JOAN HORNE CEDARTOWN, GA - Joan Marie Langston Horne, age 47, Cedartown, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at her residence following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Floyd County May 14, 1955. Prior to becoming disabled she was employed with the Floyd County Board of Education as a teacher at Pepperell Middle School for several years. She attended the In Focus Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Langston.
She is survived by her husband, George Stephen "Steve" Horne, to whom she was married on June 25, 1988; two daughters, Sarah Doolin and Emma Horne, both of Cedartown; parents, James and Doris Smith Langston, Cedartown; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Coyle officiating. Interment followed in the family lot in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers were Tommy Shiflett, John Davis, Allen Horne, Todd Wheeler, Phil Williams, and Frank Pinson. Honorary pallbearers were Bob Milam, Jack Smith, and James Hammond Smith.
Arrangements were under direction of Henderson and Sons Funeral Home.
Henry R. Currin

ROGERSVILLE - Henry Randolph (Randy) Currin, age 77, Rogersville, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at Ridgecrest Manor, Duffield, VA, following an extended illness.
He was born in Durham, NC, Feb. 9, 1925. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps in World War II, and then attended the University of NC at Chapel Hill. He was the owner and operator of the Growers and Planters Tobacco Warehouses in Rogersville from 1977 to 1998. Previously he owned and operated warehouses in North and South Carolina. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Rogersville, and prior to that, Yates Baptist Church, Durham.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lelia Anne Currin; and a brother, John Clay Currin Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lillian Willingham Currin, Rogersville; two children, Carol Currin Stanley and Henry Randolph Currin Jr.; three grandchildren, Julie and Scott Stanley and David Currin, all of North Carolina.
Calling hours will be 5:30 - 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville. Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Robert Riley officiating. A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, at Maplewood Cemetery, Annex B, Durham, NC, with Dr. Kenneth Dalton officiating.

James W. Long

ROGERSVILLE - James W. Billy Henry Long, age 66, Rogersville, died Friday, June 13, 2003, at the J.H. Quillen VA Medical Center.
He was of the Baptist faith and was an Air Force veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Owen and Bessie Long; and a brother, Curtis Long.
He is survived by a son and daughter, James and Janice; two brothers, Kenneth Long and wife Kathleen, Rogersville, Charles F. Long, Whitesburg; three sisters, Mildred Dempsey, Jackson, MI, Mary Frizzell and husband Tom, Horton, MI, Ruth Harkleroad and husband Wayne, Bulls Gap; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 15, 2003, at Colboch-Price Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bobby Bentley officiating. MIlitary graveside honors were held by Hawkins County Color Guard Monday, June 16, 2003, at Courtney Cemetery.
Wayne Ward

GREENEVILLE Wayne Ward, age 54, Greeneville, died Friday, June 13, 2003, at Takoma Adventist Hospital.
He was a truck driver by profession, driving for U.S. Express. He was a life-time member of VFW Post 1990, and was a Vietnam veteran.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Ward; mother and step-father, Marie and Edgar Dyke; four brothers, James Ward, Earl Ward Jr., Richard Ward and Hal Ward.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Ward; daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Chris Collins, Rogersville; son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Beckie Ward, Mosheim; two step-daughters, Rebecca and Crystal Austin, Greeneville; four grandchildren and two step-grandchildren, Ambria Collins, Ashley, Miranda and Josh Ward, Kayla and Emma Austin; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Wanda and Frankie Rickett, Mosheim, Brenda and Jerry Foshie, Midway, Carolyn and Steve Carpenter, Bean Station, Debbie and Randy Welch, Kathy and Tony Wilder, all of Morristown; two sisters-in-law, Carol Ward, Bean Station, and Gail Ward Farley, Mosheim; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at the Mosheim Chapel of Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home wth Rev. Richard Long officiating.
Clara L. Livesay

RUSSELLVILLE - Clara L. Livesay, age 87, Russellville, died Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at Life Care Center of Morristown.
She was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; four sisters; a half-sister; and two half-brothers.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Silas Livesay; children, Mavis Norrod, Eugene Livesay and wife Francis, Judy Wisecarver and husband James; grandchildren, Ronald Norrod, Larae Bush and husband Bruce Ricky Livesay and wife Ivy, Fatemia Simerly, Heather Livesay and husband Jackie, Jon Wilder and wife Tonya; step-grandchildren, Jana Range, Russell and Jason Cogdill; great-grandchildren, Emily, Joshua and Jessica Livesay, Amy and Joseph Brown; a sister, Lena Ruth Wright; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2003, at Mayes Mortuary. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m with Rev. G.F. Bell officiating. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday in Hamblen Memory Gardens.

