Mrs. Dorothy Black Christman, 87, of Chapel Hill, died Sunday, July 27. Mrs. Christman was a native of Summit Hill, Pennsylvania and was a retired registered nurse. Mrs. Christman was a daughter of the late James and Dora Kutz Black. She is survived by her husband, Luther Christman, of Chapel Hill; two daughters, Judi Kinney of McFarland, Wisconsin and Lillian Christman, of Virginia; one son, Gary J. Christman, of Chapel Hill, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Visitation with the family will begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29, at Lawrence Funeral Home in Chapel Hill. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 30, at 1 p.m. from the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Woodford officiating. Burial will follow in Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.

Mrs. Lisa Carol Beasley Henderson, 39, of Lynchburg, died Wednesday, July 23, at Harton Regional Medical Center in Tullahoma. She was a native of Cookeville. Mrs. Henderson was a former quality control technician with Createc. She is survived by her husband, Jeffrey Lee Henderson, of Lynchburg; two sons, Timothy Jenson, of Fayetteville and Donald Metcalfe, of Moore County; two daughters, Haley and Jessi Henderson, of Unionville; her mother, Mrs. Susan Nelson, of Tullahoma; two sisters, Mrs. Linda Church, of Tullahoma and Mrs. Kandy Smith, of Normandy and her grandmother, Mrs. Gladys Vaughn, of Tullahoma. Visitation began at 5 p.m. Monday, July 28, at Lawrence Funeral Home in Chapel Hill. Funeral services were Tuesday, July 29, at noon from the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Christopher Hobbs officiating.

Christopher Madeo, 59, of Bell Buckle, died Saturday, July 26, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro. Funeral Mass will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, at St. William Catholic Church in Shelbyville with Father Paul Portland officiating. Burial will follow in Hazel Cemetery in Bell Buckle. A native of Baltimore, Md., Mr. Madeo was the son of Joseph F. Madeo, Jr., of Bell Buckle, who survives, and the late Mildred Ruth Madeo. He moved to Bedford County in 1972. He was in the construction business for several years until he began teaching building trades in Marshall County in 1978. He was a part-time farmer and carpenter and a member of St. William Catholic Church. He is also survived by his wife of 36 years, Nona Freno Madeo; two sons, Christopher R. Madeo and Robert S. Madeo, all of Bell Buckle; three brothers, Joseph F. Madeo, III, of Murfreesboro, Peter D. Madeo, of Boonsboro, Md., and Richard G. Madeo, of Sequim, Wash.; three sisters, Maria Madeo, of Columbia, S.C., Martha Martin, of New Kent, Va. and Margretta Morris, of Stephentown, N.Y. and three grandchildren. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel in Shelbyville, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation of Middle Tennessee, 319 Bethany Lane, Shelbyville, TN 37160.

Mrs. Flora Belle Pyland Nickens, 99, a lifelong resident of the Mt. Lebanon community of Marshall County, died Saturday, July 26, in Columbia after an extended illness. Mrs. Nickens was a homemaker and daughter of the late S.W. and Lela Cleek Pyland. She was the eldest member of the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church. Mrs. Nickens was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas Nickens, in 1990 and by a son, James Buford Nickens. She is survived by a son, J.W. Nickens, also of the Mt. Lebanon community; one grandson, two step-great-grandchildren and three step-great-great-grandchildren. Visitation with the family began at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 27, at Lawrence Funeral Home in Chapel Hill. Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 28, at 10:30 a.m. from the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with bros. Bob McKinney and Steve Tudor officiating. Burial followed in Hopper Cemetery in Marshall County.

