JAMES EARL IRBY, 59, of Memphis, retired truck driver, died Monday at Graceland Nursing Home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Newsom Funeral Home in Charles ton, Miss., with burial in Bethel cemetery in Enid, Miss. Mr. Irby, the husband of Linda Goodnight Irby, also leaves two daughters, Margaret Boyce of Bald Knob, Ark., and Connie Cook of Memphis; two sons, Christopher Irby of Bald Knob and Bob Cook of Memphis; five sisters, Linda Rowe of Sarah, Miss., Barbara Nichols of Oakland, Miss., Kay Bradley of Senatobia, Miss., and Alice Lee and Darlene Little, both of Charleston; a brother, Donald Irby of Jackson, Miss., and four grandchildren.

JAMES ALEX JARRETT, 63, of Hernando, former supervisor for the Mississippi Highway Department, died Tuesday at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Grays Creek cemetery in Hernando. Hernando Funeral Home has charge. He was a member of Grays Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Jarrett, the husband of Kathryn Evon Jarrett, also leaves two sons, James Alex Jarrett Jr. of Southaven and Brian Joseph Jarrett of Farmington, Ark.; a brother, Leroy Deese of Mountain Home, Ark., two grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren. The family requests that memorials be sent to Hernando Church of Christ.

VELMA L. MASON, 82, of 948 Keel, retired from Kay's Bakery, died Saturday at Methodist Healthcare-University Hospital. Services will be at noon Saturday at N. H. Owens & Son Funeral Home with burial in Union cemetery. She leaves a sister, Maggie M. Morris of Memphis.

MARVA GRAY MATTHEWS, 45, of Memphis, employee of Value City Department Store, died Monday at Methodist Healthcare-South. M. J. Edwards & Sons Funeral Home has charge. She was a member of Christ United Missionary Baptist Church. She leaves her parents, Luther and Marion Gray of Memphis; five sisters, Brenda Gill, Debra Moore, Vivian Gray and Gwendolyn Becton, all of Memphis, and Delores G. Mason of Arlington, Texas, and three brothers, Norman Gray and Vernon Gray, both of Memphis, and Louis E. Gray of Arlington.

FRANKIE LEE MAYS, 66, of Memphis, died Monday at the Regional Medical Center at Memphis. Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. today at Snow Funeral Home with additional services at 1 p.m. Thursday at Ridgely (Tenn.) Chapel Baptist Church with burial in Citizen cemetery in Tiptonville, Tenn. Cosmopolitan Funeral Home in Dyersburg, Tenn., has charge. He leaves four sons, Frankie Larry Mays, Willie Ed Mays, Jerome Mays and Donnie Mays, all of Ridgely; a sister, Lucy Mays Price of Dyersburg; a sister-in-law, Burnette Mays, and a niece and nephew, Sharon Martin and Vincent Martin, all of Memphis, all of whom cared for him, 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

KATIE LYNN McGRATH, 84, of Memphis, retired registered nurse from Saint Francis Hospital after 42 years, died Tuesday at American Transitional Rehab & Specialty Care. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial in Memorial Park. She was a member of Sylva Rena Oakland Baptist Church in Oakland, Miss., and a graduate of Bramlett School of Nursing in Oxford, Miss. Mrs. McGrath, the widow of Willard B. McGrath, leaves a daughter, Janet Dodson of Bartlett; a son, Mark Stephen McGrath of Memphis, two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. The family requests that memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society.

Parrish, also leaves two sons, Roy Lee Parrish Jr. and Gary Lee Parrish, both of Memphis; his father and stepmother, Robert Parrish and Oliver L. Parrish; five sisters, Lela Faye Bennett, Margaret Parrish, Letha Jennings and Mattie Cox, all of Memphis, and Ethel Mangrum of Lake Cormorant; three brothers, Tommy Parrish, Paul Parrish and Robert White, all of Memphis, and six grandchildren.

He leaves three sons, Christopher Nathaniel Reeves, Darell Reeves and Charles 'Chucky' Nathaniel Reeves, and a sister, Bertha M. Hughes, all of Memphis; three brothers, Sylvester King of Chicago, and George Whitaker and Alonzo Sparks, both of Memphis, and a companion with whom he lived, Carla Young of Memphis.

He was a member of Raleigh United Methodist Church, a World War II Navy veteran and Master Mason of Lodge 770. Mr. Thornley, the widower of Frances Bass Thornley, leaves a son, Mark Thornley of Fayetteville, Ga.; two stepdaughters, Diana Bayer and Patricia Grooms, both of Nashville; a sister, Dale Orman of Memphis, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