ROGERSVILLE - Ray M. McLain, age 74, Rogersville, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at Wellmont Hawkins County Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
He was employed with the Hawkins County School System for many years and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Myrtle Richards McLain; beloved grandson, Ronnie Joseph Lamons; sister, Effie Triplett; brothers Ralph McLain and Ivan McLain.
He is survived by a daughter, Kathy Lamons and husband David, Rogersville; special friend and companion whom he loved very much, Irene Wallace, Rogersville; two grandsons, Greg Lamons and wife Ellen, Church Hill, Mack Lamons, Rogersville; a sister, Beatrice Triplett, Rogersville; nine step-daughters, Mary Keasling, Martha Waye, Anita Hunter, Joyce Williams, Debbie Wallace, Naomi Hunter, Rebecca Russell, Terri Morgan and Patricia Richards; a step-son, Andrew Wallace; many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 17, 2003, in the Broome Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tony Justice officiating. Graveside services were held Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
Beverly Churchwell

KINGSPORT - Beverly Ann Housewright Churchwell, age 62, Kingsport, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at Indian Path Medical Center following a brief illness.
She had resided in Hawkins County most of her life and lived in Kingsport for the past 16 years. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Marie Churchwell; granddaughter, Stacy Deanna Churchwell; parents, J.N. Housewright and Mabel Mayo Housewright; brother and sister-in-law, Gale and Polly Housewright.
She is survived by a daughter, Robin Jackson and husband Darrell; sons, Curtis Churchwell and girl friend Anita Floyd, Kip Churchwell and wife Cindy, Pat Churchwell and wife Jackie; grandchildren, Hank Winegar, Nikki Harris, Jessica, Crystal, Cody,Tina, Gina and Gracie Churchwell; an expected grandchild; sister, Charlotte Mallory; brothers, Hobert and Shirley Housewright, Lynn and Faye Housewright, Hayden and Annie Housewright, Jimmy K. and Ruth Ann Housewright; several nieces and nephews; and a dear friend, Sue Dykes.

WHITESBURG Betty Sizemore, age 70, Whitesburg, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at her residence following an extended illness.
She was of the Baptist faith and was retired from Citizens Union Bank of Rogersville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Ana Lee Richards; husband, Guy Sizemore; and sister, Juanita Lamb.
She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Starnes of the home, and Vicki Manis and husband Billy, Whitesburg; four grandchildren, Nichole, Whitney, Jason and Misty; two sisters, Mary Ann Richards, Fall Branch, and Pauline Thomas, Greeneville; a brother, Bill G. Richards, Fall Branch; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at Colboch-Price Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randall Burton officiating. Interment followed in the Courtney Cemetery.
Frank E. Reeves

ROGERSVILLE - Frank Earnest Reeves, age 80, Rogersville, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at VA Hospital, Johnson City. He served in the U.S. Army for four years and served during World War II in the European Theater. He received the American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal AR 600-68, World War II Victory Medal, European-African-Eastern Service Medal with two Bronze Stars.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mae Reeves; son, Roger Reeves; brothers, George Reeves, John Reeves, Luther Reeves, Claude Reeves; sister, Mable Reeves; Ruby Reeves, mother of his children.
He is survived by his wife, Lorene West Reeves of the home; daughters, Gloria and husband Rocky Ramey, Brenda and husband Eckle Jenkins, all of Kingsport; Tracey Reeves, Knoxville, Scotie Reeves and wife Carolyn, Kingsport; Greta and husband Bob Cantrell, Bluff City; two step-children, Pamela and husband Floyd Collins, Sandra Smith, all of Rogersville; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Allie Price, Rogersville, Flora and husband E.D. Whitman, Lexington, SC; best friend, Buster Davenport, Rogersville.
Military graveside services by Hawkins County Color Guard were held Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at East Lawn Memorial Park, Kingsport.