Funeral services for Paul Pigg, 79, of Fayetteville, who passed away Sunday, July 27, in the Lincoln Medical Center in Fayetteville, were conducted Tuesday, July 29, at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Gallant Funeral Home, in Fayetteville. The revs. James Warren and Kenneth Hobbs officiated. Burial followed in the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Franklin County. Visitation was Monday, July 28, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Gallant Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Pigg was a native of Madison County, Ala. and son of the late Lee and Rosie Lasater Pigg. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Holiness Church of God. He is survived by four daughters, Linda Roland, Brenda Patterson and Sheila Luttrell, all of Fayetteville and Patricia Fowler, of Lewisburg; four sons, Bobby Pigg, of Fayetteville, Paul Ray Pigg and Jimmy Pigg, both of Lewisburg and Timmy Pigg, of Shelbyville; one sister, Margaret Harmening; one brother, Earl Pigg, both of Fayetteville, 26 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Mrs. Frances Elizabeth Potter, 75, of Lewisburg, died Thursday night, July 24, in Maury Regional Hospital. A native of Marshall County, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Bessie Isley Adams, a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. Mrs. Potter is survived by two daughters, Betty Bradford Neese and Linda Hickman, both of Lewisburg; a son, Michael Potter, of Lewisburg; a step-daughter, Carol Fields, of Muncie, Ind.; a brother, John Willie Adams, of Lewisburg; a half-sister, Gladys Crunk, of Fayetteville; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild and two step-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Sunday, July 27, at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Bills McGaugh Funeral Home by Pastor Stephen McCollum. Burial followed in Lone Oak Cemetery. Pallbearers were Randy Crutcher, Roger Adams, Larry Gouge, Ricky Crutcher, Eddie Roberts and Mark Crutcher. Mrs. Virgie Lee Cross, 58, died Saturday, Nov. 29 at Marshall Medical Center. She was a daughter of Willie B. and Bell Fuqua, of Florence, Ala. She moved to Lewisburg in 1973 and worked at Genesco for 12 years and at Faber Castell. In addition to her parents, she is survived by four children, Melissa Cross, of Madison, Thomas Jr., Renee and April Cross, all of Lewisburg; one brother, Nelson Fuqua, of Lima, Ohio. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Dec. 4 at the St. James Primitive Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service at 1 p.m. J.B. Mayberry and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

James Patrick Jim Finn

Mr. James Patrick Jim Finn, 74, of Petersburg, died Thursday afternoon in Marshall Medical Center. A native of Nanticoke, Pa., he was the son of the late Patrick and Mary Wilson Finn and retired from marketing sales. He was a Fourth Degree Member in Assembly 2439 of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of St. John’s Catholic Church. Mr. Finn is survived by his wife, Martha Gallik Finn, of Petersburg; three sons: James W. Finn, of Greensboro, N.C., Patrick F. Finn, of Mt. Arlington, N.J., and Timothy F. Finn, of North Charleston, S.C.; three step-children: Janet Zwiren, of Succasunna, N.J., Nancy Podkowka, of Lafayette, N.J., and John David Bachmann, of Hopatcong, N.J.; a brother, Arthur F. Finn, of Vienna, Va.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Saturday at 5 p.m. from the chapel of Bills McGaugh Funeral Home by Father Tom Perrin, with the Fourth Degree Knights serving as guards. Mr. Finn’s body was conveyed to the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home in Newton, N.J. for visitation on Monday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Graveside and committal services were conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the St. Ignatius Cemetery in Pringle, P.A. Keith Allen Gill, 46, of Chapel Hill, died Wednesday, Nov. 26 at his home after an extended illness. Mr. Gill was a native of Oak Park, IL, and a son of the late Kenneth Elmer Gill and David and Barbara Aline England Kalish, of Chapel Hill, who survive. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a former employee of Goshen Rubber Co. in Goshen, MI. In addition to his mother and step-father, he is survived by two daughters, Tonya Gill, of Sturgis, MI, and Tasha Gill, of Maine; five sisters, Victoria Gill, of Chapel Hill, Tammy Gill, of Chicago, Debbie Clutter, of Sturgis, MI, Dawn Kalish, of Murfreesboro, and Kimberly Kalish, of Naperville, IL; a brother, Kenneth Gill, of Colon, MI, and seven grandchildren. Visitation with the family was at 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1 at Lawrence Funeral Home. Graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2 at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery with Pastor Keith Tucker officiating. Mrs. Dorothy Sue Alley Groomes

