Susie Buckles, 90, Hillview Nursing Home, formerly of Rt. 7, Elizabethton, died Thursday, March 11, 1999, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Buckles was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Charlie and Ester Arnold Elliott. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. Buckles, in 1970, a son, a half-sister, a step-sister and two half-brothers. Mrs. Buckles attended the Pleasant Beach Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Iva Jean Mathes and Cora Smith, both of Elizabethton; three sons, Billy Joe Buckles and Larry Buckles, both of Elizabethton, and Jack Buckles, Johnson City; a brother, Wiley Elliott, Elizabethton; a half-brother, Joe Elliott, Elizabethton; and a half-sister, Edna Nave. Fifteen grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson also survive. Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

William "Bill" Garrett Jr., 43, 153 Cedar Grove Road, Johnson City, died Thursday, March 11, 1999, at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Garrett was a native of Memphis and the son of William Edward Garrett Sr. and Wanda Christine Cox Garrett, and the adopted son of Charles "Bob" Keith Knabb, Johnson City, whom he made his home with all of his life. Mr. Garrett was of the Baptist faith and was a retired employee of Doozy Truck Center of Johnson City. Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Joyce Garrett, of the home; three daughters, April Dawn and Rachel Garrett, both of Johnson City, and Crystal Perry, Elizabethton; four sons, Issac, Josh, Jimmy and Justin Garrett, all of the home; a step-brother, Rudy Gibson; and five sisters, Wanda, Mary, Grace, Christine and Mildred Garrett, all of Memphis. Mr. Hood was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Herbert Houston and Vicey Morrell Hood. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Freida Peters Hood, and an infant son, Thomas Lee Hood. Mr. Hood was a member of First Baptist Church of Elizabethton and the Four Square Sunday School Class. He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Survivors include a daughter, JoVonna Dodge, of Delaware; two grandchildren, Richie and Katie Dodge, both of Delaware; a special friend, Betty Jo Isaacs, Elizabethton; three sisters, Mary Holt, Milligan College, Jimmie Ruth Bailey, Treasure Island, Fla., and Billie Peters, Johnson City; and a brother, Don Hood, Kingsport. Anita Faye Blevins, 64, 1888 Highway 91, Elizabethton, died unexpectedly Thursday, March 11, 1999, at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital. Mrs. Blevins was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Dewey and Edna Taylor Hardin. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Rondal "Coonie" Hardin, and a niece, Teresa. Mrs. Blevins was a 1952 graduate of Unaka High School. She had operated the Beauty Bonnette Beauty Shop for a number years and was a member of the Stoney Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Terry Blevins, of the home; a sister, Charlcie Jones, Hampton, Va.; two brothers, Ralph Hardin, Elizabethton, and Allen D. Hardin, Cleveland, Ohio; her step-mother, Mrs. Catherine Hardin, Elizabethton; three step-sisters, Dot Oaks, Eula Mae Hodge and Leota Holsclaw, all of Elizabethton; and a step-brother, James "Bud" Potter, Kingsport. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, four sisters, a daughter, three half-sisters and a half-brother. Mr. Campbell was of the Baptist faith and was a retired employee of General Motors. Survivors include his wife, Iris Parsons Campbell, of the home; two daughters, Iris Spencer, Falerton, Ind., and Nancy Simmers, Cleveland, Ohio; two sons, Robert Campbell, Cleveland, Ohio, and Kermit Campbell, Pierpoint, Ohio; and a brother, Perry Campbell, Alburn Hills, Mich. Survivors include his wife, Starr Whisnant Garland, of the home; four sons, Danny Garland, Rev. Mr. Street was a member of Cove Creek Presbyterian Church. He was a former employee of the Carter County Highway Department and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. She was a daughter of the late William and Myrtle Range Shell and was also preceded in death by her husband, Samuel E. Hughes, in 1973. Mrs. Hughes was a homemaker and a lifelong member of the Brick Christian Church, Watauga. Survivors include a son, Robert William Hughes, Johnson City; a daughter, Carolyn Nagle, Wilson, N.C.; and a sister, Lucy D. Slagle, Hartselle, Ala. Ms. Range was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Michael and Sarah Hill Hoss. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Luther A. Range, two sons, Jackie Range, in 1969, and Lewis Younce, in September 1998, and by four brothers and five sisters. Ms. Range was a member of Roan Street Free Will Baptist Church. She was a retired employee of East Tennessee Undergarment Company. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, L.A. and Shirley Range and Jerry and Sandra Range, all of Elizabethton, and a daughter and son-in-law, Jo Ann and Earl Perry, Bluff City. Scott, in 1987, two sons, Carl Scott Jr. and Jerry Lee Scott, and by nine brothers and sisters. Mrs. Scott was a homemaker and a member of the Lick Creek Christian Church. David Ray "Dave" Ward, 47, 137 Dan Bowers Road, Elizabethton, died Monday, March 8, 1999, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Ward was a native of Carter County and the son of Ray Ward, Jonesborough, and the late Bula Elliott Ward. Mr. Ward was a member of Lynn Valley Baptist Church. He was a former employee of Snap-On Tools. Survivors, in addition to his father, include a son, David C. Ward, Elizabethton; a sister, Marlene S. Carr, Elizabethton; and his paternal grandmother, Dora Ward, Elizabethton. One aunt, one uncle and one nephew also survive. Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Calvin L. Barker, 74, of Morristown, died Sunday, March 7, 1999, at Morristown-Hamblen Hospital. Mr. Barker was retired from the United States Air Force and Roadway Express. He was a member of Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church, Gray. Mr. Barker was preceded in death by his parents, Haskell and Julia Mayo Barker. Survivors include his wife, Rita Larkin Barker; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Tina Barker, Honea Path, S.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Danny Buckles, Elizabethton; eight grandchildren; a brother, Robert T. Barker, Piney Flats; and a sister, Ruth Long, Kingsport. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Mrs. Miller was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late John and Mira Miller Clark. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Bernie Bailey; four brothers, Charles Clark, Henry Clark, Edd Clark and Luther Clark; two sisters, Hattie Carver and Lillie Cochran; three sons, Floyd Bailey, Arnold Bailey and J.D. Miller; and two daughters, Gracie Bailey and Gail Miller. Mrs. Miller was a member of the Fairview Free Will Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Charlie Miller; three daughters, Mamie Hyder of Mississippi, June Heaton, Jasper, Mich., and Maxine Vance, Hampton; four sons, Norman Miller and Roy Miller, both of Unicoi, Garnie Miller, Elizabethton, and Dale Miller, Hampton; two step-daughters, Pansy Edmond and Estline Ellison. Mrs. Grace Estep Wellborn, 65, 155 George Bowers Road, Elizabethton, died Monday, March 8, 1999, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Wellborn was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Ray and Clara Shoun Estep. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard T. Wellborn, and a son, Steven Wayne Wellborn, March 23, 1957. Mrs. Wellborn had lived in Grafton, Ohio for several years before returning to Elizabethton in 1985. She was a retired employee of Pine Ridge Health Care and was a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Randy Peters, Elizabethton; a son and daughter-in-law, Howard Dale and Rebecca Wellborn, Elizabethton; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Sue and Joe Butler and Etta Mae Ingram, all of Elizabethton, and Marion and Allen Brew, Lake, Mich.; a granddaughter, Chelsea Peters; two step-grandchildren, Charlotte and Bobby; and a special niece, Barbara Duke. Dorothy Austin Chambers, formerly of 610 N. Main Street, Elizabethton, died Sunday, March 7, 1999, at Hermitage Health Care Center. Mrs. Chambers was a native of Washington County and the daughter of the late N.R. and Elizabeth Fox Austin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Chambers, three sisters and two brothers. Mrs. Chambers was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Elizabethton, where she was very active in church work, and was also a member of the Elizabethton Women's Club. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Elva Jean Chambers, Elizabethton; a daughter, Jeanne Chambers, Elizabethton; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Robin and Cary Daniels, Kingsport; a grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Chip and Tabitha Chambers, Elizabethton; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Carl Austin, Elizabethton; and a sisters, Mrs. Jim "Elsie" Chambers, Elizabethton. Mrs. Little was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late William M. and Lillie Hyder Clark. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Richard Little in 1967, and Carl Little in 1988. Mrs. Little was a member of the Valley Forge United Methodist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Charlsie Little, Elizabethton, and Phyllis Little, Johnson City; five sons, Robert C. Little, Glenn Little, Ronnie Little and Kenneth Little, all of Elizabethton, and John E. Little, Hampton; two sisters, Mrs. June Vandeventer and Mrs. Ossie Heaton, both of Elizabethton; and two brothers, James M. Clark, Elizabethton, and Mack Clark, Bluff City. John C. Regenold

John Charles Regenold, 81, 514 Allen Avenue, Elizabethton, died Tuesday, March 2, 1999, at the James H. Quillen V.A. Medical Center Hospital, Mountain Home, following an extended illness. Mr. Regenold was a native of Aurora, Ill., and a son of the late Dorwin L. and Clara Wagner Regenold. Mr. Regenold graduated from Drury College, Springfield, Mo., in 1950 as a Medical Technologist. He was employed by Burge Hospital, Springfield, Mo., from 1950 until 1955, and was employed at Blessing Hospital, Quincy, Ill., from 1955 until 1957. He was the Chief Technologist at the University of Tennessee Hospital, Knoxville, from 1957 to 1959. Mr. Regenold came to Carter County Memorial Hospital where he set up the Laboratory. He was Lab Supervisor from 1959 until 1984. He was the First Person to receive the "Frist Award" from Carter County Memorial Hospital in 1979 as the Outstanding Employee of the Year. He was an Army Veteran of World War II and received the Purple Heart after being wounded in Action. He was a former member of the American Legion and a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church of Elizabethton. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Weaver Regenold; a daughter, Linda Regenold, Knoxville; three sons, Robert Regenold and James Regenold, both of Elizabethton, and David Regenold, Tempe, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Nathaniel, Jonathan, Rey and Nicky Regenold; and one aunt, Mrs. Elva Moran, Riverside, Calif. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
REGENOLD -- Funeral services for John Charles Regenold, 81, 514 Allen Avenue, Elizabethton, who died Tuesday, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the National Cemetery, Mountain Home, with Chaplain Carlton Fuller officiating.
