Michael Gene Stanley, 54, (10-24-47) left this earth peacefully on Sunday, September 15, 2002 at 9:00 p.m. at his home surrounded by his soulmate Randy, his son Michael Reed and his brother Robert. Mike worked at The Commercial Appeal for 31 years and was the Classified Manager until Feb. 1999: He was Advertising Director of the DeSoto Times Today until July 2002. He attended Kingsbury (K-12) and Memphis State University.
Mike had a life full of fun and love and a heart bigger than all of Alaska; he will be kept forever in the hearts of those who loved him. The millions of visits, cards, calls, prayers, food, jpgts and "good vibes" let him know just how much he was loved and gave him a great sense of peace and comfort. Thank you all! Mike loved fishing, boating scuba diving, underwater photography, duck hunting ("You gotta shoot while the ducks are flying!"), three-wheeling, traveling and pretty much anything else that he could do with his son, his friends and his son's friends. He just loved life. Do you think it's a coincidence that he left earth just as his alter ego Tony Soprano went off the air?
Among the many, many people celebrating his life with tons of memories filled with love and laughter are: Randy Ann Keith, his Fiancee, Friend and Partner; Michael Reed Stanley, his one and only wonderful son; and many "adopted" sons including Kelly Jones, Mark Strausser, & Scott Sweeny; Dian Stanley, his wife of 30 years; 2 sisters - Carolyn Reed of Roseville, Ca. and Leta Ebinger of Manchester, Mo., 1 brother- Robert Reed of Las Vegas, Nev. 10 nieces and nephews and more "Soul Brothers" than James Brown including Pablo, Johnny, Jack, Danny, Tommy, Terry, Walter, Jerry, Mark, Skip, Rick, Joe, Jeff - just to name a few.
And will Louie & Zilla ever get fed again?
Visitation Tuesday Sept. 17, 5-7 p.m. Canale Funeral Home. 2700 Union Ave. Extd.; Funeral Services Wed. Sept. 18, 1:00 p.m. in the Canale Chapel.