Mrs. Dorothy Sue Alley Groomes, 84, of Nashville died Thursday, Nov. 27 in Nashville after an extended illness. Mrs. Groomes was a native of Williamson County and was a homemaker. She was a member of West End Church of Christ in Nashville where she was a Sunday School teacher for 38 years. Mrs. Groomes was a daughter of the late James Beech and Virginia Farmer Alley and was married for 46 years to the late Reid Bolling Groomes, who died in 1988. She is survived by two daughters, Martha Lynn Publow, of Nashville, and Reida Sue Gambill, of Franklin; one son, John C. Groomes, of Brentwood, and seven grandchildren. Visitation with the family was Friday, Nov. 28 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at West End Church of Christ in Nashville. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Nov. 29 at 1 p.m. at West End Church of Christ with Jim Bill McInteer officiating. The family received friends from 11:30 a.m. until the funeral hour on Saturday. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers were Britt Groomes, Andrew Publow, J. Gambill, Heath Grisso, Abner Alley, Roy Alley and Tom Groomes. Honorary pallbearers were Elders and Deacons of West End Church of Christ, Seth Cooper and William Ewers. Mrs. Thelma Hopkins, 93, of Cornersville, died Friday, Nov. 28 in Sumner Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Hopkins was a native of Marshall County and daughter of the late Carl and Lena Mae Young Burgess. She was a member of the Church of Christ and retired from Leonard's Hospital. Preceded in death by her husband, Allen Hopkins, and son, Billy Hopkins, she is survived by one son, Bobby (Gretna) Hopkins, of Westmoreland, and daughter-in-law, Glenda Hopkins, of the Robertson Fork Community, three grandsons, five great grandchildren, two step-grandsons, and three step-great grandchildren, all of Watertown. Funeral services were conducted by Don Hudson Sunday, Nov. 30, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Cornersville Funeral Home with burial in Mars Hill Cemetery. The family was at Cornersville Funeral Home Saturday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Sunday until the funeral hour for visitation. Mrs. Irene A. Kiessling, 74, of Defiance, Ohio, died Sunday, Nov. 30 at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, IN. She was a native of Newport, MI and a daughter of the late Andrew Black and Mary Major Black. She was a member of the Assembly of God and retired after 30 years of service to the Dinner Bell. She is preceded in death by a son, six brothers and five sisters. She is survived by her husband, Orville Kiessling, of Defiance, Ohio; two daughters, Nancy Magaraci, of Lewisburg, and Sally Zeedyk, of Acworth, GA; one son, Tom Kiessling, of Defiance, Ohio; one sister, Mary Vajen, of Carlton, MI; two brothers, Ernie Black and Rudy Black, both of Defiance, Ohio; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Dec. 5 at 11 a.m. at Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home in Defiance, Ohio with Rev. Roger Culbertson and Rev. Larry Grow officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday, Dec. 3 from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Thursday, Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. at Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home. He was a native of Marshall County and a son of the late Roy Thomas Layne and Mollie Renegar Layne, of Delina, who survive. He was a member of Medium Methodist Church and retired from Walker Die Casting. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Barbara Layne, of Petersburg; two daughters, Tammy (Tim) Hill, of Fayetteville, and Stephanie (Rickey) Weaver, of Lewisburg; one brother, Toddy Layne, of Fayetteville; two sisters, Elease Brown, of Greenville, Ala., and Beverly Lowe, of Lewisburg; two grandchildren, Richie L. Weaver and Merdith A. Weaver, both of Lewisburg, and one great grandchild, Evan Brooks Weaver, of Lewisburg. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30 at the Fayetteville Chapel of the McCauley Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Howard and Rev. James Trivett officiating. Burial followed in Center Point Cemetery. Ms. Moore died Friday, Nov. 28 at Lincoln Skilled Care Center. A native of Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Albert B. and Elma George Moore. She was retired from Serbin and a member of Washington Street Church of Christ. One brother, Wilson Moore, of Petersburg, one sister, Sophia Dunnavant, of Pulaski, one nephew and four nieces survive her. A sister, Adelle Sullivan, preceded her in death. Mr. Rainey was a native of Marshall County and a son of the late Alfred Taylor Rainey and Della Mae Henson Rainey. He was a member of the Baptist Church and retired from General Electric Corporation with 25 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Hazel Rainey, of Lewisburg; four sons, Ken Rainey, of Arrington, Tim Taylor, of Shelbyville, Danny Taylor and Randy Taylor, both of Petersburg; three sisters, Fay Roberts, of Cornersville, Nadine Newcomb, of Lewisburg, and Frances Higdon, of Evansville; a brother, Thomas (Buddy) Smith, of Jefferson City, Mo., 16 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Visitation with the family was at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 27 at Lawrence Funeral Home. Mrs. Jewell (Granny) Russell, 93, of Lewisburg, died Wednesday, Nov. 26 at her home. Mrs. Russell was a native of Carthage and daughter of the late Charles and Alma Cothern. She was co-owner and operator of the former Hi-Hat Restaurant for 20 years and the catering service at Heil-Quaker Corporation for 20 years. Mrs. Russell was a member of East Commerce Baptist Church. Preceded in death by her husband, P.B. Russell, she is survived by one son, James Russell, of Lewisburg, three grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by James Hickey Friday, Nov. 28 at 10 a.m. from the chapel of London Funeral Home with burial in Lone Oak Cemetery. The family was at London Funeral Home Thursday from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Friday until the funeral hour for visitation. Pallbearers were Richard Cothern, Jack Adams, Steve McPherson, David Allen, Tom Wright, Bryan Russell Storey, Blake Everett and Trey Russell.