Hassie S. Simmons

KINGSPORT - Hassie Sturgill Simmons, age 97, Kingsport, died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at Indian Path Medical Center.
She was born June 30, 1905, in Wise County, VA. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Church Hill, and was active in United Methodist Church Women and youth in Exeter, Derby, VA, and Church Hill. She retired from Holston Valley Hospital as an LPN.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, William Hobart Simmons; brothers, Bill Sturgill, George Sturgill, Hubert Sturgill, Ray Sturgill and Hobert Sturgill; sisters, Lizzie Wise and Ruby Scarbough; and a grandson, William Kelley Powers Jr.
She is survived by a daughter, Frances and husband Bill Powers, Mt. Carmel; son, Bill and wife Kathleen Simmons, Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Pam and husband Ben Mays, Cris and wife Anna Simmons, Lynne and husband Bill Branscom, Penny Powers, Paula Keith, Duane Simmons, Patti and husband Michael Shanks; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Ralph K. Sturgill, Huntsville, AL, and Arthur E. Sturgill, Athens, GA.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at First United Methodist Church, Church Hill, with Pastor Ron Ramsey officiating. Graveside services were held Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at Oak Hill Cemetery.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the U.S. Air Force for 30 years. He was a former employee of IPC&L.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lonzo Williams, and a brother, Dwight Williams.
He is survived by his wife, Brigitte Williams of the home; two sons, Michael Williams and wife Gill of New Hampshire, Steve Williams and wife Julie of Texas; two daughters, Sonja Bryan and husband James of South Carolina, and Sandra Lux, Rogersville; mother, Frances Williams, Rogersville; two grandchildren, Amy and Jack Williams of New Hampshire; two sisters, Mary Ramsbey and husband Bill of South Carolina, and Linda Williams of Florida; four brothers, Lonnie Williams and wife Nancy of Florida, Larry Williams, Herschel Williams, both of Rogersville, Kim Williams and wife Phyllis, Thorn Hill; several nieces, nephews and friends.

She was a member of Compromise Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas T.J. Wilder; parents, Ulysses Grant and Tryphena Anderson McMillian; sisters, Elva Brewer, Sylvania (Vania) Ballard and Lona Porter Bigham; brothers, Hillary McMillian, Homer McMillian, Harmon McMillian and Jason McMillian; and daughter-in-law, Cora Sue Wilder.
She is survived by three sons, Ken Wilder and wife Mary, Morristown, Billy Guy Wilder and wife Mary Jean, and Tom Wilder, all of Rogersville; seven grandchildren, Kenny Wilder Jr. and wife Gayle, Patricia Renee (Sissy) Eikenberry and husband Glen, Donna Carr and husband Bill, Connie Gibson and husband Tommy, Amy Cannon and husband Mike, Jason Wilder and wife DeAnna, and T.J. Wilder; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruby McMillian Robinson; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sennett E. and Nova M. Hayward; first husband, Eugene Leonard; and second husband, George Wells.
She is survived by two brothers, Ed Hayward, Columbus, NE, and Ralph Hayward, Phoenix, AZ; special nieces and nephew, Brenda and Jim Wells, Rogersville, Denna Anderson and Sally Laster, Church Hill; several nieces and nephews.

Barnie C. Jones

SNEEDVILLE Barnie C. Jones, age 64, Sneedville, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was a member of Shiloh Methodist Church. He was a retired school bus driver from the Hawkins County Board of Education, and a retired farmer. He was the wagon master for the Shrine Wagon Train.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John L. and Clara Rogers Jones; two sisters, Nadine Pearson and Jean Davis; two brothers, Tommy Jones and Bill Jones.
He is survived by a special nephew and niece with whom he made his home, Danny and Mary Jones, Sneedville; four sisters, Blanch Pearson, Kingsport, Mildred Jenkins, Rogersville, Sue Snodgrass, Lakeland, FL, and Joyce Porter, Sneedville; two brothers, Ben Jones, Sneedville, and Don Jones, Treadway; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at Christian-Sells Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lyle White officiating. Graveside services were held Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at the Jones Cemetery.
Herbert D. Reasor

BIG STONE GAP, VA Herbert D. Reasor, age 75, Big Stone Gap, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at Wellmont-Lonesome Pine Hospital.
He was a native of Lee County and Wise County, VA. He lived in Mt. Carmel for 26 years before moving to Big Stone Gap in 1991. He was a retired middle school teacher with the Hawkins County School System with 26 years service. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, Mt. Carmel, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann Gibson Reasor; and parents, Alexander Cass Reasor and Melissa B. Reasor.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Armstrong Reasor; a daughter, Rebecca Cavin and husband Pat, Piney Flats; a son, Harold R. Reasor and wife Donna, Big Stone Gap; three grandsons, Matt Cavin, Piney Flats, Colby Reasor, Big Stone Gap, and Lucas Cavin, Piney Flats.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at the Holding Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Lester Baker officiating. Entombment services were held Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at the Glencoe Cemetery Mausoleum, Big Stone Gap.

He was a retired welder with Caterpillar Corp., Joliet, IL.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rance Thomas; and a sister, Florence Coleman.
He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly Young Thomas of the home; two daughters, Lisa Thomas, Rogersville, and Amy Boyle and son-in-law Ray, Chicago, IL; a granddaughter, Kayla Thomas, Rogersville; mother, Mary Schelich Creed, Ottawa, IL; mother-in-law, Ruth Young-Bunnell, Bartow, FL; and other family members.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at the Thomas Family Cemetery, Rogersville.
