Funeral Care Stage Road Chapel with burial in Memphis Memory Gardens. She was a member of Frayser Assembly of God Church and a Sunday school teacher for Rubgy Park Assembly of God Church. Mrs. Hooper, the widow of Samuel Hooper, leaves a daughter, Jo Dye of Memphis; a son, Charles Hooper of Lakeview, Ark.; two sisters, Willie Burger of Michigan and Edna Hall of Arkansas; a brother, Amos Davis of California, five grandchildren and four great-grandsons.

WALTER 'LEE' MEREDITH, 78, of Hernando, former manager of DeSoto County Co-op, former teacher, former DeSoto County sheriff and city alderman and former Hernando police chief, died Wednesday at North Oak Regional Medical Center in Senatobia, Miss. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hernando Funeral Home with burial in Hernando Memorial Park. He was a member of Hernando Church of Christ, former member of Rotary and Optimist Clubs, volunteer fireman, Veterans of Foreign Wars commander, Boy Scout leader, graduate of Mississippi Law Enforcement Academy and World War II veteran, and he formed the DeSoto County Rescue Squad and DeSoto Little League Baseball. Mr. Meredith, the husband of Maxine McCullar Meredith, also leaves a daughter, Quay Meredith Bible of Walls; four sons, Walter Lee Meredith Jr. and Robert Alan Meredith, both of Southaven, and Blake Meredith and David Kyle Meredith, both of Hernando; five sisters, Prudie Moss of Batesville, Miss., Olive McCollum of Collierville, Christal Haynes of Olive Branch, Mildred Hayek of Cordova and Evelyn Hall of Memphis; two brothers, Doris Kyle Meredith of Frayser and John Calvin Meredith of Kansas City, Mo., five grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
